    I know it's such an old feed and you don't have this anymore. It's nearly exactly what I'll be using for my camper build. I have a doublecab tacoma 2002. Super chill. Gonna make mine extend 6 foot and follow your height. The amount above cab height and no over the cab cubby is very apealling. So I can use a roof basket and roof rack on canopy lined up for lumber, ladders, kayaks , decks etc. Thx for your work and freely sharing. will also be milling my own cedar from trees we trees we fell.. only thing I'll be adding is jackstands so camper can be used independently of truck

    I really like how you framed it so that the T&G siding was inset, and I think the porthole style windows look great. Thank you so much for switching up the audio. I had previously had to mute it after a while, as it was a little distracting. I'm researching DIY campers and shells, since I'm having trouble finding a good used one that would be a true fit for my '89 pickup. I like your series because it shows all the steps, and some of the detail work that goes into it, which a lot of folks don't bother filming.

    You have done a excellent job building your camper. It gives you so much more room when you just make the shell vs. a whole slide conventional style truck camper. You can still have access to the entire floor of the truck bed to haul things. The only issue I've run into with doing mine this way is the floor will freeze if you get water on it in freezing temperatures(cheap Chinese diesel heater has helped mine from doing this). Of coarse Im not usually camping in lower than 32 degrees but when I do Ive stayed quite cozy even with a heater. Can't wait to see how you outfit the interior! If I were you I'd make a temporary setup and camp out of it several times(tweaking while you go). That way you'll find out what works and what doesn't before you open the time making it nice and permanent. Hope all is well and you keep clear of the craziness going on in the world. I'm hoping that it calms down soon so we both can use our campers :).

    • @rohdesoda1152
      @rohdesoda1152  4 года назад

      Agreed on all accounts. My plan for the interior is.. semi-permanent. But I plan on spending significant time in it so comfort is a must. I very well may throw some insulation on part of the floor. Same to you my friend, it’s a wild world!

      RohdeSoda Thank you. Actually I am. It’s going to be tongue and groove planks and I’m going to stain and polyurethane them similar to what endgame did on his channel. You may want to check it out.

    • @rohdesoda1152
      @rohdesoda1152  4 года назад

      Gotcha. My experience w polyurethane has been that it is never 100% waterproof, but hes prob a better resource than me on that. My issues are due to the fact that my siding has a structural component to it and it is epoxied to the frame. I anticipated the cracks, but its something to be dealt w nonetheless. Mine are also just simple lap joints, your T and G will have more bonding surface.

    • @Urbanight
      @Urbanight 4 года назад

      RohdeSoda This will be my first experience with polyurethane so we’ll see what happens. Have you thought about putting in some kind of reinforcement? Maybe two by threes?

    • @rohdesoda1152
      @rohdesoda1152  4 года назад

      The camper is plenty strong, I can shake the truck from it and jump on top. Its just a matter of letting the siding cycle and crack as it wishes, then Ill go back and fill those areas and we should be good to go. If any other issues pop up down the road my insulation will be removable and I can still tend to it. Personally, I would never use construction lumber in a camper. I realize not many people take the route I have, but I want to keep it light and I have a lot of trust in the structure and epoxy bonds.

    Its a work of art, a masterpiece,if you will. What I found fascinating is you adding this groove or that lip without explanation. Had to watch to the end to see the logic of each step. I particularly like the lip around the cedar panels and the homemade portals. Is that Lexan or some other product. That fairing process is something I've heard but never knew what it is. I liked what you did, but I'm concerned about the wind drag at the front over the cab. Can you feel the wind as you drive?

    • @rohdesoda1152
      @rohdesoda1152  2 года назад

      It’s very minor, there’s an additional fairing on the cab now too. Averages 18+ mpg.

      Much appreciated. I did indeed learn most of my skills from boatbuilding. I plan to start a separate channel for the refit of my Cape George 36 in the future! Much appreciated!

      I built it so I could sit upright inside, then have another video where I made an extended door so I can lay flat, I’m 6’4. Thanks for watching!

    Very nice. I don’t understand what the composite material is.

    • @rohdesoda1152

      Basically, everything that got painted is built out of plywood. So plywood alone,, even w good prep and paint, wont hold up to the elements for very long. By skinning it all w fiberglass, youre essentially giving it a plastic shell. Now the plywood is just a structural component and will stay dry and last for decades. Does that clear it up?
