Great choice and cover as always Adrian, cheers! You're right, Nick McCabe truly is an unsung hero. I remember seeing them in 1993 at the Guildhall in Southampton supporting label mates Smashing Pumpkins, I'll never forget someone in the crowd shouting "piss off and come back when you've learned to play your instruments"!! Seeing them live was a privilege - that sheer wall of sound and ambience that couldn't quite be captured on record. Another unsung hero of mine is Paul Banks of Shed Seven, definitely worth checking him out for creativity and talent.
Well done. Agreed that Nick is a legend. Sort of the Mick Taylor of our generation. In both the good and the bad ways. A very moody player with a beautiful legato approach; has not chosen to grace us with this beautiful playing since leaving the seminal lineup of the new millenniums most powerful and promising band.
@Sam Myers Oh come on Sam :) You cant deny that there are at least a couple of nice tunes in their catalog. Even at the reunion 10 years after Urban Hymns on the album Forth they were able to muster up some gems.
Really excellent lesson and great to learn and play. Trying it on a Gibson SG 61 Re-issue as it has the two Humbuckers and well, it sounds reasonable. I picked it up but never really found a real use for it and now it's become my Verve Guitar...
One of the best bands ever... If you get the chance find them at Glastonbury.... In 2008 I think... And marvel at how a four piece rock band can produce music of such power and grace.... Adrian you're a real gem!
Hi Adrian! When are you gonna teach us anything Bernard Butler's ever done? I think he's the most underrated British player in history. And what a player he is, an overdriven Johnny Marr! Keep rocking, you're awesome!
Love it Aidan man class tune back when I was Young n crazy and noting but the moment seemed to Matter. Now I’m older a little less crazier but still the moments all that matters. And so it Goes.🙏🏼✊🏼🎶😎
"True" Verve fans know that their first album "A storm in heaven" was their best, then "A northern soul", then "urban hymns". They were always best in their shoegaze trippy early period. Camden town hall '92
Nick McCabe was criminally underrated and overlooked at the time, The Verve were considered a bit of a joke, except to those of us that loved them and Nick`s huge, noisy textures.
Keith Richards would remove the low E string completely, tune the A to G and it really impacted the resonance of the guitar. Seems to apply to this amazing song... Thanks for the video, you really are helping people!
Love the videos man! Always looking forward to your content. You’ve been a huge help in my musical progress and it’s much appreciated! Do you think you can do a lesson on Only a Shadow by The Cleaners from Venus pls?
I loved it!! You should teach a song off of Twin Fantasy by Car Seat Headrest. Perhaps Cute thing or Beach life-in death? I’m not too sure if you’ve heard of them but they’re pretty neat and you should check them out.
amazing video, love your choice of tracks. I was wondering what are the copyright and publishing considerations one has to keep in mind when tabbing/scoring out works that are within copyright and publishing limitations, specifically, is there a workaround that people are using when doing lessons with tabs on Patreon and such sites.
@@adamlitchfield3371 Search up on RUclips The Verve BBC Radio 1 Sessions. So It Goes starts at 44:38 It can be hard to find because the BBC blocks it for copyright
You need more feedback in your amp. There are too many harmonics muddying up the notes. Try FETs rather than Tube amplification. Something like a receiver with auxiliary inputs, built in the early 70's with FET power output transistors. Get some model with about 1% or so harmonic distortion. Read the specs on a make and model number search of Google, for the letters FET, usually listed as x-1FET. The one FET is the output power transistor, and it should have better sound than a modern amplifier or a Tube amp (with too much harmonic distortion). You've evidently heard talk about the old style instruments and their amplification. They indeed sounded better, because of the FET Amplifiers used in them. It sounds to me like you're using a Tube amplifier, with their harmonic distortion.
A perfect example of why the Verve were never massive , disjointed jangly crap. To answer your question Adrian it was recorded by a monkey with his head in a shitter.
Nick McCabe is a true master of atmospheric guitar, the album Storm in Heaven is a masterpiece, a life changing event
Yeah, that album is life-changing ❤ It might still be my favorite from them
Love Nick McCabe, Not only a brilliant guitar player but a sonic architect as well. Great stuff Adrian, cheers.

Great job mate! One of my two favorites songs from A Northern Soul
“A Storm In Heaven” is an incredible album as well.

Cool! Nick McCabe is an amazing guitarist and does not get mentioned enough.
@Sam Myers It’s lucky I don’t come to RUclips comments sections for their wit Isn’t it?
@Sam Myers i used to think that too, time has treated their music well.
@Sam Myers Oh come on Sam :) You cant deny that there are at least a couple of nice tunes in their catalog. Even at the reunion 10 years after Urban Hymns on the album Forth they were able to muster up some gems.
@@mrsoul4231 You are a Lucky Man indeed.
Awesome! Nick Mccabe is a genius, their ancient b side Change My Life has imo one of the best riffs ever
Thank you for this! There are not many Verve tutorials apart from the three chord acoustic stuff, so this is huge.
Majestic performance! This is one of the best on A Northern Soul. Also Life’s An Ocean… Thanks for a great breakdown!
Wasn't expecting this one, great stuff :) For more great 90s alternate tuning stuff, I recommend Kevin Carter by Manic Street Preachers :)
Northern Soul is a masterpiece. Thank you for doing this video!
Nick McCabe is an amazing muscian! Love the Verve!!
Ah, my favourite Verve song! Great choice Adrian!
Their music is so overlooked. Love the vid. Thanks!
Thank you for this - a great track that I had no idea existed. Really enjoyed playing it last night from standard tuning tabs. Cheers!
You always pick great songs. No cliches round here. Thank you!
Brilliant stuff! Can never have to much Verve. Please, keep them coming.
You need to get your chops around A Storm In Heaven. Some even more impressive McCabe sonic sound scapes on that album.
could you a new decade pls? great video btw!
Great job with the lesson and the sound. Would love some more verve lessons from this era.
Wow thanks so much!! A great lesson!
I'd love to see more of your in depth lessons on Verve songs, especially in terms of creating atmosphere.
Oh yeah!!! I love this song!! Thanks for posting! Im looking fwd to digging into this one!!
Best guitar channel around!
🙏🏼
Please more verve content. Nick McCabe is a genius player.
Be great to see you cover something from a storm in heaven, incredible guitar sounds on that record
Really excellent lesson and great to learn and play. Trying it on a Gibson SG 61 Re-issue as it has the two Humbuckers and well, it sounds reasonable. I picked it up but never really found a real use for it and now it's become my Verve Guitar...
I must admit that I was completely unfamiliar with this song, but your rendition was very moving...thanks again for your wonderful tutelage, Adrian...
Nick McCabe.......Architect of soundscapes✌❤
Great work as always Adrian! Their earlier release A Storm In Heaven is a superb record - any chance we could get a Star Sail lesson, or Slide Away?
Almost wanted to foolishly reply that: " Thats an Oasis song mate". But thank you for reminding me of the superior slide Away;)
Lessons on both. I think I have most of Slide Away nailed but always like to see some other perspectives on it.
One of the best bands ever... If you get the chance find them at Glastonbury.... In 2008 I think... And marvel at how a four piece rock band can produce music of such power and grace.... Adrian you're a real gem!
My copy of A Northern Soul is looking pretty tatty these days, but it’s a gorgeous album. Best they ever did, IMO.
Great lesson Adrian
What a band

Your lessons are always a treat, thanks Adrian! What about some Richard Thompson stuff?
Love it Adrian.
Did You No Wrong early Pistols please mate .A great tune would be amazing to see. Thanks again.

Very nice to just listen to...
Superb... Again!!

More Verve!
Nailed it!
So good thanks for that

Nice one Adrian, thanks for this. Would love a transcription of Life an ocean too.
Thanks Adrian, ‘QUALITY’!
Catherine Wheel next? Something from "Chrome"
Pain would be awesome, indeed

Had a look but couldn’t find it. Please please do a play through of ‘A New Decade’ from the same album that is such a great opening track.
bit of Richard Thompson in there too! A future lesson perhaps?(hint, hint!)
wicked video bro
If you want to hear some incredibly beautiful guitar parts, listen to 'Drive You Home' on this same album
Great work! Can you do Teenage Riot?
Love the video! Just curios, is that an R9?
Got an Adrian crack-up in this video! 😊

That main riff is harder to play than I first thought!
More Verve songs please. 😃 maybe something off of Urban Hymns?
I know he used an Alesis Quadraverb effects unit on the early dreamy numbers.
And a Watkins CopyCat ,at times an EchoPlex
😎🎙🎸✅
Great song! You should listen to the live version from the BBC Sessions. McCabes guitar sounds much better live than in the studio
Where can I find this mate?
