    If you get dysentery, the LAST things you need are castor oil and an enema....
    What you'll really need is a cork, to keep your guts from shooting out!

      Well, not necessarily. See, dreams are more about representation than reflection. The castor oil, for example, could be the representation of our soldier puking his brains out. Now, I never tasted castor oil (thank God), but from what I see and hear, it tastes HORRIBLE! Anytime I see somebody forced to take some, they more than likely puke it back up.
      Now, as for the enema; well, let's just say that there was a reason it emptied out in an instant.

    I remember hearing that most soldiers actually didn't bother to carry a mess gear, due to nose it makes and not to mention that many soldiers were eat nothing, but K ration for weeks also lack of clean water on the front lines made it an health hazard.

    I remember when I was 11 years old in the Boy Scouts on a campout Jamboree. My father was one of the Scout masters assistants. He was both a WWII and Korean War vet. Anyways we all ate out of our Boy Scout mess kits. Afterwards, my dad showed how we could clean the kit with gravel and light dirt. Other fathers came by and said they had learned the same thing. However, the head people did not like that idea, and so we went back and cleaned them again with good old soap and water.

      I've got a good knockoff of this mess gear. Just for the fun of it, for about a month, I used it exclusively. I cook, but my relations always try to feed me. So, I broke out the mess kit!

    • @nottherealpaulsmith
      @nottherealpaulsmith Год назад +2

      ideally you'd always have access to clean water, i think if you don't then you have far bigger problems than cleaning your mess gear
      with clean water and no soap, you can put your gear over a good fire and let it get red hot (the key is to KEEP it hot, let it go for at least 30 minutes), then quench it
      not quite an autoclave, but it's a good stopgap until you can get some soap or disinfectant
