This game and FFVII were my introduction to the PS1. Well that and Metal Gear Solid. Ahhh, what a time to evolve to the next generation in gaming. I miss you 1998.
Maybe it's because I have grown up, but, I feel like Squares rpgs in PS1 are much more carefully crafted than their current rpgs. I did go back and replay a bit and indeed I still feel some of those old time games are more attractive for some reasons (maybe just because emotional attachment)
Aya was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 20, 1972. She is of mixed ethnicity; her father whose name is unrevealed is a journalist, is Caucasian while her mother who is known as Mariko was Japanese. This gives her a unique appearance as she boasts many Asian facial features, such as the shape of her face and eyes, while possessing blue eyes and fair blonde hair
That "Dog/Rat" thing still looks creepy to me. But I think that's partially due to my enjoying older graphics still. a lot of people say PS1 looks ugly nowadays, especially when it's trying to be realistic rather than cartoony and stylized. But personally, I still like how the PS1 looks. I've always enjoyed older games and graphics more than newer stuff. I think game companies try too hard on graphics nowadays. I'd rather than game be made fun first, and the graphics be a secondary thing. The graphics don't HAVE to be perfect for the game to be enjoyable. Notice how a lot of N64 and PS1 games are still really fun despite the obvious downgrade in graphics compared to current stuff? I think game companies miss that idea. Also, to be fair about the character moving slowly. A lot of games with fixed camera angles had slow characters. The Final Fantasy PS1 games had fairly slow moving characters. As did Resident Evil. They may have been faster than this game, but they're still slow when you think about it.
@@90sdude73 Yes ps1 is my fav console as well and like when the graphics look pixilated and blocky and some of my fav games are resident evil 2,3,dino cris 2, silent hill, duke nukem time to kill, ect
I domt agree with his criticism of the cut scenes, the onw he showed us looked alright. Mind you, its been 20 years! Amazi g game, back then it scared mw shitless. Anyone remember the instance the lighta went out? Terrifying! Sequels sucked, however, give us a remake.
+MrJeffy45 yep, I capitalized on that. I'm waaay late to the party, even as a 26 year old, but I am sure looking forward to playing this for the first time! :D
@zhenghf dunno. just rip it from the episode "Gary Takes a Bath". They have it isolated from any other sound in the episode so it should come out nice and clear.
I bought this game a couple months back, I'm about 70% done its really enjoyable and aged fairly well imo. I should get back to it sometime and finish it though, then get PE2 which I heard was a bit better.
Got this on PSN with the $10 I got from Sony as a thank you for being a loyal customer. I was looking for something completely different from anything I'd ever played before, and got this based on a friend's recommendation. After seeing this review, I'm sure I made the right choice =D
This game is great, absolutely. I had a lot of fun with it. However, for me, it always felt like a compromised half-step between Resident Evil and Vagrant Story, with the appropriate systems and presentation elements from BOTH games dumbed down. Like it couldn't make up its mind if it wanted to be an RPG or a survival horror game, and so it chose to excel in neither of those arenas. PE2 has always been the superior game to me.
when I first saw that rat.. I was extremely impressed with the graphics.. it was on a demo trailer... and the music reminded me of sega's piano happy video game scoring style lol..
Me either. That's actually very interesting. I wonder if the book focused on another main character, seeing as Aya is obviously new to the whole mitochondria uprising in the first game.
What I remember best after all these years about this game was playing a character that spent the entire time fighting, and running from, monsters in stiletto heels (the character- not the monsters). Tak- tak-tak-tak-tak... it wasn't so much annoying as it was absurdly amusing!
The first Parasite Eve was really good for a game based off a book. The second was okay. The third on PSP was innovative and had a great story, but there's flaws
@250cosmic - Just make a U.S. PSN account, and download it. The physical copy won't be PAL. You'll need a U.S. Playstation, and a proper power source. Just download it. only 5.99 usd
Hopefully they played the whole thing, but only wanted to show the first ten minutes so they wouldn't spoil anything for the people who haven't played the game.
I remember there being a trailer for this game on the demo disc that came with my PlayStation. It scared the fucking shit out of me. I'd like to try this game out now that I'm an adult though.
Yeah, but that's the only attack that you can't avoid so as long as you use your PE wisely and have a revive then it's really not that bad. The Chrysler Building in the EX mode however is fucking excruciating.
WTH is even SLIGHTLY AMUSING about that FMV? They don't make rat traps that big! What would happen to the human race if even ONE of those things were real? Just looking at it scares the shit out of me.
Warning. This video is full of spoilers. If youve come here never having played this game and wanted a review for more info, ol duche bag here proceeds to spoiler as many cutscenes as possible.
This was the first RPG I ever bought, and kinda got me off the fence about 'em. I recently downloaded this on PSN and played it again. It's still just as awesome as I'd remembered. That Chrysler Building's a bitch though...
Jeez, you'd think that a gamer would actually learn how to pronounce Japanese names correctly (just by exposure to them). I cringed every time this guy pronounced Aya's name wrong.
The cut scenes are very impressive for a PS1 game. The best I've ever seen.
....dude.
that rat transformation is just as fucked up as it was back in the day xD
ikr it has aged well reminds me of resident evil outbreaks opening with rats eating the guy
Funny? That was the first time I've ever seen that dog/rat sequence and that shit was crazy and impressive for its time!
***** i see silent hill HELLO
You cant expect her to run any faster when wearing heels.
Just FYI she does change into jeans, T-shirt, jacket, and sneakers later.
Idk what your talking about that rat cut scene looked nasty back in the day when I played it and still looks pretty gross to me lol

This game still holds up today. Beautifully crafted

Too true, I still think games like this, Final Fantasy VII, and Silent Hill look beautiful.
Game companies are too scared to venture into new ideas and unfortunately any downgrade in graphics would cause backlash with the game selling.
TXF I completely agree! The ps1 is still my fav console. I love the graphics as well. Simple with a charm of the 90s

@@Chrisjb1983 LOL Sure...
One of those games where the music takes you back to when you first played it.
lol why is all the footage from the very beginning of the game?
It's a 1.20 this week on psn!
+MrJeffy45 yep, I capitalized on that. I'm waaay late to the party, even as a 26 year old, but I am sure looking forward to playing this for the first time! :D
I really miss the old Square. Always top quality.
This game is HIGH on my retro-game wishlist, which is quite long after I started watching Classic Game Room and seeing games even I didn't know about.
@250cosmic Parasite Eve 1 has been on PSN for some months now.
@zhenghf dunno. just rip it from the episode "Gary Takes a Bath". They have it isolated from any other sound in the episode so it should come out nice and clear.
@Sirhc7000 It's also Candy Kong's laugh in Donkey Kong 64.

Played the 3rd Birthday and loved it. I will play this soon.
If it's a sequel to a novel and film, is it a direct sequel? Or are there different stories for both?
Replying just because I want to know the answer. :P

finally someone from the cgr empire reviewed this its my most favorite game
Wasn't that last laugh the same laugh that they used in Spongebob when he was infusing Gary's mind with subliminal messages? lol
Man Undertow before Derek was very blah
I used to have this game. I didn't sell it, it was lost in a move along with Brave Fencer Musashi. :(
played all 3 this year, they were great, First ibe had a deep story with symbolism and subtext

i could never kill the 3 headed dog. but then again, i played this when i was 7 years old...
This was my first RPG. 8th grade
This brings me back memories. Especially running away from that mutated baby but only to get jumped on and dying countless of times...
I'm pretty sure this game is on the PSN now....might try it.

And what's the difference between Classic Game Room and CGRundertow
That's true. The plot does kick major butt!
I like this game but I think the sequel is a lot better.
Blanca Valdez
I'm talking about PE2
+Haruna Valentine I know....
Never finished that game:(
This was my first RPG game I ever played and I payed it on the PS1. I recommend playing it.
I remember this game when I was a kid, memories!

This game looks like a chore. I've only play the 2nd one and kinda liked it because it was a little more Resident Evil like.
how long does it take to beat Parasite Eve?
not avaliable in europe :(
The ratdog thing still looks pretty creepy. o.o
If there's one thing I learned from this game it's to never lend great games to bad friends. Even if said friend is a cute blonde...
Hopefully they played the whole thing, but only wanted to show the first ten minutes so they wouldn't spoil anything for the people who haven't played the game.
i never played pe but i am planing to play it
Still my all time favorite game.
@250cosmic that's weird, I bought it without importing or anything, just took a look at the shelf, pointed, gave money to the guy and that was it XD.
This was One of my favourite games.
I remember there being a trailer for this game on the demo disc that came with my PlayStation. It scared the fucking shit out of me. I'd like to try this game out now that I'm an adult though.

Probably my favorite PS1 game. Sequel wasn't half bad either.
I dont care what the reviewer said about that rat cutscene, that freaked me the fuck out
true does seem like it, either way its awesome and one of the best i would say square has done
@RyudointheWay está en psp
So basically if Resident Evil and Final Fantasy had a baby, it would be this game.
WTH is even SLIGHTLY AMUSING about that FMV? They don't make rat traps that big! What would happen to the human race if even ONE of those things were real?
Just looking at it scares the shit out of me.
i think you should read the book to fully understand and respect the story of this game
this kinda looks like the battle mechanics of transistor.
This is one of my favorite games ever!
under 15 hours for the main story.
For what it's worth, thanks for posting this.
why RUclips keeps unsubscribing me from your channel!?
Best RPGs game I ever past back in the day
one of the best games of all times
Can you say "mitochondria"?
Warning. This video is full of spoilers.

@catnipfever22 - It's available on PSN for only $5.99!! I freakin' LOVE this game.

@tsuruchitetsuo Agreed!
Aya is an american name. one of my friends is named Aya and she is white.
A non-turn based RPG, great, maybe you will spam this or something, what ever, but face it, battles based on turns become boring.
Did you only play the first 10min for this review??? thats all the video footage your showing lol
Seems like a fun game, I guess.
@ChimairaGod DAMN RIGHT
seems pretty dark, like something atlus would of made
one week of hell...
@250cosmic well, that explains a lot of things XD.
Absolutely this game is awesome.
Yeah, Aya's running speed was definitely a bother.😔😒
Different reviewers mainly
:o wow.. never knew it started out as a book then movie..
set up a US psn account and buy it,that's what i did,buy some US psn points online and then dl...
That rat still grosses me out. The eye!
Except for final fantasy VIII fuck that game.
I doubt you could even muster enough intelligence to make a review yourself. So no this guy doesn't fail you do.
"build" sounds like "bewld".
i want this
Great
Jeez, you'd think that a gamer would actually learn how to pronounce Japanese names correctly (just by exposure to them). I cringed every time this guy pronounced Aya's name wrong.
cool game
