  • In Cytology; Part 1 Professor Fink describes The Cell Theory; explains the Limits of Cell Growth (Surface Area to Volume Relationship); defines Prokaryotic versus Eukaryotic Cells; and describes the structure & function of the Cell Membrane. The role of the Phospholipid bilayer and the roles of embedded Protein are presented, including as Ion Channels, Transporter (Carrier) Proteins, Enzymes, Receptor Sites and Glycoprotein Recognition Sites (Cell Identity Markers; MHC proteins). Reference is also made to "Self" versus "Foreign" and Auto-Immune Diseases.

    Professor Fink, I just wanted to comment by saying that I'm absolutely astonished by your teaching skills and am super thankful for letting other people learn by sharing your lectures. As a student who comes from a pretty poor background and cannot afford classes to train for the medical entrance exam where I'm living, these videos have been a life savor for me! I wish you all the best there is.

    I took biological science at Cuesta College , I thought I was too old to learn any more or I was stupid that I could not understand what teacher saying untill I saw professor Fink on youtube , I realized that I'm not stupid. He is wonderful . One day I will go there and take his classes . Thank you so much professor Fink

    Professor Fink your videos are so so helpful!! My only comment would be maybe in the description box, you could put each subject beside the coinciding time that the subject is talked about in the video (ex. Enzymes- 1:34) as sometimes I only need to watch certain content of a video. Thank you so much for uploading this amazing content onto youtube!

    Excellent lecture. I do have a comment concerning the example you gave regarding the food intake upon our cells. "When you eat that hamburger, french fries and chocolate malt, or coca cola, it's all digested into these nutrients." I find it a bit misleading to associate these non nutrient dense foods with a positive outcome with our cell's health. That may not be your field of study regarding diet however I think it would be a good idea to associate more nutrient dense and healthier food examples to the students.

    • @professorfink
      @professorfink  6 лет назад +2

      You are correct, Joshua. If you eat food high in carbs (sugars) or fats (fatty acids), it is different HEALTH-WISE than eating food high in proteins (amino acids) or "fiber" (cellulose). My point was that whatever you eat does NOT affect your blood type or eye color, which are determined genetically. Furthermore, a vegetarian does not become a "vegetable" because you do NOT "become what you eat." Thank you for your comment. -- professor fink

    Great lectures. You mention 60 trillion cells, but the figure I hear alot is 37.2 trillion cells in the body. Which number is it and how do researchers go about calculating such an enormous number of cells?

    • @professorfink
      @professorfink  2 года назад +1

      The number of cells in the human body is not known. You can find a broad range of estimates in the scientific literature. The number you suggest [37 trillion] seems to be the "favored" estimate at this time. Here are a few articles about estimating the number:

    According to cell theory " cell is d offspring of a pre-existing cell". Bt my qes. is how d 1st cell was appeared??????

    • @professorfink
      @professorfink  6 лет назад

      Evolutionary Theory proposes that the first cells formed in warm shallow seas filled with an "organic soup" of monomer & polymer organic compounds.

    • @tanmayabirtia2504
      @tanmayabirtia2504 6 лет назад

      professorfink sir means 1st cell was not a offspring of pre-existing cell. Then how cell theory is correct??

  • @nick1f

    About people who are chimeras - how come their bodies do not reject the foreign tissue, that has a different DNA? Do those different cells have identical glycoproteins? If not, perhaps their lymphocytes are learning to identify as "friends" the different types of glycoproteins? Wouldn't the study of such people help some discoveries in the field of organ rejection?
