We stayed at Hotel du Danube 40 years ago, and again, when we returned for our 25th wedding anniversary. It looks just as charming as when we first in love! I think we may return there when we visit Paris in 2026.🥰
Good video of some very neat places in my favorite Parisian neighborhood, like so many others. I've been fortunate enough to have now visited Paris over thirty times during the last forty years and all but one of them were in the Latin Quarter. I did the Relais Christine over New Year's a few years ago in a split level room on the opposite side of the courtyard as the one featured here. And I stayed in the Hotel St Andre years ago when it was still only a two star, and sadly remained scarred by that experience. I've often passed the hotel Danube on my daily walks but never stayed there, although I have tried three others nearby on rue Jacob. Now my favorite location is just off Rue St Andre nearer to Place St Michel, and I stayed there for the duration of the Olympic Games in their top floor apartment (for the price of a small car!). Everyone's tastes are different and ultimately what keeps me coming back to my favorite "residence" now are the staff who I've gotten to know, and its vibrant location just a croissant's throw from the Seine (with a clear view of St. Chapelle's dreamy spires. Yes, we'll always have Paris!
RELAIS CHRISTINE brings back so many wonderful memories. When I first went to Paris, I stayed there and the service was impeccable and the room was very elegant. Great breakfast buffet was lovely. Unfortunately I remember the room being too small but it had windows over looking the garden. Highly recommend it.
Thank you so much for your recommendations they're fantastic! Notingh better than a Parisian recommending adorable places there I truly appreciate it and I always enjoy your videos and tips!
I had the good fortune to stay in a Relais Chateaux property in the states, just outside Boston. Beautiful property, as is this, with excellent food and drink, service!! Wish I could visit Christine too❤
La Vallée Village is reachable with RER A. All 3 hotels are close to a metro line 4 station. From there you stop at the station Les Halles for the interchange with RER A
Alain, an excellent selection of lovely places to stay in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The film was just the right length for each property and quality of your camera work was superior as always. We particularly liked the Hôtel du Danube , that was charming, historic, and wonderful price for quality. The Relais Christine looked wonderful, particularly the first room you showed with the garden. There is no shortage of great 5* properties in the 6th arr., we usually pick the exquisite L'Hôtel on Rue des Beaux Arts.🥂
Thanks Matthew! I really wanted to show that even in the very touristy neighborhood of Saint-Germain, one would have a good choice in different categories hotels.
Fine video! Thank you. All three hotels are charming and attractive. For me, now I need to learn about hotel offerings in the Saint Georges neighborhood. Keep up the good work.
Those are all beautiful hotels. They look like wonderful options in Saint Germain. Just curious….do you have any thoughts or videos about Hotel Bel Ami in Saint Germain?
I have always wanted to stay on the Isle Saint Louis. Please do a comparison video of the hotels there. One can never really judge a room's size from the hotel pictures, for example. Thanks.
Thank you for the recommendations.😊 I am curious could you do research on Dog friendly hotels and/or parks. Or even blog on life of dog in Paris 🐶 Thank you 😊
Bonsoir, Merci pour cette vidéo très détaillée et informative. Je souhaiterais savoir si les hôtes de l'hôtel Relais Christine ont la liberté d'utiliser les produits Guerlain sans restriction 😊.
It gets excellent reviews everywhere. I didn't select it as it's directly on the boulevard. I would be afraid of the noise, though double glazed windows would solve this problem. It's very centrally located... I think it's a reasonable choice for Saint-Germain!
We stayed there a few years ago and it was excellent. A favorite memory was a nap on a hideously rainy Sunday afternoon with our window open (sheltered) listening to the church bells. We also liked their sister Hotel de Buci, unsurprisingly on Rue de Buci. We would fall asleep, again with windows open, to the sounds of joyous nightlife. Rue de Buci is practically a pedestrian street.
I would like to challenge you: can you find a good but very cheap hotel at a good location? Should not exist, right? But who knows: how about 20m2, airco, chairs to sit on and locationwise not more than 200m from the metro. And all of that for not more than 150 Euros or less? I don´t care where in Paris it is, as long as the metro or bus is near: I have a lot of time... So, can you find some candidates? I am very curious whether you would succeed😇
Not so difficult to find. Take a look at hotel Zora in the 2nd, or Hotel France Albion, in the 9th. I am condidering making a video about those less than 150€ hotels.
That's a good video idea, Alain. It would likely expand your audience. When I was much younger (back during the "Ice Age"!), through the recommendations of others, I was able to find some perfectly suitable, very inexpensive Paris hotels. My criteria back then was: proximity to the Metro, and relatively safe neighborhoods. Thanks very much for posting this, as well! @paristoptips
@@paristoptips That would be lovely. I usually go to an IBIS in a good location but now I am getting tired of them, so a new choice would be VERY welcome! Thanks😇
If youve got 3 full days max in Paris youre going to be out and about all day so you only need the basic comforts in your room . Of course if youre there for a longer spell thats different. That toilet decor was very trippy. Nice to see this range of places. I think St Germain des Pres is way over-rated. I like the (apologies) scruffier (a tiny bit) end of the 6th around St Placide,Notre Dame des Champs and off Rue d'Assas. Hotel Perrevye on corner of Rue Madame + Fleurus is just a few minutes walk from luxembourg gardens. In 9th arr.Hotel.St George Lafayette is in a quiet st not all like the naughty Pigalle area + the bus stop for the public bus up to Montmartre is just round the corner. Save your legs!
Interesting point of view, Jane! I really hope people viewing my videos can stay longer than 3 days. I've always thought that Paris should not be just one short stop in a journey throughout Europe, but a place which takes time to explore beyond the Louvre and Eiffel Tower. And, I admit I like my comfort when traveling (my other RUclips channel is about luxury hotels). It seem most of my viewers love St-Germain, as I do, but no worry, I'll make videos about hotels in different neighborhoods and at different prices in the near future.
Pigalle has not been « naughty » anymore for many many years ! It is now a quite sought after district, with lovely Hausmannian buildings (if you know what that is)
@@paristoptips I'm in UK so up to now I've been able to do multiple short trips as and when,on the Eurostar. If it's a couple or family group coming from USA or other farther place then yes I'd say 10 days minimum. And oddly enough (whisper it) Paris neednt be all expensive like the myth but maybe that spoils the magic a bit so better sort of uphold the mystique a bit!
Right! Relais Christine has a nice Honesty Bar... But you're in Saint-Germain, full of nice bars and yummy restaurants... Just get out of the hotel, and live the Parisian way! 🙂
I love Relais Christine. Tiny rooms but it’s close to the everything. There is a great restaurant right next to it a lots of bars and even more famous restaurants

Small rooms are quite common in Paris, as in London.
Old cities...
My true favourite area in Paris . It reminds me of Paris in the 70s, elegant, clean & classy
Also an old part of Paris with nice narrow streets.
Very nice. Thank you. The Danube fits my budget for my next visit.
I hope you'll like it!

Extremely useful information and nice soft music. For which hotel, it’s more convenient to take RER to the La Vallee Village?

For me, one of the best hotels in Paris is in the Saint-Georges / South Pigalle area, the 5-star Maison Souquet!
Thank you ... I have been looking for a hotel in St Germain for trip next fall. I just discovered your channel and have subscribed!

Hotel Madison?

The Madison is not noisy at all, as it’s well set back from the Boulevard Saint Germain.
