This is a wonderful recipe. Thank you. My husband usually buys this from the SA shops here but no need to buy them anymore. Greetings from New Zealand.
I made this recipe yesterday using our farm coal stove! First time making rusks and I followed your recipe. Easy to follow and the recipe is great! They came out beautifully and tasted delicious in our coffee this morning 😊Thank you!
Wow, I never even tried baking in a coal stove, so definitely 🎖️ for you. There are so many variations of rusks, but this buttermilk one is my favourite. Hope you are inspired to keep on baking🌻
I don't know how these should tastes exactly, but i used maas medium cream (limpopo) brand and a bit of custard ( i dont really know what i was aiming for) but they are RUSKIN THANKS FOR THE RECIPE
I put vanilla essence in most of my baking, but never tried in my rusks. Although the buttermilk gives it a wonderful taste, I think adding a teaspoon or two of vanilla might make it even better. I am definitely going to try it with my next batch. 🌻
It’s winter and there’s no South African 🇿🇦 who wants to drink tea, coffee or hot chocolate without rusk biscuits. They are amazing ❤.
Absolutely! Good luck with the last part of Winter🌻
Thank you for sharing this God bless you all the time
It’s a pleasure. And may you be blessed as well🌻

You are so welcome🌻
It's so dry outside in Johannesburg right now, I'll probably just air dry them😂 going to put in a sugar substitute
And here in the Cape we had an extremely wet Winter. Looking forward for Spring🌻
Thank you ❤
Enjoy baking🌻
I usually use cake flour . How many teaspoons of baking powder?
When using cake flour, you can add two to two and a half teaspoons of baking powder to every cup of flour. 🌻
Thank you for the awsom recipy, what size is yor pan ? Or how thick should it be rolled out ?
It should be around 1.5 cm thick. My pan is 35cm X 40cm. I’ll be posting another rusk video soon🌻
Hello ,I am going to try this , can i put vanilla essence in

Hello, baie dankie vir die resep, ek gaan dit probeer. How long do these home made rusks last when stored in air tight container?
Dis regtig maklik om te maak. Dit word gewoonlik binne 2-3weke geëet in ons huis, maar ek is seker as dit goed geseel is, sal dit baie langer hou🌻
When you put it in the oven for 3-4 hours must the oven be on ? Won’t it burn ?
Yes, the oven must be on at a very low temperature (around 90’C).
Jy is so oulik. Dankie sussa ons waardeer
Baie dankie vir die mooi boodskap🌻
As ek die resep wil aanpas met Glutenfree meel. Hoeveel meel, botter en karringmelk gebruik ek dan?
Ek het so ongelukkig nooit self gluten-free beskuit gebak nie. 🌻
Lyk baie lekker, dankie USA
Yummy, dit lyk HEEL lekker. My mond water nou.😅
Dankie. Dit is so maklik om te maak🌻
Hi love the recipe but havent tried it. Can i use margarine instead of butter or can it only be made with butter.
Margarine is perfectly fine. Sometimes when I don’t have butter in the fridge, I use margarine, and it turns out just as good🌻
Thank you so much for your reply, much appreciated😊
Hi there, Please can you tell me where you got your baking tray and cutter from?
@@RoseDouglasTravelwithUsExplore you will be able to find the tray and cutter (combo) at baking stores in South Africa. I’ve seen them at CAB Foods.
It looks as if you are adding 500g of butter and not 250g ?
It is 250g (Econo Foods sell them in smaller blocks/bricks)🌻
