I spent the last 6 months teaching myself music theory on the guitar. I can't play many songs but I can come up with things on my own pretty easily. Honestly theory is one of the most important things you can learn
@@FremontLeland well I watched the music theory basics from pretty much every video you'd find looking it up. Regardless of if it's on guitar or not music theory translates to all instruments. After that I mapped out all the notes on the fretboard and learned the intervals for major and minor by literally drawing each one out for each note till it burned into my memory. Then I started finding all the chords and their inversions on my own. I wrote about half a notebook worth of shit that I know. Most of it was repeating it to beat it in but if you do it enough you'll literally know every chord placement and what notes you can play with that. Learning the circle of fifths, fourths, thirds (for each key/mode) and how chord functions work make it easy to make a good progression and learning how to harmonize a melody is pretty useful too. I personally don't have much else to do and I lost the love I had for games and tv so I basically spend all my time on guitar and learning theory so my 6-7 months are filled with so many 6-10 hour days spent on learning so don't expect it all to come to you fast, it takes time. I learned mostly everything just by picking up new songs. Also if you really wanna step up your game talk to people who know a lot more than you do, there’s nothing embarrassing about learning. I’ve learned more in months picking up things from experts than I did in years by myself.
Learning guitar is all about the journey. You keep learning things along the way and you have fun doing it! You'll never master the guitar but that also means you never stop learning, and learning is fun! That's what it's all about. I love this video and ones like it. My son started very young and is an amazing player. I just picked up the guitar again after struggling and giving up MANY years ago. What surprised me was how many chords I knew and could play effortlessly. That said, there's a ceiling I hit very quickly. It's cool to watch you fight through it. I watch my son and I feel like he knows some magic trick to make it look so easy. But, then I remembered how he had a guitar in his hands every waking moment. I think Guitar Hero helped a lot with dexterity. Anyway, keep the vids coming!
Thanks for uploading this. Been at it for a little over a month and have been feeling bad about my progress. It’s a hard instrument to learn and you need to be patient with yourself
I started learning guitar in the mid of May 2021 (now it is 11 months exp). I could say it was the best decision I’ve ever made! Keep it up. As long as you enjoy and love it.
his progress in just 2 months is insane, ive been learning for 2 months too but i suppose i havent been as dedicated due to exams and school stuff, i can only do a few single string songs and one or two riffs, barely any chords. still, this is inspirational and i will give the guitar my all after my final exams in march
@AyushPatil-v7p unfortunately it isnt, a couple months after this comment, I had to pack up my guitar and focus on some competitive exams for college, when I took the guitar out again, the fretboard had bent and its beyond repair now, haven't been able to get a new guitar since but will definitely return to it some day
Nice job dude. This is really inspirational for me since i'm pretty much a beginner (i've played for about 6 months) thank you for this and keep up the work.

Always nice to record your progress. I started when I was 13 and 31 now and I still learn something new. If I had to suggest anything I would take some time to learn to relax your strumming hand and alternate picking as I think that is holding back your progress a bit. Keep it up!!
Ive been playing for 2 years on guitar (self-taught) and I must've missed something important cuz i feel something missing. Tips tho, learn songs for the first year, for the second learn scales and run them 4 to 5x everyday, you can have any number of scales, personally i have 2 to 3 scales i practice everyday. Im rusty cuz ive been on vacation but yea keep going you are getting fucking good
this was so cool to watch. i just got my guitar a few days ago and have been trying to find motivation to play it since i don’t really know anything abt playing it. this really inspired me to put in a few hours a day to practice. thank u:))
Learning guitar is not easy but every once in a while ya pick that instrument up and it opens up for you.. I am 5 months teaching myself how to Solo and recently began uploading my own Solos to backing tracks... Never give up your doing great!
Good for one year! Now practice bending(buy a tuner) and control ur intonation always. Then, practice synchronization of left-right hand using many practicing metods available on yt Try then scales(diatonic) and play it descending and ascending(slow till you get faster) And finally, try to cover solos, for example Bohemian rhapsody one,and try to learn how it happened(little help, its in E flat major which is relative c minor scale)-try to learn diatonic and relative minor to major scales. Keep it up and just play!
I wasted two months by doing riffs 😅 on my acoustic but now I got a electric im already getting better at doing chords just some words to everyone don’t give up
I am doing the same thing as you! I just reached my one year last week. I'm currently trying to learn solos. I'm struggling but I hope to get them down by year 2
I'm literally laughing. I ran across this post watched the entire clip, it reminded me of doing the same exact songs learning. I mean every single song you did I did lol it freaked me out it was like listening to me over a years time. A few things that helped me out with control timing and speed was my picking hsnd, anchoring my pinky down to the guitar. My fret hand Scales with a metrodome and using my other fingers instead of my pointer finger. Tips from Robert Baker, Phil X, and the man himself Marty Schwartz. Great job!
in about 3rd minute you start playing with some sort of comfort, well its not even a month since you picked it up, consistency is the key, keep going man
Would love to do something similar but my cousin around 2 weeks ago started giving me lessons, mostly working on technique, exercises, scales, and music theory which is actually helping me learn songs a lot easier.
Thank you for having the humility to be honest about this! I know soooo many people who lie about how long they’ve been playing (and for what?) It’s nice to see a change of pace
I picked up my guitar January 2019 for the first time, used RUclips videos and no lessons, take it 2022 I am still learning but have genuine confidence, plus getting told I am good a lot (may not be true) but then again you never know, guitar is about the journey and a little self reminder of where you are is just to retry the first few challenging songs you tried as a beginner
Nice man :) I wish most of my students were as diligent as you are :) Pro tip: Buy a clip tuner and make sure that you are always in tune and check every 20/30 min to keep it tuned, the G and B strings are the worst!
I practiced 8 hours a day.. Yes I had nothing to do because of online classes.. Now I can't practice because of exams.. But I like reached intermediate level in 5 and a half months
your picking hand seems a little uncomfortable but very good progress there. You can improve your picking by riffs like welcome to the jungle (the opening ). Good luck bro
I’ve been picking up and putting down my guitars for the last roughly 6years not until recently I started to take lessons, and the lessons definitely help me keep going because it makes me have to be accountable to someone to prove I’m practicing.
You'll never get bored of guitar unless you stop learning, so keep learning and keep having fun! 🤘😄
I started seeing a random video of eletric guitar, now I´m obsessed, seeing videos of it, seeing ur video was amazing, keep going dude, loved ur style and guitar. I always get happy seeing other people progress, guitar is amazing, I hope someday hear your musics (already subscribed)
Nice job buddy. I've been learning guitar for the past 7 years. You seem like you've gotta a real passion for it buddy!! Keep it up.
watching him get better as he progressively gets more guitars is so funny, a true guitarist right there
I love this video and ones like it.
Doing the exact same thing right now. Learning guitar and growing out my hair. Youve given me faith. Going to trust the process!
Thanks for uploading this. Been at it for a little over a month and have been feeling bad about my progress. It’s a hard instrument to learn and you need to be patient with yourself
Everyone's first song on the guitar will always be that damned 0 3 5
great progress never stop playing and keep improving you wont regret it and should be something you should be super proud of sticking with well done.
Seeing stuff this gives me the encouragement to keep trying and not to give up, thank you for that and much luck in the future🤟🏻
I started learning guitar in the mid of May 2021 (now it is 11 months exp). I could say it was the best decision I’ve ever made!
Keep it up. As long as you enjoy and love it.
On behalf of all the Dutch, we salute you and congratulate you for your fantastic progress. The Dutch are behind you, buddy!
Wow, is this from the king himself
his progress in just 2 months is insane, ive been learning for 2 months too but i suppose i havent been as dedicated due to exams and school stuff, i can only do a few single string songs and one or two riffs, barely any chords. still, this is inspirational and i will give the guitar my all after my final exams in march
How’s it going?
@AyushPatil-v7p unfortunately it isnt, a couple months after this comment, I had to pack up my guitar and focus on some competitive exams for college, when I took the guitar out again, the fretboard had bent and its beyond repair now, haven't been able to get a new guitar since but will definitely return to it some day
Nice job dude. This is really inspirational for me since i'm pretty much a beginner (i've played for about 6 months) thank you for this and keep up the work.
Keep it up man
Nice bro keep it up, it gets really fun at like 4 years
´sick, keep on learning! you managed to get my level after me playing 5 years in just 1 year :D btw at 10:38 its not "one" by metallica, its nothing else matters
Thanks for the video, I’m trying to teach myself guitar aswell. Sometimes it seems like it takes forever, this video shows me that it’s worth it to keep it going!
Way worth it!
Always nice to record your progress. I started when I was 13 and 31 now and I still learn something new. If I had to suggest anything I would take some time to learn to relax your strumming hand and alternate picking as I think that is holding back your progress a bit. Keep it up!!
Great suggestion!
just picked up the guitar recently and seeing this really inspires me to keep going, great work!
Im rusty cuz ive been on vacation but yea keep going you are getting fucking good
What about cords?
@@jaquillahillahfoodstamps I guess that music theory
Keep learning those blink182 riffs! When I was younger that’s what helped me learn! I’m also self taught.
this was so cool to watch. i just got my guitar a few days ago and have been trying to find motivation to play it since i don’t really know anything abt playing it. this really inspired me to put in a few hours a day to practice. thank u:))
Rock on!
Then, practice synchronization of left-right hand using many practicing metods available on yt
Try then scales(diatonic) and play it descending and ascending(slow till you get faster)
And finally, try to cover solos, for example Bohemian rhapsody one,and try to learn how it happened(little help, its in E flat major which is relative c minor scale)-try to learn diatonic and relative minor to major scales.
Keep it up and just play!
Thank you!
Started last january and so far, been killing it, good shit man you ahead of the game
I wasted two months by doing riffs 😅 on my acoustic but now I got a electric im already getting better at doing chords just some words to everyone don’t give up
this gave me all the motivation i needed.. starting today 10/5/22, lets see where i am 10/5/23
How was it since then?
Great job!
in about 3rd minute you start playing with some sort of comfort, well its not even a month since you picked it up, consistency is the key, keep going man
This is actually pretty useful. I'm learning and I have no clue which songs to start with and now I do. Appreciate you brother
Would love to do something similar but my cousin around 2 weeks ago started giving me lessons, mostly working on technique, exercises, scales, and music theory which is actually helping me learn songs a lot easier.
I need to learn more theory
@@FremontLeland Don’t we all lmao 😂
ive been playing guitar for almost a year now off and on and this inspires me to keep going. Started practicing every day for a few weeks now
His looks slowly evolved to Jhon Mayer
Finally a realistic yet impressive progression good job bro
Thank you for having the humility to be honest about this! I know soooo many people who lie about how long they’ve been playing (and for what?) It’s nice to see a change of pace
What an impressive journey, thank you so much for sharing!
0:51 what it's like
1:05 back in black
2:19 sweet child o mine
5:01 welcome to paradise
5:37 smells like ten spirit
10:38 one
Wrong it’s nothing else matters at 10:38
0:20 Space Oddity?
I picked up my guitar January 2019 for the first time, used RUclips videos and no lessons, take it 2022 I am still learning but have genuine confidence, plus getting told I am good a lot (may not be true) but then again you never know, guitar is about the journey and a little self reminder of where you are is just to retry the first few challenging songs you tried as a beginner
Nice man :) I wish most of my students were as diligent as you are :)
Pro tip: Buy a clip tuner and make sure that you are always in tune and check every 20/30 min to keep it tuned, the G and B strings are the worst!
Two years ago I pick up the guitar and never looked back I hope you keep going too
this is a very realistic sort of progression. How many hours do you reckon you practiced per day?
30 minutes to an 1Hour day
@X3FIX I play guitar since september and I can play Stairway To Heaven
@@megachad548 show us
@@megachad548 post a video of you playing it
I practiced 8 hours a day.. Yes I had nothing to do because of online classes.. Now I can't practice because of exams.. But I like reached intermediate level in 5 and a half months
I started playing like 5 months ago, this is so cool the realistic progression
Surely isn’t all rainbows and butterflies :p
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Congratulations! You've managed to wiggle one toe.
Yes just the baby steps for now!
I love how he shows the times he’s gotten frustrated. We’ve all been there
11:13 respect for you for that Nirvana🔥
Sounding great man!
I did expect to hear Smells Like Teen Spirit and all that; I did *not* however, expect to hear "Jessica" for some reason.
I’ve been playing for a month and the riffs I’m learning are from all over the place . Black Sabbath, Johnny cash, Queen, etc
your picking hand seems a little uncomfortable but very good progress there. You can improve your picking by riffs like welcome to the jungle (the opening ). Good luck bro
Yeah even now my picking hand is better but still definitely has a long way to go
I’ve been picking up and putting down my guitars for the last roughly 6years not until recently I started to take lessons, and the lessons definitely help me keep going because it makes me have to be accountable to someone to prove I’m practicing. I love that you’re self taught, it’s a pretty awesome feeling to teach yourself how to do something. My self taught stuff is working on cars and driving’s stick shift, unfortunately playing guitar isn’t one of them but hopefully I’ll be able to play well some day!
