  • Architects always look for software that combine, Ease of use, speed, and
realistic renders to finish their projects, it is the last step of a hard and long process but it can be the most important one, it has to be perfect and it has to reflect reality so that the client would have a vivid idea about his project and how it will turn out to be in the end, some of the most known software for rendering are lumion and Vray so which one is better for rendering your projects?

2nd-year architecture student here. I have briefly both used both rendering software. While I agree Lumion is quicker to learn and operate, an issue not really mentioned is the system requirements of both softwares. Lumion requires a ton of RAM as well as a top-notch graphics card and screen resolution. If your laptop doesn't meet the requirements it can end up freezing when using Lumion. V-ray has lower system requirements hence is much less of a drain on your laptop’s performance.

I do vray for 10 years and recently started using lumion for exterior projects and it takes me 4 hours from start to finish and two more hours for like 10 8k renderings. The quality is never even close to vray but it's really good enough for the time and effort spend. The thing I currently hate is that it gives you a wide angle as default and if you want to achieve a bit more orthographic angle like at least 60mm it treats the models and especially grass as if they're really far away and doesn't render them properly. I have to sacrifice the looks for that reason. Hopefully they fixed that in the 11th version

To me vray is the best realistic render. The problem is that it takes forever to render an image. U really need a powerful computer and I have a good one but then when u modify your image u have to wait forever for another render of your image. That is frustrating. And I am talking about images. Forget it if u want to render videos. Lumion is quite the opposite. Images and render are really fast and most important of all, Lumion is EASY TO USE AND MODIFY. And in V-Ray you can't animate, only if you use a 3D animation software, in Lumion you can.

@@xayala like you can use it, but, you will wait so long for a render, we are talking about hours, ill try to use 3dmax instead with no gpu.

I used lumion on my 1050ti in my previous laptop ,i7 8th gen with 16gb of ram. It works okay except for rendering clips , it'll consume too much time so try your best to avoid that. Otherwise , day to day task would be just fine.
