I may be to late to answer, but i believe it works right away. There are timers you can buy to plug in between the heater cord and extension cord and set it to whatever time you want. I.e you plan on driving at 7am, set it to start heating at 4/5 am.
When plugged in truck has built in thermostat and will only kick on 0°F even if it's plugged in
Does it make your hydro bill go up alot if you do it all winter ?
Does the block heater work as soon as you plug it in? Or does it only work at a certain temperature?

How do the engine heaters work on these trucks?
Was this an option? I bought my Elevation truck new in Oct of 2020 and it has the power cord but the outlet is not there.
Title should include the words 'cord' or 'plug in receptacle' As it is not showing the location of the block heater.
You do not need a screw driver...grab the fin near the top and press downwards while pulling out. Unless you just want to scratch your truck!
What a dumb design!
You're a dumb design
I think it's better than having a gay cord hanging out of the hood
@@Dmac6969it was dumb. But they fixed it thankfully
Really??? How would you do it engineer?
Mine is lower by the Tow Hook on the Silverado 2021.
Does it also keep the DEF fluid from freezing?
Block heater for Duramax
Do the cords come with the truck or do you have to buy them after market?
The cord will come with the truck, on both the 3.0 and 6.6. Thanks!
The cord will come with the truck. Thanks!
Probably worth noting. These trucks start with ease even at -35 deg C. Not really needed unless your at those temps or lower.
