      Good morning to both of you.... 🤗 Just a note.
      If I compare this to our Euro. Taking that 1 NZD should be 0.57 euros., .then that's about 860 euros. Net about 700 euros. That in turn would be inexpensive if the work would look like this.. I'm talking about a 30-meter pipeline. With jetting ,snaking and using the camera... Whereby the prices have risen sharply with us. (higher wage. too), because of the Ukraine conflict.

    I have a couple questions for you, your remarks and comments about a company charging $1500 6 months prior. Obviously you and I weren't there, was it Christmas eve at 10 o'clock at night when that company came out? I'm guessing it was certainly after hours, maybe for noise from the Hydrojetter they had to keep it to a minimum and did a blow and go job...at the end of the day, whatever that scenario was they got that drain flowing.
    Looking at that manhole, its on City/Council property, is it fair to say it's the customers responsibility all the way out that manhole? I say if it's not right on the property line then it's the City's or councils responsibility , obviously they don't have a half a million vac truck and don't bother doing any maintenance. Maybe the other company knows the City/Council will pick up the tab?. Here in Canada we have to pay an employee a minimum four hours for call out work plus a call out fee, so wether it's time and a half or double time it can add up fast. Even if the employee is only there 30 minutes. So to see emergency calls in that price range is normal. Are you willing to be transparent and discuss your bill for this job? Also how come you didn't jet right from the manhole right off the bat, where would be no clean up around the house and a lot less work?. Good job.

    • @mrdrains2088
      @mrdrains2088  Год назад +4

      Hi there. Yes in hindsight I could have jetted from the manhole, but most local authorities don't like their manholes being opened by private contractors, especially when so deep with only one contractor onsite for H&S.
      I also wasn't sure if I would need to move back & forth away from the manhole, which I would then need to close up each time & I was almost expecting the blockage to probably be waste caught up in the homeowners lateral at the side of the house as I wasn't expecting to find much in the way of roots since they were supposed to have been cleaned out 6-months prior.
      I know the company that did the job & it was standard business hours. They supposedly mucked around with 3-4 return trips picking up this & then picking up that (piece of equipment), including doing a CCTV of the drain, of which they actually didn't give to the client a copy or report. If they had given the client a CCTV report, this would have showed if they had cleaned the line properly, where the roots came from, which for that front section in their lawn & to the manhole is from City Council trees. The owner could have then requested the City Council reimburse them the cost.
      In NZ, there is a provision in the law that if someone trees damage your property or infrastructure, the tree owner is liable for the drain cleaning & remedial repairs. Since the trees in this case belong to the local authority, I will be providing the owner with the section in the law outlining this as it has served my clients well in the past.
      In terms of my bill, it was one visit & is a bit under $600.

      @@mrdrains2088 Your rates are very reasonable for all the equipment used. I hear good and bad things in regards to the flex shaft.
      I tend to jet upstream as much as possible. If I have to go down stream, I tend to do what you do and push down as far as I can then do short blasts and have an old shop vac on standby to avoid back ups.
      With your camera a rake or something similar to help guide into openings rather than smacking it on the concrete in hopes to get it into the pipe might be a cheaper investment than a camera head repair...lol
      I have the larger reel and the push cable is quite firmer, I might have got in with a slight swing but I still avoid any misuse as they are expensive to replace.
      With my business I would have just parked right close to the manhole and offered the customer a basic Hydro jet, I use the JETEX nozzle first then switch to the root ranger. I have the double barrel and a bunch of others, The JETEX is my goto nozzle.
      I then would offer the customer a price to run the camera up. On seeing the old piping, then I would have quoted for a new replacement line with a heavy walled pipe. Not all my customers want to pay for a camera, thus I cannot guarantee how long before another backup. Any roots I always offer a reminder service for maintenance. I find the customer avoids costly backups and helps generate business.
      I charge a call out depending on how long it takes to get to you, $50 and up depending on how far. Then separate rates for the Jet the camera etc...maybe extra for a flex if I buy one. Always good to see how things are done in other countries. Something quite satisfying and quick gratification with jetting.
      Yeah sounds like the other company isn't going to last to long if their prices where that high during normal business hours. Keep up the good work pal!

    • @mrdrains2088
      @mrdrains2088  Год назад +1

      Hi Paul. Roots usually get in on older pipe joins where either they eventually make their way through a mortar seal or old rubber ring & sometimes through cracks in the pipe. The pipes on this house will be 60+ years old at a guess.

  • @timanderson5457
    @timanderson5457 Год назад +2

    As much as you keep the jetter nozzle away from your camera head. so much more the business end of that flex shaft!

    • @mrdrains2088
      @mrdrains2088  Год назад +1

      It would be nice to be able to run the camera right up to the jetter head, but the pressure would end up damaging the camera seals, I've seen a number of guys damage their camera heads by running them by the jetter head. Using the FlexShaft & camera together really work well, but as you say it certainly does the business & I would not want to accidentally run the chains by the camera head - ouch! that could be an expensive mistake.
