For me the biggest differentiator is the app. Google Home is a mess with everything randomly scattered around every nook and cranny they could shove something into. Definitely a drunken layout. Amazon's, while not perfect, is a lot more user friendly and organized. Also, there's the "Hey Google" and "Alexa" wake word differences. "Hey Google" is just...weird. Every other company with an assistant understands that the company's ego shouldn't take precedent over the customer experience. That's why you don't wake any other assistant up with "Hey Amazon," "Hey Microsoft", "Hey Apple", etc.
I want one to replace my clock. Should I get the Google home hub or the Amazon show 5? I use Amazon music and Google play music and Napster. I can not makeup my mind. Please help. I also would occasionally use Bluetooth.
We have 1 Google device in the house and 3 Amazon devices. We all prefer the Amazon device. I have ordered my self the show 5 as been thinking of getting the spot but didn't want to spend the money on it.
Craig Glass the eco show 5 is the best personally I found it cheaper than the eco show 2 and now there are lot of discounts on amazon . The eco dot 2 is half the price
I have 7 echos/dots, a google nest hub, and 2 minis. Amazon wins for "menial" tasks and questions (lights, thermostat, weather, time, alarms, timers, reminders, etc.) but Google is WAY out front for intelligently showing photos from Google Photos, especially with the advent of LIVE photo albums (google it). Plus, no annoying mandatory "try this" garbage on the Google screen. Google also wins for providing answers to nearly all questions and understanding the questions I ask. And then of course there's RUclips. So for me, there is a place for both.

The audio out port is great. I am still upset I can't connect my Google Home Hub to my Home Max so the videos, queries, etc, all get piped through a good, loud speaker.
I already own 3 Echo Shows. 2 are 1st gen and 1 is a 2nd gen. However I found a sweet deal for a Google Home Hub for sale on Rakuten’s site a few weeks ago for $89.99. I know that is not the typical price and that is why I bought it. So I have both systems in my home. I wonder if Amazon saw that pricing and decided it made sense to price their new device similarly. The Hub is a beautiful photo album. But I use my Echoes for everything else.
I have both but use the amazon echos much more - I have photos stored on amazon and can see my photos on my echo show, also I have videos stored in my amazon cloud space and can watch my favourite short music videos through amazon too, by asking alexa to show my photos :)
I'm a google person but I will get the show five for my night stand to use. It's better than the lenovo smart clock and cheaper than the nst hub. I can still control my home devices with it and google assistant. Only way I would buy the nest hub is if it was the same price. I would get the smart clock if it was $60 or less.
I run a HomeKit mixed with Alexa home and this new Show 5 is night stand size. I’d rock an Echo Spot if they dropped the last of them down to ~$49. Just want a really nice clock with Alexa in it.
The Lenovo smart clock is actually a full smart display, and not just a clock. It has an 800x480 resolution display. Which is smaller than this new Echo 5. Plus the Echo 5 is more similar to Lenovo's smart clock in size and looks. Not to mention price as well.
I pre ordered one. I’ve been wanting a small screen device to view my Ring video doorbell. This is perfect, and the price is right. I’m a big echo person anyway. I have the original echo and 3 of the newest generation echo dots. All mainly to play music. I have a prime account plus the upgraded Music service from Amazon. I’m with you! I think the echo dot s dead. Why would anyone pay $129 for one of those when you can get this for $89?
I think it depends on your needs. both systems are good but each excels at different things. you really need to research each system, what they hook up to, apps you might want to use or are already using that will integrate with the systems. I use Amazon and am very happy with it. Alexa though still doesn't answer all questions satisfactorily yet, whereas google does. Amazon though has many more skills which work with it - you really need to do research - try their webpages and read up on their products and abilities...
If you're an Android user and prefer Google apps, which Amazon really don't have any 'real' alternatives to (like there is no 'Amazon photos' to compete with Google photos), you're most probably better off with Google's ecosystem of products and services.
i'm in on the amazon echo system but i think the home assistants with screens are better suited to google's ecosystem, especially if you're an android user because of all the tie ins with the services you already use... not to mention youtube. the echo show in any variant just doesn't offer any service i'd want a screen for (at that small size).

She wants a recipe, the echo show has a more comprehensive catalogue of recipes. The demographic this device is aimed at can live without RUclips as RUclips might spoil the kitchen experience with constant notifications and besides, if a stay at home mom wants to watch RUclips, her phone is there. But I dont think they spend much time on RUclips as it sucks time away bcos stay at home moms tend to be busy in the home. I saw a review of the echo show on RUclips by a stay at home mom. I cant remember her channel. I dont think she has one. And what she said is basically what was in my mind. I think the echo show will sell more than google bcos it,s perfect for it,s intended for. I dont see someone like jamerrill Stewart , a stay at home mom with 8 kids, watching a lot of RUclips videos. She,ll likely be watching recipe videos. The echo show is tailor made for people like her.

Even if these devices lose money in the short term, they are essentially a gateway drug to an ever expanding ecosystem of products and services for these companies. For eg, if you purchase a Google Nest hub, you're not only buying that particular product, there's a greater chance that you complement it with buying a home mini, then, probably a home Max. How about a nest cam? A nest hello doorbell? A Pixel phone? How about a Pixelbook? It just doesn't stop there with hardware, it even more easily translates to services like how about paying for RUclips music when listening to songs on Google home or paying for RUclips TV through Nest Hub Max. Google is definitely targeting all these products as such which Apple has so elegantly done successfully.
echo spot is an alarm clock, thats its niche i like the clock, and i don't want the square one in my kitchen, i won't buy the big show i'll get the 5 :), oh and i use a google home in my study because I like it and its cool :)

For me the physical camera shutter is the biggest differentiator and probably the deciding factor for me.

I don't think sound quality will be as good. 1x 4w speaker as opposed to 2x 10w speakers in the 10 inch show

The show 5 only has a 1 inch 4W speaker. Even the Dot has a 1.6 Inch speaker... Why such crappy sound?
