A wonderful hymn sung many times in Protestant services when I was growing up in the American south, especially in evening services, which often included sets of 3-4 hymns to open those services. Evening services disappeared years ago in most Protestant churches, and with them the perpetuation of appreciation for so many deeply meaningful hymns, like this one, which are now rarely sung at morning services. Marjolein's singing brought back fond memories of singers and instrumentalists, who helped shape my faith as much or more than pastors and Sunday school teachers. Thank you, Marjolein and Gert.
Thank you Marjolein and Gert. I didn't know this beautiful hymn before. I love the simplicity of the words and melody so it just points to Jesus. Your lovely pure voice with Gert's gentle accompaniment make it one to listen to again and again. God bless you all.
Another 19th century gem! Verses by Annie Hawks, chorus and tune by Robert Lowry, and I remember singing this at Lent services in the Church of My (long ago) Youth...
I am not sure when I first heard this hymn but I loved it from the first time, really beautiful song both musically and the lyrics. You really sing a beautiful version of this song, your voice is really very pure and suits this song.
