The backward skip with the tap on each alternate toe done by Dennis Olsen at very end looks so effortless but is probably a devil to master. Brilliant performance.
We were so lucky the day Heather came to Australia and stayed! Apart from her brilliant comedy, she was a fabulous sexy Carmen, beautifully sung Adalgisa and a royal princess in Adriana Lecouvreur!
D'Oyly Carte is timeless and the ONLY performers who could adequately do justice to Gilbert & Sullivan. the characters come alive and bring smiles to many,, many patrons of the company
@@sKid-gh9ub it was so well done Dennis is so versatile, he must have learned well from John Reed. thank you for the information. I saw Pirates of Penzance in Boston, MA in 1964 and what a treat that was. thank you, again.
@@colinmccauley3301 Dennis trained at NIDA, a very prestigious acting school in Australia. He did a number of plays with the Melbourne Theatre Company before doing a G&S season with the South Australian Opera Company. After that, he joined the D'Oyly Carte and understudied John Reed, moving back to Australia when he realized John had no immediate plans to retire. Here, he has worked alongside some of the finest talent ever to appear in G&S, including Heather Begg and Anthony Warlow.
Fabulous! I have the DVD . Olsen sounds exactly like John Reed. He is great in keeping with tradition and the entire cast is marvelous. G&S forever.
Hi, may I know where have you bought the dvd?

I believe that Olsen is superior to Reed in every way.

I love this design too. I think it was originally produced at the English National Opera at the Coliseum.
Fantastic
Someone please upload the finale of this show. Heather accidentally knocks Dennis down and has to stop she is laughing so hard.

This is actually the Australian Opera, but Dennis Olsen was John Reed's understudy in the D'Oyly Carte for a while.

@@sKid-gh9ub thank you for that information. I wish I had followed Gilbert & Sullivan more enthusiastically over the years.
