The book was completely different than this movie. The book was literary - it's message was that we all have a wild animal in us that will surface under the right conditions. The movie eliminated most of the violence Buck experienced, including his time as a fighting dog, and violence in the sled team, which brought out Buck's wild nature. The movie had more of a feel good, embracing your true self message. I guess that the director thought that audiences wouldn't want to see the dog fighting scenes, which would have been hard to film ethically...
sorry for the late reply. But yeah I'd love a movie that was true to the book in all it's brutality. I wanted to feel the harsh uncomfortableness and while I loved this movie, it made it somehow very different and kind of PG rated. I think the closer one was an anime movie I think I remember seeing, still different but had some more true to the book parts.
the book version is so much intense, it showed battle for survival and dominance while here we have Spitz as a villain, I mean yes Spitz was a piece of shit of a dog in a book as well but his motive to be like that was to keep sled dogs in order, while Buck waited a moment to take away the leadership from him. You can actually feel the horror that comes to Spitz when starts to lose. While here we have classing good vs evil sort of regular fight, and Buck is like a dog that never even learned anything like a law of club and fang, if he could beat him so he could have beat him right after Curly's death or even better, save Curly. I dont like when movies oversimplify a character.

At 1st Buck was trying to throw Spitz off and deescalate the situation but once he realized Spitz was not going to stop that is when he realized that being passive was not an option.
It's not that dark tbh. I hate that it watered down the tone of the book for children, the original book is so much more raw, intense, and real. The book doesn't hold back the true brutality and struggle of being a dog having to survive in the wild and among a pack of sled dogs. Buck went through various counts of abuse, led by his own instincts to save himself and understand the law of nature and order. He never was a coward, he wasn't some sweet, good natured pup all the time. He did love some of his humans, but when it came to other dogs, especially Spitz, he didn't play around. He WANTED to steal leadership from him early on. It wasn't something thrown upon him in an act of bravey like this clip shows. Buck wanted to overthrow Spitz and spill his blood for a while, he waited for the opportunity, and he destroyed him in the book because he learned what it takes to be an alpha dog, a wolf. The movie also cuts out multiple other aspects that hardened Buck's nature and sculpted his knowledge and body for the wilderness, including the book's iconic scene where Buck literally pulls over a thousand pounds worth of supplies all by himself to make his owner proud and prove his strength. This movie shouldn't have been for kids. The book still doesn't have a proper adaptation to it, and it needs it badly. It's such a good, moral coded story that really emphasizes the laws of nature and the struggle of a dog who was kidnapped from him happy home and thrown into the cruelty of man. I'm tired of good stories being turned into children's media :/
Forget Hal, Spitz is the real villain of the movie. I’m glad Buck taught him a lesson. Also I’m surprised that the owner never noticed Spitz’s evil behavior.
How is this more expressive than the live action lion king??🙃🙃🙃like- the dogs don't even talk in this movie but i still could tell how they feel just from looking at their face '-'
Bro same it was sad but yet he did the right thing even though you shouldn't hurt one another but he was just defending the others a true king and pack leader
The beauty of this scene is that Buck could destroy Spitz from the get go, but he choose to be bullied out of sympathy. Buck understood Spitz was the leader of the pack and never meant to interfere, but the pack instinctively started following Buck, because he was a much better leader. Spitz became jalous and decided to intimidate, killing the rabbit, beating up and humiliating buck and he would probably have killed the old dog who stood up to, if Buck would have stayed down. Even after he delt with Spitz, buck showed mercy.. and gave him the chance to flee. That's how a leader is supposed to be. Buck earned respect by helping, not dominating.
I mean, from what I remember, its either Spitz dies or Buck dies. Whoever lost was going be eaten by wild dogs, so Buck crippled Spitz so he could live
The body language of Spitz is completely wrong. Spitz is supposed to be dominant and strong, yet the body language is that of a scared dog trying to defend itself from a bully.
Leadership doesnt mean you want others to respect you, you want them to get food for you or for example want to clean behind you. True Leadership is when you show respect to others, give THEM smth good for future or lead them to good thing, but what true leader must have is compasion, good behaviour, knowlege but most important love and big hearth as mountain
I like that you can understand what the dogs are "saying" without needing them to actually speak. Their facial expressions say it all. Pretty good work, not like Disney did with 'The lion king' remake.
@@1luvfor.moon_ since he is a husky that’s made for this weather don’t think that’s what killed him, he could have probably ended up in the middle of nowhere after being lost in the storm and died from food and water idk.
In the book Spitz is all white and Buck is a Scottish shepherd Saint Bernard mix with a more wolf like appearance. And the battle was way more interesting and epic. Buck breaks both of Spitz’s hind legs but not before Spitz slashes Buck’s neck open. The book will always be better.
Buck and Spitz’s fight reminds me of Balto and Steele’s fight. So what if Balto, Nikki, Kaltag and Star saw Buck and Spitz’s fight. Balto: Buck, No! (Kaltag grabs Balto) Kaltag: That can’t be legal. Nikki: Yeah! (Buck and Spitz continues fighting) Nikki: Hey, Buck’s got wild strength. Star: "What's with Spitz? All Buck wants to do is help!"

Better to oversimplify then be confused about intent!
Spitz was really a piece of 💩
Actually he's not much of a villain in this version. More of a bully that became consumed with jealousy.
👍🏾
Well, Tbf, it’s really hard to show that character in a dog when you don’t give them childish inner dialogue.
Buck chose true leadership while Spitz chose evil an selfishness ...

The white wolf in Balto is the angel this black wolf is the demon, unfortunately the moral has changed over the years
Or both the white and black could just be sperits. Not falling to any demographic.
It's not?
It's just the representation of the wild part of him, what would be in itself a wolf
I think the big black wolf was guiding buck to the forest where he belonged because it was his destiny
the black wolf was trying to guide Buck to the wild, the black wolf wasn’t evil. + those are both 2 different movies. both of the wolves are spirits.
