- The new cupboards have arrived so I can finally get this kitchen completed. The quartz people come to measure for the new worktops and they show us there £15000 equipment to do it
Love the "price of hardboard" response to hearing that the laser gizmo costs £15k! Great result at the end despite all the Wren pitfalls. Well done, as always.
We recently had our Wren kitchen fitted by one of their independent installers. Can't fault the workmanship at all an amazing job they job and we found Wren an amazing company. Really enjoyed your videos on the kitchen install.
Such a positive attitude by all you guys. It's a real art this kitchen-fitting. Doing it properly like you do anyway
Thank you very much, it’s kind of you to say so. 👍🏻
Great job under very difficult circumstances. Nothing but admiration for how you’ve persevered. Best wishes Mike 👍🏻
Cheers Mike and for your continued support for the channel 👍🏻
I've done loads of kitchens, the best tip I can give is, those small wall cabinets, you get a small hanging bracket, I scrap those and use a full length bracket, which you can cut down, or I like to notch the wall units, and run a full length across the wall, 1. You can get over cables, 2. More fixings in. 3.you can get it level much easier.
Good advice there Carl, this is something I do too, the standard brackets are way too small.
Ahahah yet I'm not a fitter but when I put my kitchen in I used those long brackets so I could miss any cabinet lighting cables coming down the wall perfect.
Where did you get this type of bracket / rail?
watched all four - good work sir.
Love the quality of workmanship, pride & detail that you put into your installation! You’ve certainly convinced me that Wren Kitchens is defo NOT the place to buy a kitchen from - just couldn’t believe the issues you identified - 👌
Great video and top quality work!
Wren kitchens sounds like m f i kitchens with all problems ...Nice job with kitchen looking good 👍
Great video, bud. I share the same views on Wren kitchens, absolutely hate fitting them, and probably won't fit anymore.
Regards to the handle/knob jig, I've got one, had it many years. I simply set jig up with correct set back etc and I mark the door with a pencil and drill hole with a bradpoint bit. Never had an issue with it. Keep it up with these great videos 👍
The cardboard vs laser cost was a scream 😂
Fantastic workmanship again……
Just so you are in the know, wren kitchens is a company that is owned by the
Original owner if mfi and has all the hallmarks and issues of old , I am a kitchen fitter who worked for nobia which is a big group who owns magnet aswell as others , in my opinion for what it's worth the only kitchen company worth it is Howdens but they still have issues , commodore kitchens in London are good too , thanks for your videos really enjoy your content .
Thanks for the comment Andrew. We always value another tradesmens opinion. Enjoy your week 👍🏻
It just goes to show how opinions differ, in my opinion Howdens are poor quality and some of the designs they produce are awful! Their walk in larder and pullout bin unit are total junk.😂
Great vid. Don’t like wren either. The fillers I normally do the other way so not made of two bits so you don’t get the line. I wud have worked out from centre of the hood unit so equal both sides with fillers. Done a cracking job tho
A tip for getting stickers off. Spray with furniture polish and let it soak in. They will peel off easily.
That's a shocking design 😮 In addition to the wall unit disaster with the fillers, the 400/800 corner base unit has so much dead space, a 500 door on a 1000 corner and a 500 to the right of the drawers would have been much better.
Maybe you should have put those wall fillers on the base run either side of the drawers to keep the alignment above, would have saved a lot of faffing with scribing fillers either side! Looks like there was plenty of tolerance to make that corner post smaller to fit them in.
I always make sure to check the final plan with the customer before they order to avoid silly issues like this.
Great videos, very insightful 👍
It's when you say to a customer that you won't fit a certain brand of kitchen and they look at you like you're an idiot because Mable 3 doors down has a "so-and-so" kitchen.
Isn't business fun?!? 😂
Looks great mate. Glad I found your channel!! 😊
Cheers Nathan welcome to the channel 👍🏻
I have one of those handle jigs and they are brilliant for doing handles
Particularly if your doing cheap bog standard kitchens
For the money, you can't grumble to be honest can you.
Your right it’s good enough to do the job and as long as you know it’s limitations and are aware that it may move it’s all good 👍🏻
@@Mr_A_Builders yeah use it for doing kitchens in rental properties and it’s perfect , if it’s a top end kitchen there normally handle less nowadays
Stunning job mate, skills overcame a poor quality unit. Just goes to show, a good installer can make a not so good kitchen, look good. Top stuff Richy
Thank you Logan much appreciated 👍🏻
Toilet / WC has a basin, kitchens have a sink. I learnt that from working with plumbers on a lot of refurb jobs. Plumbers get very sniffy if you refer to bathrooms or WC having a 'sink'.
I believe those handle screws just have like snap off points. I use two sets of pliers holding the screw close to the desired “snapping point” then the other to bend and snap off the excess thread 👍🏻
Caramel wheels are good for removing sticky marks from surfaces. Make sure you set your drill to a low setting and, test on a piece of off cut first if possible, if not just take it easy 👍🏻
The best thing about a wren kitchen is when the blag kitchen fitters do one
Excellent job, are you self taught in the different trades? What is your first trade? Just subscribed, will recommend your channel to friends.
I think you’ve done a great job fitting the kitchen, the design is not balanced an too busy. You would think they could make the units to individual dimensions, unlike off the shelf stock cabinets and cupboards, given Wrens price tag.
I’ve used a local guy who makes cabinets to order and orders doors to suit (and door types and finish don’t depict the price, as there was not a great deal between shaker and hi gloss acrylic).
Am soaking all this in still Rich.
Great videos and great workmanship.👍
You mentioned that Wren kitchens charge a premium price for their product but they come delivered out of square etc. I am about to order a new kitchen and was considering Wren, however, this makes me question the quality. Who would you recommend as a similar priced product with better quality?
For anyone thinking of buying a kitchen, watch Nick Morris, he's just done a great video on 5 different kitchens, DIY Kitchens are the best!
As someone who has fitted many kitchens from a variety of suppliers, I can confirm that how much you pay has no bearing on the customer service or quality.
Probably the worst example was a B+Q kitchen, which due to missing pieces and damaged doors and the replacements being equally as bad.
Was actually finished six months after beginning the installation.
I was lucky with my wren kitchen. All the measurements were right and the fitter found it all straight forward and good quality ( first Wren he’d done). A broken hinge was replaced via the app and arrived next day in the post.
I have one coming in 3 weeks and seeing nothing but hate for Wren and the fitting of them. Starting to regret it now. I am a joiner myself, so will be fitting it, but never fitted a Wren one in the past.
Hi…Watched all four parts of your Wren install which was superb and very informative. Thank you. I am in the middle of installing my Wren Infinity Plus kitchen…not without measuring issues!😉
May I ask…where the decor panels meet the pelmet on the wall units, above the three draws, they appear to protrude about 5mm past the bottom edge of the pelmet, rather than be flush. Is this intentional and how you prefer to do it. 😊Thanks
Hi David. I’m racking my brains as to how I did it but if I remember rightly it’s not my preference but I like to keep my end panels 1-2mm in front of the doors/draws but the cornice and pelmet material from Wren wasn’t very deep so although I prefer to sit the pelmet further forward so it’s in line with the pencil round I couldn’t without losing the fixings point to the underside of the wall cupboard. Hope that’s makes sense. 👍🏻
Thanks👍
@@Mr_A_BuildersHi again further to my previous message…Looked at your video again and you mention ‘shaddow’ gap/space on the decor panels which overhangs the pelmet by 5mm. It does look really neat👍
Please May I ask your advice…I have now started to cut/scribe the end decor panels. My walls are way off plumb so I bought an Easyscribe tool for scribing. I cut the scribe with a Milwaukee circular saw, which made a right dogs dinner of it, as I wasn’t cutting a straight line!😢
Is a jigsaw a better option for cutting scribes? Thanks
Leicht. Expensive but quality is exceptional.
hi Mike love the videos on the kitchen job wern are we seeing the window being fitted to the up stairs allway and how much work have you go to do
I’m thinking about a new kitchen, I was considering Wren, but I’m put off by your experience! What kitchen brands do you recommend please?
Mkm
DIY kitchens. Well put together and no messing around. Made in Yorkshire aswell. Other than that magnet, howdens wicked not bad. Definitely not IKEA. Good luck.
Use a local firm support your small businesses :)
What do you do if you have to scribe the bottom of an end panel due to an uneven floor? Concerned about moisture now you’ve said it 😂
Hair dryer to warm glue and peel off stickers.
The few videos I have seen has been with Wren on older homes. Has anyone installed the kitchen cabinets in a home built from 1980 to 2005?
Fairplay mate, another great episode showing how every day "construction" work can be very awkward. Cupboard hinges half fitted, screws not fully tightened, designers/measurers unable to use a tape measure and every little "discrepency" needs to be "over come" by the installer! Which in most cases....isn't noticed or known about by the customer, isn't paid for by the manufacturerer/supplier or client because most of the time you just want to crack on and get the work done and finished to the best of your ability, it can really get on your tits at times! I genuinely could count on one hand the number of jobs fiitting Wickes kitchens for 5 years that ran without some type of screw up on their part....every job there was something damaged or the wrong size or the plan couldn't physically work or the wrong colour or wrong type of unit or appliance. They would even send you the exact amount of, say plinth, once you had cut it all to the correct lengths etc you"d be 8mm too short because they were that tight the wouldn't allow for the thickness of your chopsaw blade. We would have to buy a 3 or 4m length to finish to job. Great job my friend, you done your lot proud and I look forward to the next, cheers bro 🙏
Thank you for your comment. Onward and upward now. We’ve really enjoyed completing this project as a whole for the customer and I hope they are really happy with it all literally from top to bottom.
Already completed another job ready to upload and moving onto another shortly. And of course Adam’s been hard at it working and filming his. Thank you for the support mate it makes it all worth the time and effort. 👍🏻
@@Mr_A_Buildersgood on yer bro, just crack on, you can only do your best and it looks spot on from here mate 👍
What's a good kitchen unit supplier for the DIY'er?
Morning mate, I'd try DIY Kitchens. Very very good.
www.diy-kitchens.com/
Cheers and btw great job on this one - the attention to detail was amazing.
What is the next project coming up on the channel Rich. Did you ever get the job for the property you did the home office at the top of the garden?
I know it won’t be seen but wish all the walls had been finished with white paint
There are none of these problems with DIY Kitchens of Pontefract who are much cheaper than Wrens and the quality is infinitely superior .
The cupboard in the alcove. The handles won't bash into the fridge cupboard?
No. It is a pull-out cupboard, not hinged. The whole door front and the internal wire baskets pull out towards you.
What Huepar laser level do you use?
It’s the 360 one mate. Very good well worth a purchase 👍🏻
There's a company called Crafters Companion they do a spray called Stick Away to remove the label 👍
Hope it was all sorted in the end
Let's find out 👍
I've just spent 10 grand on a kitch fron wren I haven't checked it yet but are you saying wren's kitchens are not square?
I’m not saying that all Wren kitchens are out of square I can only say that the one I had was out of square. I may have been very unlucky with my whole experience of using Wren for the first time your experienced may be perfectly fine. I hope it all goes well for you. If you have any other questions I’m happy to answer them. Enjoy your weekend 👍🏻
@@Mr_A_Builders cheers my friend your video is perfect for tips for me thanks. Yer the only thing I'm not looking forward to is the dishwasher at the end of the run with end panel 😂😂
@@Mr_A_Builders morning fella I'm off to get my wall cabinet fixings what do you recommend for strength I read washer head screws size 8 or 10 gauge I've seen them for wood but not block work hope you can help😁
If it’s dabbed walls I’d recommend corefix fixings (covered these in one of the Wren kitchen videos) it’s what they are deigned for and even invest in the full length wall hanging brackets.
If it’s solid walls I’d go minimum 2 1/2 x 10 screws ( 60mm x 5 ) and brown plugs in all available holes. Only my recommendation cos you’ll need to check the structure of the walls first and make sure they can take a good solid fixing.
Just get your base cabinets fitted first so you can use them to line the up the end panel. Remember to check top, middle and bottom both back and front of the dishwasher opening to make sure you get you required 600mm opening and also be mindful of the height. I always set my base cabinet height at 870mm minimum from the highest floor point even though as you may have seen from my dishwasher episode you’ll still have to put the legs on packers. I still can’t explain why we have to do that after all these years. Any more questions feel free to comment or contact us on our email mrabuilders21@gmail.com 👍🏻
Good job. When’s the team gonna get back together. Your best content is when yous are all on a big job
Hat's off to u rich, messing about with a really badly designed kitchen, filler panels all over, ceiling to low?no it wasn't! Top video ,do me a favour, level is horizontal n vertical is plumb , keep it up
Hi Phil. I’ve got a confession to make I do the level and plumb thing now on purpose because I’ve had that many people comment it makes me smile when I read them. Is that wrong?😁👍🏻
Thanks for the comment mate hope you have a good week
👍 how many man days to do that kitchen?
That toilet doesn’t look building regs compliant - you need a certain amount of space to the front and sides of a toilet, from the video looks like the hand basin unit is occupying some of that space.
Looks Good. How did you get on with Wren Customer Services? From my experience they are a nightmare, because they will only talk to their customer ( which is your customer) and your customer in general won't have clue how to describe what is missing or wrong. It's hysterical when they ask your 80 year old customer what plan number she is refering to and the poor lady hasn't got a clue. They wouldn't even speak to me while we were on speaker. The customer service agent would ask which items were missing or wrong. I had to tell the customer and she then repeated it to the agent, before he would accept the instruction!. She was asked to take a picture of a damaged door and email it to them. As it was her daughter who organised everything, the customer explained that she didn't use email. I asked if I could send it and the customer had to give her permission for my email address to be added to her account before they would accept the email from me.. And that is all AFTER an hour wait on the phone. You gotta love Retail Kitchen Suppliers. Loving the video's though.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Overall the new kitchen looks pretty good now Rich. Been a struggle and one hell of a learning curve for ya, I bet !!!! You left out the fridge/freezer fitting and removing the wall unit to install the extractor ( which is too low down to the hob imo) I bet there was some cursing there !!! Although you didn't quite install it to showroom/wren standards, you done good overall. Well done !!! ( also, there are really descriptive installation videos online showing how Wren recommend you install their units )
How Wren install kitchens?
Wren standards of fitting?
Your joking? Aren’t you?
If your not then you must be from Wren
One of the biggest problems with wren is they don’t have any warehouses you can go to if you need a few bits , they only have showrooms and everything has to be sent to you
@@Mr_A_Builders you could have gone to town and gave them a right knocking, but you didnt Rich. Kudos to you. And yes, I'm a contractor who has similar issues to these almost every day !!
Poor QC from Wren there. I'm in the process of doing up my own kitchen, so far DIY Kitchens is likely to be my final choice.
I've taken over a fit of a DIY Kitchen as the previous fitter had made a mess, personally I didn't think they were of good quality and wouldn't recommend them.
i;ve fitted 6 or 7 diy kitchens in the past couple of years and the quality is just as good as howdens for alot less money
@@markkerridge8084 Personally I don't think Howdens is much of a bench mark to be measured against these days!
Who pays exactly!!! Quite. I don’t want to be sued but I had one hell of an experience by them and I wouldn’t recommend them to my family one bit. Wrong measurements, units wrong, doors damaged, work tops buckled and scratched.
New to the channel and love the content, I have only watched this extension. Series and was wondering if you have an update on the moved man hole drain?
Hi Steven and welcome to the channel. It’s all sorted and was signed off. It was all a bit of a pain in the ass but we got there in the end. 👍🏻
Who's kitchens do you prefer
what about the floor covering ,did you allow for that and you need to put the floor in before the toilet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did allow for that Peter yep. Flooring under the kitchen base units is a waste of money. No need to worry about the flooring before the toilet they had stuck down LVT and it’s cut around it before a colour match mastic seal. The flooring was done and organised by the customer so we got everything finished a while before they had the flooring done due to screed drying times 👍🏻
That toilet at the end looks way too close to the sink.
The full length end panels should be notched at the bottom to fit behind the kick boards. It makes for a much cleaner look!
Fitted a wren the other week was a mess horrible to fit they had miss measured and all sorts and can’t speak to anyone on the phone from the local branch that supplied it puts u through to a national call centre who have no idea not like Howdens you can call or they’ll come out have a look 🤦🏻♂️
I feel your pain mate. Hope it’s all sorted now 👍🏻
All the pain and stress and hard work will be for nothing.
Within 6 months the finishes will begin to peel and break off.
Wren will blame the fitter.
Buy cheap, pay twice.
Thanks Jack that’ll help me sleep at night 😁👍🏻
I fitted one Wren kitchen years ago and said never again! I've fitted many kitchens over 11 years and definitely one of the worst, considering the price.
Looks like you're not a fan of wren kitchens ive Heard there QC is not the best
First and last for me Colin👍🏻
Wren pay their staff very, very low wages - more than 10k a year less than the usual trade average, this includes their "designers" and "fitters" who simply must be struggling/no good? to even consider a £21k a year job. The management who cannot put up a shelf straight get big bucks. You have witnessed the end product for yourself. DON'T BOTHER.
I’ve fitted a few wren kitchens they’re not as good as howdens and having the units with doors on etc is not a good thing
hope the homeowner doesn’t see this, they’ll feel well miserable about you down talking their expensive new kitchen.
They know all about it Ray we ask the customers permission to put onto RUclips at the start of any project plus all the problems and replacements had to go through them anyway so they are fully aware of everything. 👍🏻
@@Mr_A_Builders Fair play.
I’ve had lots of experience in kitchens and it just blows my mind why someone would buy from them. Us smaller businesses can compete and provide a far superior kitchen and service! I know they offer finance but you can get finance elsewhere! People really need to get the message!
The company I always use don’t do finance so we couldn’t use them and I think that this was the deciding factor for using Wren on this one but never again for me
Wren kitchens are truly shite...very expensive shite. Planners put a cupboard in front of a window. The first day of fitting and fitter said its impossible to fit without massive mods. After the fitting the laminate peeled off the cupboards and the work surface started bubbling. The quality was awful!!
Wren kitchens are over priced 100% for what they deliver. I stopped installing them. For the money DIY Kitchens are about the same quality and significantly cheaper. Anyway, people will continue to buy them…. If someone engages me to install a Wren I make it clear that I will charge for any additional time required to fix a Wren issue etc…. But what do you do when you’re trying to be a fair person and some young family has been left with problems…
Only dealt with Wren once, disgusting customer service.
The customer service was probably the best experienced I had. Oh well 😁👍🏻
Wren kitchens are proper crap
Worst kitchen I have ever fitted, £30000 and it was shit , sent out the handles and thee screws were to short !! Never again will I fit a wren kitchen, shit design and it doesn’t fit the room
God you dont half waffle on
You’ve got another option Scott.
No matter how long I’ve done kitchens I’ll always pick up something new. Thanks. Have you fit HOWDENS.? My last experience wasn’t good. Open gaps off square cabinets and backs falling off. Rickety structure. I did complain to them and was told I was the “only one” with these problems. 😮😮😮😮😮 although they did give some vouchers but nothing that would compensate for my time lost I haven’t gone back since. Mass production and fling them out to the outlets.
Hi and thanks for commenting. I have fitted many Howdens kitchens and I’ve always found them to be out of square, basic quality and as you say the backs of them not fixed very well only staples. 👍🏻
