How to differentiate if coleus plant is wilting due to excess heat (temperature 38 to 40 degree Celsius) or due to over watering?
The plant is placed outdoors but in shade
I need a little bit more details whether your coleus is in pot or not. If its not in pot simple test will work, first check soil to see if its moist or not, if its mosit there will be over watering issue. If not and soil is dry, provide water and check in few hours and your plant will be fine. If your plant is in pot (usually small or mid size pot) its common your plant to be wilted in high temperature, espcially if you coleus is big and bushy. In this senario root system can't keep up with temprature and evoporation. Normally early morning or night time watering will help with that and also transfering your plant to bigger pot.
Wilting from high temperature is reversible and could happen many times but over watering could be more problematic by killing roots.
Everything?...I wrote an 1100 page encyclopedia of Coleus with 1800 cultivars and it's far, far from complete and "everything you need to know".
