You got some nice shots. I have the same combo, mirrorless on a budget with the A6000 and this lens is worth the price and a very light carry around. I also have a Nikon P950, it's a great bridge camera with a super zoom, but lacks the optics of this setup. Glad I found this video, thanks -
I just got this lens with the same A6000, any tips for sharper photos? It seems like yours have come out quite nice. I've been shooting birds in the backyard and they don't seem to be near as sharp at 350, but i'm sure it's settings/technique. I've only been shooting for a few months, but I appreciate the video. For someone with this exact setup, it was nice to find to confirm I need to practice and work more.
Just make sure your shutter speed is at least set to 1/800th. Birds move pretty quick, that mixed with micro jitters from your hands can cause photos to turn out not as sharp as they can be. Even if you have to underexpose a little to get that fast shutter speed, much easier to fix a dark image then a blurry one!
Thanks a lot! I have a Sony a6000 and I was wondering if renting this lens could help me for wildlife photography on my next trip. You helped me answer the question ☺️
If mobility is what your looking for then i think the 70-350 is definitely one of the best. Its really not that heavy of a lens so its not to draining to walk around with all day. Definitely not the range of the 150-600. But i still enjoy what 350mm offers.
Hey there, great video and nice shooting. I've have the same lens and camera. Any chance we can view your photos online? I would like to compare my shots with yours, because I am not sure about the sharpness of my pics.
Nice video! Currently want to buy my first prime lens and I wanna know how much you payed for your 70-350mm? Right now the price is at 680 EUR and honestly I think it can't go lower than that:)) Thanks!
I bought the 70-350 pretty soon after it was first released, i paid just under $1000 canadian dollars for it. I do agree i think it's price has leveled out and probably won't go down any further! It's an amazing lens and i think it's worth every dollar!
Hey mate, it's a great lens to get. Just wanted to clarify some terminology for you. A "Prime Lens" is a lens with a fixed focal length, for example 35mm. Not a lens with a variable focal length.
Nice! good choice! I always shoot in Raw with auto white balance. Focus area is set to wide and use continous af. Sometimes i also use flexible spot af if theres things like tree branches in the way! Thats about it really!
Are the photos overlayed on the screen edited or raw? Would be cool to see the raw photos if they are edited in a different variation of video. Great work!!
Hey everyone! Im looking to do a video where you submit your photos to me and I edit them! You can send me 1 unedited photo (raw/jpg) and also tell me a little about yourself and your instagram name! Ive always wanted to do a video like this so I cant wait to see what you send me! Send photos to photos4patrickedit@gmail.com
Those are two different lenses. It clearly depends on what you want to shoot. If you want a zoom lens 55-210 is okay, but i would go for the 70 350. for 50mm Prime, obviously the sigma 1.4 dc dn, you could also buy a samyang. For just 85 bucks you can also get a 7artisan 1.8 which is manual but a good budget lens
Thankyou! Yes other hikers come around with feed for the birds. They will land in your hand if you are holding feed so its a pretty popular spot! The birds (and squirrels) eat well!
I use an a6000 and 55-210mm kit sony lens and I just can't auto focus, it will only sharpen lets say the eye of the bird and none of the feathers. I also as a result manual focus and lose my shot half the time as bird has flown away. How is the a6400 with the 70-350mm focus and the sharpess of getting the whole body of a bird?
The 70-350mm is a much sharper lens in therms of clarity. Also focuses faster than the 55-210mm. But what are you describing, seems like a different thing. If you can't get the whole bird in focus, it usually means two things. The bird is too close to you, or the bird it's not parallel to you, or maybe both. With a telephoto lens, if these things happen, when you focus very close to the lens, the depth of field is so narrow, only a part of you subject will be in focus, just as it happens with a very fast F1.4 or F1.2 lens. Make sure your subject is not extremely close, and if there is enough light, use a smaller aperture like F8 or F10.
Do you still have this lense and is it clean still? Expensive lenses that breath kinda freak me out, not sure if it’s possible to clean it after years of use.
The photos are impressively sharp. How did you mount your GoPro to the body? I love taking birds photos during a hike. Did you turn OSS on, and did you use shutter priority? It seems your focus was really fast, normally I have to manually adjust the focus area, because there are branches in front of the bird.
Thankyou! I use a peak design capture clip to attach my gopro to my backpack. For this i was in full manual, shutter priority wouldve worked fine as well. Full manual is just what im use to when i shoot. For birds i find using the flexible spot auto focus can be a good way to go, especially when there's branches like you said!
@Saif Aldin I usually start by taking a couple test shots of the area, ill keep my iso at 100. Then i set the shutter speed. For this shoot i knew birds were going to be moving quick, so i wanted a faster shutter speed. Ill set my shutter speed to double my focal range. 350mm would be like 1/700th roughly. Then ill set my iso until im just a little over exposed. Then i increase shutter speed again to bring the exposure back down to even. So now that i have even exposure of my scene, with a fast shutter speed. If i need to readjust my exposure. I can bring down my shutter speed because im set faster then what i need to capture my subject. So i can brighten it up by reducing the shutter speed, and i cant make it darker by increasing it. It makes it so i don't have to mess with to many settings all at once. Only have to worry about shutter speed.
@@PatrickS. That makes sense. Will try that next time. Thank you for your reply. I usually shoot on aperture priority, with ‘auto ISO min SS’ set to a custom button. I also have a button set to ‘memory recall hold’ - this one for tracking moving birds (Shutter priority w tracking AF and burst mode enabled)
You have a Sony which is known for Good Video output. Please upload Videos of Birds instead of Photo Slides. i know that the reach is limited to 350mm if you can get a used as new Sony 200-600mm it will go a long way for Bird and Wild Life Photography. Cheers!

Definitely the image on 7:25. The sharpness is superb, the alignment is soothing and the bird stands out

Beautiful pictures and that creamy bokeh it's superb!

Thinking about getting this lens. Today i use an 150-600 but have been looking for something smaller and more mobile...
