- U.S. Navy animated training film by Hugh Harman Productions. Features the character Private McGillicuddy. Used to train U.S. Marines to clean their mess gear properly and the consequences of eating from dirty mess gear.
If you get dysentery, the LAST things you need are castor oil and an enema....
What you'll really need is a cork, to keep your guts from shooting out!
Well, not necessarily. See, dreams are more about representation than reflection. The castor oil, for example, could be the representation of our soldier puking his brains out. Now, I never tasted castor oil (thank God), but from what I see and hear, it tastes HORRIBLE! Anytime I see somebody forced to take some, they more than likely puke it back up.
Now, as for the enema; well, let's just say that there was a reason it emptied out in an instant.
I remember hearing that most soldiers actually didn't bother to carry a mess gear, due to nose it makes and not to mention that many soldiers were eat nothing, but K ration for weeks also lack of clean water on the front lines made it an health hazard.
I remember when I was 11 years old in the Boy Scouts on a campout Jamboree. My father was one of the Scout masters assistants. He was both a WWII and Korean War vet. Anyways we all ate out of our Boy Scout mess kits. Afterwards, my dad showed how we could clean the kit with gravel and light dirt. Other fathers came by and said they had learned the same thing. However, the head people did not like that idea, and so we went back and cleaned them again with good old soap and water.
That was entertaining. Loved the Japanese fly skating in the pan.
Still valid info today.
even Private Snafu wears a mask!
Considering showing this one to my kids...
I've got a good knockoff of this mess gear. Just for the fun of it, for about a month, I used it exclusively. I cook, but my relations always try to feed me. So, I broke out the mess kit!
50 gallon enemas are scary
4:23 Lord have mercy! 50 gallons of enema?! May god have mercy on McGillicuddy's soul when his ass screams all that saline out!!
You're an Acosta but acts like a Winston
Lastog at bobo
Food safety - a bit archaic but I like it.
what a hell of a colonic
How did someone like McGillicuddy make it through Marine boot camp?
I think he must be related to Pvt. Snafu.
@@barrncat I think McGillicuddy and Private Snafu are cousins
Just plain dumb luck.
Ah my friend, but you are forgetting what the Acrynom MARINE stands for.
Muscles Are Required, Intelligence Not Expected
I know he seems too smart to be a marine, but they made an exception because he scored so high on the physical assessments.
This always reminds me that the marines were considered navy
I thought this was Private SNAFU for a moment XD
That’s exactly right William!!!!!! Send it to me William I’ll clean all your mess kits!!!!!!
Lived happily ever after 🤣
Sounds like Mel Blanc narration.
He did a lot of work for these
Reminds me of Private SNAFU.
With snafu his decisions are only stupid a while after he does it, but with McGillicuddy his actions are immediately stupid and almost enough for him to earn a Darwin Award
Q. WHO, even way back in the 40's would be stupid enough to not CLEAN UP his fork, plate, etc. ?????????
A: Spoiled brats who were drafted
A : A person who does not know there is germs and they been told 100 time through school and in the army
You’d be surprised how dumb people can be. Heck, these types of cartoons were designed specifically for draftees who couldn’t read.
this is a Marine Corps cartoon, if that answers it for you
Snafu but marines
How do you you clean your kit in the field if you have no hot soap and water?
ideally you'd always have access to clean water, i think if you don't then you have far bigger problems than cleaning your mess gear
with clean water and no soap, you can put your gear over a good fire and let it get red hot (the key is to KEEP it hot, let it go for at least 30 minutes), then quench it
not quite an autoclave, but it's a good stopgap until you can get some soap or disinfectant
@@nottherealpaulsmith 30 minutes into the fire, getting it red hot,are you sure.
I saw many aluminum pots melting by then
WW2 Gi Chow....good wholesome food. Tee hee
Yeah it's funny. Right up to YOUR case of dysentery!
Snafu never got anything right .
Not the right choice of video with my dinner
When you licking a plate, you put in it you own microbes. How that can harm you? By the way, is better wash your hand when you go in toilet.
Cutting edge sanitation advice from finland thanks
@@BigboiiTone In Finnish army were not any special treatment for mess kits in war. In peace time they put plastic bag in it for need not washing it.
@@jarikinnunen1718 Hopefully the colder weather kept bacteria growth to the minimum!
@@BigboiiTone +30 to -40 C vary by seasons.
That's disgusting! Do your gut at least feel like knots in a wet rope? That's food borne illness! You wanna end you like McGillicuddy?!
