Thanks for doing this video. Been a huge fan of Nick McCabe since the 90s, but always been too thick to pick out exactly what he’s doing outside of some of the main riffs etc. So a video like this, with guidance on effects and some of the more sneaky bits, is just magic. If you do more of these, you’ve got a few views from me in the bag!
Thanks appreciated - you're right; it's not so much the main riffs, but those little details that get thrown in. Definitely quite a few more I'll delve into throughout the year 👍
Interesting - I'm on the fence about whether to get one shipped out to where I'm loving at the moment, there is no way I could get a speaker cab where I am and really don't like headphones.
hmmm I would go easy on the reverb and use a plate or room preset and setup two delays, one in time with the beat and another slightly faster for the outro jam. This song is really busy on the pedals, you need a blues driver, boost / distortion, decent delay and reverb - the Qaudraverb is great for ASIH but from there on out you don't want to wash out the sound too much and need to have pedal board you are comfortable using with your feet unless you're wizard with MIDI controls...
@@quadraverve7917 well you already a top reverb and delay unit, but if you are looking at floor pedals then I'd say be kind to your wallet for now... I go for delays which are based on tape units for that gritty warbled effect, there is so much choice it's really personal preference. Get any cheap unit for now with a tap tempo and looper function, you can sell on once you hit its limitations 👍
Fuckin cool as fuck all you dudes on the internet doin these vids back int day I had no chance figuring out this shit and now I’m old but I now have a chance at least thanks to videos like this. Thanks
Amazing man subscribed instantly. Could you do a lesson for the pedals some day? I've tried this song a few times everything matches somehow but my delays dosent have the ambient room that you have, they just repeat endlessly the notes if it makes sense. I've set the quadraverb on large room and still can't get that mccabe "solo" tone in the ending
Cheers! I was hoping to do some pedal videos but it became a pretty big task to plan a video, shoot, edit and think of something to talk about without it being an incoherent mess so I abandoned the idea. Best I can offer is the Man Called Sun video which has a good overhead view of one of my pedal boards. In anycase the gear is all going into storage over the next few days as I relocate for work; hope to have some sort of setup next year to as this channel really motivates me to learn and explore guitar. I rarely use my Quadraverb and I think the delay on that unit would be too digital and 'perfect' if that makes sense, so when it overlaps it sounds flat. I would say the trick with this song is to get a nice blues tone (I ran a cheap Donner Blues Driver on this one) and find a delay pedal that is has a nice warm decay which gives your sound some mojo.
@@jptovee yeah I've watched the man called sun video and it gives kind of a good insight of what you've done for that tone. Do you think a compressor/ sustainer is needed to get your tone? I really hope when you relocated for work that you be able to upload videos. This channel is one of a kind that builds those sonic landscapes on guitar
The trick is to run your delay into the reverb. Then set your reverb levels first. Then move to dialing in the delay with some short repeats. Tap tempo will help here. After that. It’s a matter of your clean tone and another tone with drive to the point of break up. Alternate between the clean and dirty tones till you find the sound. Making micro adjustments on tone and volume knobs will help as well.
Really not a fan of direct line in / amp modelling so I just mic up my cab with a focusrite / cheap XLR mic from Maplins and hope for the best - it's an Orange so dirty enough on its own but I think for this I tried out a Donner Blues Driver which is ok but does clip a fair bit.
Shame I'm not likely to be ooop north for quite a while. Likewise if you ever happen to be in Bahrain I think the bars here need a bit of britpop glory 🤣
@@jptovee thanks for reply dude. No way. Bahrain eh. Alright for some cos its rubbish here. But im in sheffield if you ever find yourself back in the zone. Till then my friend one way to go. Best of luck on your travels. All the best.
@@jptovee if i would make This in positive grid 2 or GarageBand. What would the effekt be? No spesific names just is it echo, reverb, both etc? Just simplyfy it please
@@Mauruud Difficult to say mate. Reverb and Blues driver would do the trick but the amp is also a really big part of it. You just have to experiment and find a tone you like.
Nick McCabe is a one off musical genius! he has a singular category for his style...Love The Verve!
His style is Shoegaze.

Well said!
THANK You! For doing this tribute to McCabe!!! We need more!
You should do no knock on my door. Love that song.
Amen to that. Very underrated
I used the kemper which gave this and a lot more in terms of controlled feed back it was a supert unit

Cheers mate, I’ll have some fun giving this a whirl on the QVerb. I’m thinking Chorustrings 2 or maybe Taj Mahal?

Are you using a modelling amp? If so does it take the blues driver ok?

You'll have to dig through the comments I get this question quite a bit but I would start with getting a decent amp and a blues driver 👍
