The #5 team did run the full schedule in 2011. After Kvapil was axed, the team merged with Germain Racing, and Todd Bodine drove the truck for the rest of the year. The truck was fielded by Germain, while the equipment was provided by RMM.
Setzer actually finished second in Truck points three straight years, including the 2003 season with its infamous finale - when the dust settled, he lagged Kvapil by nine points. NINE.
I remember 2003, good season marred by that infamous Homestead finale thanks to Ultra’s shenanigans. Was glad Bobby Hamilton won. I was also glad that he won the championship the next year in trucks. I miss SPEED Channel so much.
One of the more unexpected team owners that I can remember was Terry Bradshaw owning a Bush series team, I can still remember that supercuts car to this day
@@johnathonkelley5234 No, it was part of a raceteam I believe they were called Fitz-Bradshaw Racing. They probably got engine support from RCR since Kerry was driving...
Looking back, it's interesting to see how many NASCAR teams in the '90s and 2000s that were co-owned by NFL guys, albeit short-lived stints. The Joe Gibbs Effect, if you will. You had Elliott Marino Racing (1998), Jarrett Favre Motorsports (1999-2000), Fitz Bradshaw Racing (Bradshaw co-owned the team from 2002 until his departure in 2006) , and Mark Rypien Motorsports (1993-1997; co-owned by Greg Pollex, who sold the team to Roush, and would eventually start a new Busch team without Rypien, PPC Racing).
Dan Marino, Brett Favre, Troy Aikman, Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw are other NFL icons who've had stake in NASCAR teams. Former NFL coach Jerry Glanville was actually an owner/driver.
I remember Dan Marino co-owning a car with someone else and Jerry Nadeau being the driver. Also remember Troy Aikman co-owning a short-lived team with TI DLP as the sponsor.
@adgibson82 yeah he had the 94 and I don't remember what the other team number was with Jerry N I think they only ran for like a season and a half and then they dropped the second team when Bill Elliott originally formed the 94 team he had a partner in the project as well before he took complete control of the team I don't remember the guy's name though
@adgibson82 like most teams that have multiple teams they had to do with testing information that's the big reason I remember one Richard Childress with Dale Earnhardt added Mike Skinner at one time
I remember watching part of the 2008 Trucks race at Bristol that Jimmie Johnson ran in. I believe he could've had a shot at the win if the truck didn't break loose on him
Emmitt Smith had a widely failed attempt just a few years ago. Staubach and Aikman at HOF Motorsports. They were just figure heads, but that was also a failed attempt.

Nah. Before this, we had Elliott-Marino Racing and Jarrett/Favre Motorsports. When you think about it, 23XI's inception completed the trifecta of driver-ball sport co-owner teams. Elliott-Marino = NASCAR + MLB Jarrett-Favre = NASCAR + NFL Hamlin=Jordan = NASCAR + NBA
Several former NFL players have become or attempted to become team owners. In 2000, former Ohio State QB Mike Tomzcak (sp???) co-owned a Busch team, car 0 sponsored by Ohio State. I forgot the driver. And asked why Moss became a team owner, he said, where I'm from, everyone likes racing.
Who are the most unique and odd team owners you can think of?
Tristar Motorsports, the team paulie harraka owned
Remember when Dan Marino co-owned a Cup team with Bill Elliott for a year?
Jackie Joyner-Kersee w/ Kurt Roehrig
Roger Staubach & Troy Aikman’s HOF Racing
Michael Jordan
Prayers up to randy moss who is dealing with liver cancer and i forgot he owned a nascar team back then
Nothing else needs to be said ^^^
Indeed. Hope God blesses him and helps him through this. And I wish the best for him.

He doesn't have cancer according to his son

I don't know much about Football or Randy Moss, but all my prayers goes out to him, his family and friends. Cancer sucks.
One of the greatest player ever to not win a Super Bowl.. Sorry he couldn't get that ring in February 2008 with my Patriots.
What could've been.

Kerry Earnhardt drove for him in that car at one point...
You mean the 12? I thought RCR owned that car.

Prayers up for Randy🙏🏾 been waiting for someone to talk ab his time in NASCAR

Yeah Dan Marino co-owned a car that our team for a while with Bill Elliott

Dan Marino (#13)
James finch and he still owns cars and teams I believe and his kid is definitely a up and coming hot shoe

If RMM understood what a contract meant, Skinner would have never left
23XI before 23XI...famous athlete car owner, uses his own number on race vehicle, just no established driver co owner.
@crystaljon you're right

I wish he would’ve raced too.
Ikr would've been interesting.
he had a dirt late model team he raced in local stuff. not him but someone else. my sister went to school with him actually lol
straight cash homie. god bless RM
I had no idea about this
The weird one for me was Dan Marino in 1998

Much better content than the guy named after a fruit
Didn’t Alvin kamara start a xfinity team
Tristar racing
How bout Thee Dixon
Randy was no different from any of the other Sports Superstar owners. Lost interest real quick and took the team down with him.
Is there a NASCAR rule about not covering the car in Baby Oil to reduce drag? That's what comes to mind when you said "SuperFreak" car owner.
Yeah I was thinking oh no a car owner with Diddy connections...bad enough Brian Vickers' wife was Epstein's secretary...
I thought it was Diddy 😂😂
