You really nailed it with your intuition and analysis when it came to her brother, it really did feel like, somewhere deep down he wasn't into this. He was born into that weird messed up family, but the fact he at least wasn't even trying to put up a fake nice act, and he seemed like he abused substances, these signs seem to also indicate that deep down he's not into this stuff, maybe subconsciously.

When I was getting my bachelors back in the ‘80s, I took a feminist lit class that was specifically sci-fI/fantasy written by women, with occasional internal horror stories like The Yellow Wallpaper, and it was one of my favorite lit courses. Introduced me to one of my all-time favorite writers, CL Moore.

@@kathyastrom1315 This is (obviously) a master's course, but you're right. If you wind up in the right literature course - with the right professor - then the course can be phenomenal. Last semester, for example, I took a course on dystopian fiction and wound up writing my final research paper about Neuromancer and how the world is showing signs of being a cyberpunk dystopia right now. (I wound up buying other William Gibson books and have The Peripheral on my TBR pile, and I hope to get to it this summer.)
It's my goal to use parts (not all) of what I learn and somehow implement it into my own classroom at some point as I work on becoming the English teacher I always wanted to have.

The only thing that irked me was “I want your eye, man”. Not only did it sound just weird and off. It doesn’t really make sense. Unless the artist is dumb. Being a photographer isn’t about sight. 20 people can take A photo of the same thing and only a talented person will angle it right and see the right things. He showed that himself, by being an art dealer while being blind. Art and photography isn’t simple like that. It would have been better if he said “eyes”.

Greeting from Toronto, Canada! Great reaction Devin! After watching this movie multiple times you notice a lot of things the probing questions to Chris about his health and physical activity, the fact that Chris's girlfriend was looking through the reflection of the glass at other black men to target in the future. In order to save himself from slavery/bondage he had to pick cotton, and even more interesting the scene with the cop...she defended Chris because if the cop put his license information in the system it would have left a paper trail for someone to follow.

    9:00 - That's the thing with hypnosis:
    1) It only works on "receptive" people.
People who are Greatly receptive represent ~5%
People who are Moderately receptive: ~70%
People who are Minimally receptive: ~25%
    2) People under hypnosis *cannot* be suggested or convinced to perform actions or say things against their will. As soon as the brain enters in a state of cognitive dissonance, the person regain consciousness.
Not to say that there aren't methods to inject intentions, ideas or beliefs to "program" and condition someone's subconscious (i.e. the Manchurian candidate) but it requires the perfect subject, methods, conditions, drugs and time.

One thing that I found interesting about this movie is the hidden details or things you just wouldn’t notice if someone didn’t mention it. Someone mentioned that the reason the girlfriend is so quick to defend him from the police that was acting weird was not because she thought it was racist but because then they would probably be more likely to remember him and who he was last with once he is reported missing.

I'm disabled, so I'm usually surrounded by abled people, and when I do run into someone else who is disabled, there's a sense of a connection. I think it's just that we don't often know if a stranger has anything in common with us, but if you see someone who is part of your "group" you can at least know you have that in common, and likely had had similar experiences in that regard. So you have more of an understanding with one another that you might not have so quickly with someone from a different "group." :)

Man, you make 100% sense, clicking with people of the same race.... the same life experiuences. Sometimes similar experiences can cross spcifics. For example, about 30 years ago I was in downtown Seattle, and I asked this nice-looking old white woman what the time was. She gave me a look like I'd crawled out from under a rock and said, "Get away from me you dirty stinking Cambodian!" (I'm of Chinese decent, born in the USA). A black man who was near my age was standing a couple of feet behind her. He looked at me and I looked at him, and in that instant, I KNOW he knew exactly how I felt even though we didn't say a word. I was then, and am still now thankful to this day for that moment of human connection, despite the unfortunate circumstances. BTW, I hold zero ill will toward that old women--for all I know her husband or son was killed in Viet Nam or something; regardless, she couldn't hurt me or prevent me from achieving my dreams... she was just a sad/angry old lady and I feel sorry for her.

I have felt the same way 😢
As an Italian/white woman. I’ve worked in jobs where I was the minority. I’ve experienced judgement. And not being accepted. It’s sad and I wish people who feel that way can grow and I hope society can grow. Life is so short so it’s such a waste for such things.
I think people should watch a certain video I just saw, about the infinite universe, to open their minds and realize just how small we are and that these things are petty and meaningless.

My boyfriend is black (I’m white) and we had been dating a few years when this movie came out. He asked me jokingly if I was doing the same. I told him that I was playing the long game in hopes he would get old and slow so he couldn’t run away. He didn’t like my response so I offered to make him a cup of tea. 😂 Needless to say, he implemented a plastic cup only rule that’s been in place ever since. Hahahaha
