In this video COMPLETE TILE RE-ROOF (PART 1), Will takes you through a step by step roof replacement, as usual he gives you roofing tips along the way. We show you how to strip an old roof by removing the old roof lath, removing old roof tiles and then show you the process of felting a roof and fixing new roof lath before laying new roof tiles.

Never have I thought until I watched this video about the insane amount of work that goes into a house roof. Now I have huge respect for the people who do this.
Thats a fairly large roof. A typical roof, as long as you have everything ready should take no more then 5 days depending on man power
@@erhanhusseyin5071that’s no big roof when u get 400m2 roofs that’s when it takes 5 days never should it take 3 weeks for a tile roof metal is the go
Been a roofer since I left school over 20 years ago and it's nice to see some one who actually takes there time and has a bit of pride in their work as opposed to majority who just slap it on and don't give a fuck how it looks, keep it up lads and good luck going forward
It is a masterclass to watch Will and the team do this roof.
Build A & E should be teaching the next generation of Construction Workers. ❤
Can you tell me is there no wind on roof? How do one stay so upright and stable while working on roof?
@@iamarxalan have you ever been outside
@@Mightbeyourdad I live in Canada and not in UK thats why I was wondering.
Exactly. Hard to find these days.
It was actually satisfying watching this video of professionals taking pride in their work and showing how its done properly. Alot of respect for the amount of work that goes into a proper roofing job.
Not only clearly a very professional company doing a proper job, but made it interesting and engaging throughout, great work
Great Video Tony, its always a pleasure to watch Wills and the teams work with roofing and also helpful.
Glad you enjoyed it Glen 👍
I've watched this series several times now. Having a roof replaced soon, really valuable seeing the stages. Thanks for capturing it, great work.

Thanks Tony you to mate 👍
Damn! If I had my time again, I’d be a roofer. Marvellous vid. Thank you.
All the roofers I know are really cool guys. They seem to have an, 'easy', attitude and are hard grafters. Its got to be something to do with being outdoors all the time and they are a fairly hardy bunch.💪
Great work 👍
Work of art
👍👍
How pleasing on the eye are them valleys. Top work gents
Thanks for watching John! 👍
Once again, a lesson in craftsmanship. Love these videos.
Glad you like them Noah! Take care 👍
I really enjoyed that lol! I didn't know roofs could be so interesting! Haha
Nice work, gentlemen. I was surprised you didn't use contra laths / cross laths (I don't know how to espress it in English, because it's not my native language). I used to be roofer myself for three years and everytime we started nailing contra lath on the roof membrane to create ventilation gaps between roof membrane and the horizontal laths holding the tiles.
Awesome work boys 👌👌👌🏴
Thanks for watching Peter! 👍
Beautiful roof that one. Great video.

Wills a legend love your videos mate always well explained real professional. Why did you paint the rafter feet black btw they on show? Would of been great to see the whole set up marking out the battens and setting up 1st rows but I know you boys are busy appreciate all you same 👍🏽
Top tips
great video
Will is clearly a great roofer, and great in front of the camera.🤩 I've got a great tip for cutting those rafter feet, super accurate and super fast.👊 I liked the, 'chop, chop lads', getting the roof covered back in quick after it had been exposed.😃 Great stuff as always.
Hi mate please tell us your secret always love a tip 😁😁
@@martinbrice9802 Hi Martin. Line up all, (or 20 at a time), the lengths of timber that have been cut to the desired length. (looked about 600mm in the video). Then stack them tightly together, (the widest dimension vertically), on that lovely flat work bench by screwing the end two down into the bench. (you could also drive some wedges in between one of these to really pack all the others in tight, or a pair of long sash clamps would be idea) Now, pressuming that the bench is nice and flat, (if its not you could run battenes under each edge, not dissimilar to the jig in the video), and the timber is all the same size, you then mark your birdsmouth position on each end one and draw this line across the top of all of the stacked pieces. Now you set your circular saw to the pitch of the roof and its depth to the depth of the plumb cut, and just run it down one of the lines. Now set the saw to the seat cut, and its depth, and run it down the other line. BOOM. What you end up with is a load of stacked lengths of timber with a groove cut through them.😎 A 45 degree roof be the easiest, and this method would be limited to maximum angle your saw could be set to. (most saws now go over to 55 dgrees, so this would work with pitches down to 35 degrees). Super fast and super accurate.👍 I hope I've made sense.

Workmanship 👌🏼
Thanks for watching! 👍
These guys are definitely pro's, wonder how much this costed
This are workers. They master all what they are doing. They are very very courageous. I have a lot of respect for them. Not only its expensive to roof a House but thé worker need à high salary.
Nice to see Rik wearing safety specs and ear defenders while using the grinder. Health and safety at its finest.
big tune
Impressive!!!
so impressive
Hi all at A&E when laying out the roof battens do you have to work it out from the bottom or in the case of the back of the chimney, as seem's to be done here?
Loved the dubstep - like being in Fabric, back in the 90's!
👍👍
Pity the client never opted for a bonnet tile, would have complimented the valley and softened the hips, great video all the same.
I’m always glad when they go for a ridge on anything with more than 4 sides, less stress about getting all the rows to marry up
Top job 👍
Thanks 👍
Tiled valleys look class never seen that before
Thanks for watching, have an awesome week 👍
Hey will can I ask u a quick question I'm in ireland n we dnt do clay tiles or valleys like that over hear at all,do u line out the roof for the tiles vertically or just just lay as u go
Really nice 👍🏿
Thank you! 😊
Will is the man
He's a top bloke, thanks for watching Joe 👍
I am not a roofer. Actually, I’m afraid of heights and so this would definitely be the wrong career choice for me… I don’t know the first thing about roofing. However, thanks to the RUclips algorithm, this has come up in my suggestions at nearly half past midnight and it’s really quite satisfying to watch😁😁 nice roof😀
Top job will
👍👍
That's brilliant work. How much does it cost for a job this size in uk??
Its amazing how we all do things differently. We dont use cemented hips and verge anymore up here. If dry systems are installed correctly, they're maintenance free ...
But there shit pieces of plastic
Does will work in Staffordshire as I have a farmhouse that needs roof repairs. Interesting project
I'm a 21 year old roofer in training in Germany and I find it fascinating to see how other countries build their roofs. Nontheless it looks really good. I just love the craft
You Germans do some really nice slate work. Someone told me that German roofers have to do years of training before they're even allowed on a roof. Is that true?
@@Starwars0405 I can't speak for all roofing businesses in Germany but at least for mine it was different. I had a 2 week internship where I was watching my colleagues how they move on the roof. During that time it was not allowed for me to go on the roof. After the 2 weeks I was a helper for a few months and they let me go on the roof. Now I'm in training. So it was just for my internship. The only reason why I was not allowed on the roof was because I had no accident insurance which is a must have. Otherwise you are mostly useless when you're not on the roof.
@LaneLone my friend was probably exaggerating 😂
Top quality.
Much appreciated 👍
Hey, great work, I have a question, if u can help, can you build a wood structure on a flat concrete roof, thx
our landlord hired some people to re tile the roof and I wanted to ask, is dropping stuff on the existing roof a normal procedure?
What GoPro settings do you use for outdoor time lapse? Particularly the ISO Min and ISO Max!
Great vid again guys!
Roughly for outside filming on timelapse I'd say ISO Min at 100 and Max 800. Even on auto the GoPro's do a decent job adjusting to changing light conditions. Thanks for watching Marcus - take care buddy 👍
@@BuildWithAE thanks guys!
I ended up just taking real time shots to put in a compilation 😁
Hi will I’ve got a large area of flat roof what do think I should consider on my options of repairing it.It’s in very poor condition and has many re felt repairs.
Would you consider a rubber option or maybe putting a small pitch on it and tiling it. Thanks Steve.
Hi Steven it’s up to you you will know what’s right all the best Tony 👍
Wow,must be one of the best roofers in the country, master class, how would they have done all those cuts in the day before electric tools🤔,have a good weekend every one at AandE
Alot of time and patience I can imagine. Makes you think though doesn't it bud? Have a great week! 👍
@@kekkamush4538 credit were credits due my friend 😁
Great job lads no surprise there ,But you never explained how you are able to control the weather.👍👍👍👍
Hi joe we pray a lot 😂😂
nice fcuking job , great to see pro at work ,
I think this is the first time that I've seen a roof that didn't have plywood and a vaper barrier on top of the rafters ... is it because it's an older house , or is that a normal thing in the UK ?
To my mind there are some serious 'technical' issues with this roof!
These are the guys that I want to replace my roof.
How do you clean heavy concrete dust all over entire newly fitted tile roof as just now it’s light grey looking and I’ve been told rain will wash this away but I’ve hosed it and still looks chalky grey ( not nice) appreciate any information
What happens if it starts raining whilst the tiles are off, do you quickly cover it up?
You know when Wills going to do your roof it's going to be perfect👍.
Quality job guys👌
Thanks Gino 👍
And it will take a week longer than it actually should
Nice work not shaw were you are here in perth WA we do thing a little bit different like we use tile cunters not grinders an top ridges should never cut here in aus
Looks like quality workmanship, I’m guessing when ‘reroofing’ it can’t be relaid with the old tiles?
It can if the tiles are still in decent condition
What's the rule on nailing, tiles which interlock, is it every other row?
Bloody good roofing .
Thanks ST! 👍
Isn't there supposed to be a minimum of a 10mm sag on the felt between rafters on an unsupported roof?
Is there any reason why you wouldn’t reuse the old tile that aren’t broken and replace with new? Just asking as I’m currently getting quotes thanks good vid
Pro!
👍👍
Great video, but why no plywood sheeting?
yes interesting that was good
👍👍
I was quoted for a reroof of a detached standard 3 bed house..
7,500 euro ...membrane batton and slate included.
How much abouts does a roofer make on a job like this.?
What would have been useful is to name the products used, the type, sizes etc. How do you pick the distance between the lateral wood pieces? Is there a particular type of wood used? How is this related to tile size? I saw a house roof being done recently and they used the grey roof fabric but they overlaid a blue layer on top of this, any idea what this was and why it was used?
