The official head was also just a hole in the ground. Snafu could have just covered his job with dirt, washed his hands, and enjoyed his privacy.

You're missing the point. The official head was not to prevent dysentry cases altogether, but to limit the spread of them. Five or six cases per company of 150-200 Marines was a hell of a lot better than the whole company out of action due to dysentry. It's called "Damage Limitation".

I love reading the comments for these old timey shorts. As a relative young'un here, I just assumed the Burma Shave joke was some kind of nickname for how soldiers who strayed too far from base camp got singled out by the enemy. Instead, I learned it was one of the most interesting ad campaigns ever.

@@farpointgamingdirect Actually, Mel Blanc sometimes voices the Elmer and Elmer's actual derby hatted squinty-eyed Prototype (the first only prototype that doesn't have a big egg-shaped head or huge eyes) in the 1930's (only in Fred "Tex' Avery's 6 cartoons, such as "Little Red Walking Hood" (which is actually Prototype-Elmer's first cartoon from 1937) "The Isle of Pingo Pongo" (made in 1937 and released in 1938) "A Feud There was" (from 1938) "Johnny Smith and Poker-Huntas" (from 1938) Hamateur Night" (made in 1938 and released in 1939) and A Day at the Zoo" (made in 1938 and released in 1939)) 40's (in some cartoons even with Arthur Q, Brian), 50's (in some cartoons with Arthur Q, Brian) 60 (sometimes), 1970's (sometimes) and 1980's (sometimes). Mel Blanc voiced both Elmer Fudd and the other similar character, Egghead, who were actually created by Tex Avey as two co-existing separate characters in 1937. Egghead actually appeared in only 4 cartoons, "Egghead Rides Again" (from 1937), "Daffy Duck and Egghead" (made in 1937 and released in 1938), "A Lad-in Bagdad" (from 1938), and "Count Me Out" (from 1938). Mel only voices Egghead in "Egghead Rides Again" (in most voice acting roles) and even in "Daffy Duck and Egghead", only where egghead is yelling "woo-hoo" while jumping up and down after he finally captures daffy, but Danny Webb voices Egghead talking throughout the cartoon. Here is more proof to what I said, it is all from Eliza's Animation Amalgamation Website (daffydoodles.blogspot.com/2020/07/the-eggheadelmer-debacle.html) and also from in The Evolution of Elmer Fudd and Egghead video by Dave Lee Down Under (ruclips.net/video/ivl9m3Z2CuQ/видео.html).
