Excellent video. Excellent advice, explanation and demonstration. Worked on my late 80's Pontiac when none of the "RUclips no tools required tricks" worked for me. Thank you for this!
Thank you so much...I eventually figured out I had to insert the tool between the vinyl gasket and the window cranks and then I got each one in seconds
Caveat: Sometimes someone who worked on it before will put the clip on the other direction. It will work fine, but you will need to push the tool from the opposite direction to get the cli[p off. PS: For those who don't know, instead of buying this tool, you can also just slide a rag behind the handle, catching the clip and popping it off.
If you slip a piece of cloth/rag thin enough to fit between the handle and plastic cover the retaining pin can be removed by pulling on the sides of the rag moving hands from left to right in semi-circle motion. It doesn't take more than 5 to 15 seconds at the most. Automotive technician trick no tool required. Tool is great if you have it.
An extremely important detail is the tool MUST go between the crank handle and the plastic washer - and NOT between the washer and the upholstery of the door panel. If the tool goes between washer and upholstery, you'll never pop that clip off
I was wondering how to do this. Problem is, apparently my vehicle has a different kind of window crank on it. It's a 1990 celebrity. I would love to take the door panel off to fix the mirror, but I can't get the damn window crank off. I've tried every trick on every youtube video and it's not working.
+syyenergy7 I actually think that I figured it out. It's the same principle, it's just the horseshoe clip is a lot thinner. The tool was missing it every time. I ended up having to pry the handle out a bit with the screw driver and then fling it off with a butter knife. A flathead screwdriver had too much of an angle. A real flat piece like a butter knife was perfect. Of course this caused the problem of having no idea where the horseshoe clip went, but I can just buy more at autozone.
Just use a shop rag. Slide it behind the crank handle and pull it back and forth. It'll catch the clip ends and pop them out. Works better than an tool you can buy.
Perfect video, thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your great communication. I like how you take a second and explain the details needed to get the job done right.

I used an old plastic bankcard, cut the groove out of card and slipped in down there. Worked like a charm.
It's a simple tool. But that whole tool set was $20. That is a lot less than many of the name brand tools.
You win , that is genius. The tool didn't fit well on my Focus. I'm going to try that !
Good, simple instructions 👍🏽
I have the tool but wasn’t sure how to position it to pop the retaining pin. Thanks
Good vid but what causes the clip to to go fully back in place when you bang the crank back on? Thanks.
Can’t read the part number on the kit. What is it? Thx

No tension spring?
Awesome demo
Very helpful, Thanks
Thanks learned a lot👍🏼
I love my 1976 square body Silverado truck. Nothing like a simple classic
Thanks, even a old dog can learn a new trick.
Have you ever had to replace the window regulator roller track guide wheel
I have a 1980 chevy el camino and can't find replacement parts

Good job city boy ,

Your missing the big plastic washer so the handle turns on it rather than the door pad vinyl.
Cant use that tool on a 1950s chevy, because there's no slots for the tool to get behind the sides of the clip.

+CigarBGuitarefx I'm not familiar with that car, sorry.
