  • In this Range Report I get the opportunity to review the new Daniel H9 from Daniel Defense and compare it to the original Hudson H9. This is a pistol that is a modernization of the original which I think has a few compromises built in. Like all other Daniel Defense firearms this pistol seems well built and high quality. Does this pistol stand out compared to the Hudson H9? This video documents my personal thoughts, opinions and experiences this firearm. Yours may vary.

Several others have reported accuracy issues and even some key holing. At roughly $1200-1300 I don’t think that’s acceptable.

I agree. There seems to be something wrong.

Completely agree. I shot 100 rounds through the DD H9 at my range, which rents it, and I can confirm that I show low as well. You can correct by "lollipopping" the sights, if you know what I mean. But why should anyone have to do that when they're paying $1300?

Sorry about the accuracy issues you’ r experienced. I’ve got 1k downrange as of last week without any failures. And I had feeding and slide lock back issues during dry fire so I was pleasantly surprised. Super accurate. At least mine has been. Wasn’t a big fan of the trigger but warmed up after the first 200 or so downrange. Short tactile reset. Wouldn’t compare it to an actual hammer fired 1911 trigger by any means. But aside from maybe the pdps it’s on the upper end of striker triggers. Only gripes I have are the plate system and the cheap feeling “mock grip safety”. I believe they call it the “upper back strap.” Has a wiggle to it and bites the knuckle of your thumb. Outside of that I think DD did a bang up job on the Hudson reboot overall.

I'm sure DD will listen to owner feedback. They are a great outfit.

Great review I think youre spot on with your rating. I shot a couple boxes through my range's rental and i didnt like it. I thought the trigger felt mushy and almost bullpup like. Defintiely not worth the price tag in my opinion.

    I like mine.
Accuracy better than what you shot.
Trigger takes some getting used to as it’s a bit heavier than what I want.
No function problems. Very comfortable grip too. I’m waiting for plate for red dot. They are way behind on shipping that.

Overall I love the H9. Mine has the common issue of not wanting to eject a live round and I have had the slide lock back on a loaded mag a few times, (possibly me hitting the slide lock?)
Mine also shoots low and possibly the trigger is giving me some accuracy issues too. I shoot all my other pistols much more accurate. but I can mag dump and double tap very quick while staying on target with the H9, it is very soft and flat. I love the grip and how it points. my main issue is the few hiccups I have experienced along with the nightmare of issues others have had the seed of doubt has been planted and I will not be carrying the H9. so for now its just a fun novelty and I might even try to sell it and revisit the H9 in the future. sad because its a perfect carry size and for me the 1911 grip feels at home in the hand. not to mention no one else is offering a true slim 1911 grip that's double stacked!

Good video thanks. I semi recall the original H9, but wasn't overly interested in it at the time. Once this was released I got very interested in the hybrid style of pistol this is, but I have held back since this is a first pistol offering. I'm glad so far as multiple reports of accuracy issues, high trigger pull weights, and optic plate issues have come to light. I'm glad this product exists and will likely try it or acquire one in the future, but I'm not rushing out to purchase just yet. Perhaps I'll follow your approach if they release additional options or a mod 2 or upgrades maybe I'll purchase one of those. Steel frame could be very interesting guess we will see what is offered.

I never held one but when looking at it up close in your video here, it looks cheaply made and not robust at all like a CZ P10. I like guns that are robust and duty-service.

Good morning, Jason, I watched Shot Show with the many reviews of the Daniel H9. And I don't think there was a negative comment. I heard from one reviewer that Daniel Defence had purchased the rights to the Hudson, which was obviously great for the original owners. I like the look of the pistol, it's a bit out there but it's almost 1911ish. I am interested in knowing what the barrel length is. Because here in Oz we need a 120mm/4.72441 barrel length to meet the requirements set by our gun laws. Cheers Oops, I just did a google search and the barrel is 4.28inches or 100.668mm which means a small barrel extension is needed to be compliant with our laws. Love your channel. Double Cheers

Mmm. This is not an enticing look for DD, imo. The most important function of a firearm is accuracy. A well-polished and shaped machine is great -- if it serves its intended purpose well.

  • @Gojeto346

DD is going down the shitter. Just like every other company resting on their laurels from the 90’s. I’d rather buy 5 Daggers from PSA and have them all work just fine than drop $1300 on a single gun and have it keyhole. DD really shit the bed on this one and continue to shit it by not publicly addressing these issues, because of that I just can’t trust them as a brand anymore.

    • @thetexasgunvault

Meh, overhyped firearm platform. So many firearm companies trying to eliminate recoil, or better said, "felt recoil" want to eliminate or reduce recoil? Grip the firearm correctly and get your hands as high as possible as close to the bore and you'll see how much felt recoil improves....Thank me later! :)

I would also like to point out that I shoot my H&K VP40, which is 40 S&W, way more accurate than any other pistol. And I have shot many. The trigger out of the box is 4 pounds and the reset is incredibly short. Most accurate pistol I have shot to date. I’m 60 years old and have been shooting since I was 10.
