Low Water Death March Float Trip

  • 10.3 mile hike, not 10.3 mile float trip. That's what we did. The bite was decidedly off, but we had fun on a beautiful small Virginia river. It was pretty much a trip to the aquarium, with super clear water, we got to see all that this fishery had to offer, even if they weren't ready to play. We will be back. Lot's of 20 plus inch smallmouth in this small water. We just couldn't catch them in low water.

    Jeff, thanks for sharing these adventures with us, check in regularly and live vicariously with what you share. Brutal conditions with the shallow water. The heat wave here in SE Pa has really shut off the smallie fishing. We need rain and cooler temps which seem to be nowhere in sight. Restricted to local fishing for the most part, I do best on the big smallies in the Fall. Thanks also for teaching the generations to come to do the right thing, you are a man of ethics and great dedication.

    I also don't understand why people think it's acceptable to just throw trash anywhere on this beautiful land of ours. I do the same thing when I see it. Pick it up and do my best to set an example for others. If I see someone trashing the land, I ask the question... Why do you think this is OK? Several times the answer is (Not my land or someone will pick it up.) Disgusting! This is why property owners that have Prime access Don't want anyone on their land. Thank you for pointing out what an issue this really is public land or private. RESPECT is earned not when you show the same.

    Man, that was grueling just to watch all that portaging, Jeff!! I would have needed a life-flight outta there! I'm from Virginia and I can't even fish my local river because every access point is private property. God forbid you let someone who is just trying to relax and do a little fishing. I drove 10 miles and only points were steep bridges. That's why I drive to other rivers because it's so much easier and people aren't land hogs in some places.

    • @TheLittleStuff
      @TheLittleStuff  3 месяца назад +1

      Use OnX App to find the legal, public water. Cleaning up trash at these sites helps all of us retain those areas as legal, public access. Trash there eventually shuts down public access.

    • @svengalt9546
      @svengalt9546 3 месяца назад

      "land hogs" HAHAHAHAAAAA did you see all the trash as soon as Jeff got out of the truck? "Public" land is always going to be the nastiest with the most poaching. I believe that it is an injustice that "public" lands exist since they are abused by 90% of visitors, many of whom don't even pay net taxes or licenses to build or maintain these areas. Leeches. "Public" lands exist only to be controlled by authoritarian lazy money stealing governments and destroyed by the animals we call society.
      It's called Tragedy of the Commons and you will see it happen to every single "public" organization or asset. If it's worth using or preserving, it needs to be privatized and enforced, pay to enter, registered, etc., because we have all seen how government takes our money and does nothing to preserve or enforce "our" assets. We just lose with these collectivist "public" systems.
      We need to be more selective with who we allow into our natural resource areas so we stop seeing hordes of inner city welfare leech litter bugs poaching them while our DNR says "yeah we don't feel like coming our for that, but we will write a memo, sorry."

    Virginia is unique also with the fact that the landowner can own the bottom of the stream or river also. Read up on this. It has gotten tubers and people fishing in trouble here before. Due to the crowds of people from DC and Baltimore that come out in the summer, everything around where I live is posted.

    • @dylanwebb5199
      @dylanwebb5199 3 месяца назад +2

      I think your referring to the Kings grant land on the Jackson. Those are the only places in VA where the land owner owns the river bed. And that's only because the land was granted to a family pre 1776. Everywhere else that is navigable the land owners rights stop at the high water mark.

  • @aceboardtheangler5252

    Question: can you skip a weightless fluke? I was fishing a small river with a high flow yesterday & was committed to my weightless worm. I caught nothing on it. My swimbait did not even get hit. I thought about putting a fluke on, but figured it was not the time to experiment or I would be hung up in everything

    • @theone031

      I believe its even been to hot for the fish lol. I've only been catching them early and late on these extremely hot days. Largemouth and smallmouth have been hitting flukes. I couldn't get a bite on crawdads or hellgamite but they tore a Salty Fluke up.

      @TheLittleStuff  3 месяца назад +1

      That spot we used wasn’t public. It was private, but not posted. All other possible access points along almost 20 miles of river were posted heavily. Why? The trash. People hit their limit with the abuse, and they shut it down and posted up.
