Yes; I've kept 2 Gucci scarves from the 80's. The 4 seasons one is still being created but with a twist; mine has a bright yellow boarder. I always bring a vintage Chloe scarf, more the size of a huge shawl in georgette, on an airplane, terrific in place of the blankets they hand out... folds up into nothing.
Yes. Thank you for mentioning this! I am a hopeless scarf addict. I have them in Kashmir, silk, & fur. I find good accessories made of quality Materials give you the best of both worlds. They totally transform your wardrobe through the seasons and make it affordable to buy nice things.
Spot on Sophie, as the daughter of a French woman who is a devotee of style, she would pretty much give the same advice, she would probably say one pair of Chanel flats and one pair of heels..thanks so much for another lovely video
Being a jewellery designer, I can never justify buying a costume jewellery from high-end brands (costume jewellery being the keywords). I can roughly gauge how much it'll take to manufacture and the durability of the pieces, and it's just never personally been worth it. The jeweller in me will cringe and cringe whenever I even so much as look at them in the stores, lol. To each their own of course, but I'd much rather spend the money on accessories like scarves, etc. that will be more versatile and will probably last longer.
personally when it comes to costume jewellery I have a "case by case scenario" approach. For example: I would never buy rings or neckleces because I know that they'll inevitably tarnish pretty quicky since they come in contact with sweat. On the other hand, something like a solid metal (no rhinestones) pair of earrings or a brooch are worth the money IMO because it's unlikely that they won't last AND (talking Chanel here) they keep their value if I ever decided to sell them.
my great-grandfather was a jeweler (we still have some of his pieces!) and a lot of his knowledge has been passed down. Knowing what I know about jewelry, I can't justify the cost of 99.9% of higher end costume jewelry that I see (not that I really purchase jewelry at this point in my life). Every once in a while I see a brooch or earrings where I can almost understand the justification, but even then I would rather buy pieces made with real precious stones/metals because at least I know those will always have decent resale value.
In regards, to the H belt. You're right. They will scratch like the your clic H bracelet. However, you can buy the brushed version. They won't give you the shiny look, but it is scratch resistant and will look better longer!
I never used to have an eye for fashion, but your videos are helping! I like to think I dress relatively well, so information like this can really help me take the looks to the next-level!
Speaking of the Hermès clic bracelets...The men’s clic clacs are so much better! Stainless steel, and the enamel is brushed so it doesn’t show scratching. 12/10 recommend. I beat mine to death and i have been really impressed

I just got my first designer bag and I hope I'll be able to use it for years to come (although it's not one of the three you mentioned, I think it's cute, not obviously branded - only for those in the know - and easy to transition day to night).
Great tips, Sophie! Less is more and not too much bling is always my motto - including designer brands with too much bling. When it comes to jewelry a pair of Tiffany diamond earrings and and an understated Rolex is enough for me. The shoes and the bag is your extra... xx
I would agree with everything you said Sophie! I would just add a designer watch and scarf! I have a Cartier watch and a Burberry scarf, love them and always feel so elegant wearing them!
Love your blouse, you look so pretty in it! I totally agree. This lady I'm watching on RUclips was presenting and she looked great in her nicely fitted white jeans, large blousey top, and the Dior kitten heals with the j'adore strap that are highly recognizable, plus they have the logo all over them, which elevated her entire outfit.
Bichonmommy R - Agreed. I’d add probably 2 silk scarves with different color stories and different shapes. Sophie even had on wrapped on the handle of her cream Chanel bag, and you see the scarves wrapped on the handles of the Hermès bags, too. Too bad I’d rather buy a car than a Birkin!
I made my first designer purchase and I can say you influenced me in purchasing the LV Alma BB. I got the same one as you because of how much you love it. I hotstamped a K on it because I liked how yours looks with the S. I’m so happy I love it. It’s like my lil baby. I know it sounds crazy, but being a college student I’ve saved for a handbag for a while. So it’s staying with me forever, it holds sentimental value ❤️
Great video - I agree with most everything you mentioned. For me, I would substitute a designer scarf in place of the belt. I have a large stomach and belts always seem to emphasize that fact. However, a scarf draws the eye towards my face. Even better if the scarf can be worn multiple ways, functioning as a shawl or wrap also.

I love fine jewelry, solid 14 or 18 karat gold. I rather invest in one or two fine jewelry than spend my money on designer fashion jewelry that are so high in prices and not worth the money.
Where I work there is a stock trading floor. There is one rule for the women traders when it comes to jewellery. You could wear gaudy jewellery, but it had to be real: gold, silver, precious gems.
Love and agree, I have a classic red Burberry "pea coat" that my husband bought me for Christmas 2008. Over the years I have lost and gain tremendous weight and I still feel like a million bucks in that coat. Have been going back and forth about a purchase of these Alexander McQueen black flats for months--think your video really helped me to go over the edge :) No luxury friends to consult with--thanks for your video, love!
I would add a good Swiss made watch. I bought my Omega about 16 years ago and it’s still in great shape and classic. And the prices of good classic watches keep going up!!
So agree with the costume jewelry! However, I have to say a good SLG (wallet especially) really rounds out a capsule collection nicely. I'd choose an SLG over designer sunglasses, since I live in a climate really similar to England sunglasses aren't useful for much of the year lol! I think sunglass shapes change too fast, whereas good wallets last you 10+ years.
Superb advice. This advice is the best on how to invest n spend your own money on material things that cld make a difference. Precise, concise guide. Love from Malaysia.
Classic sunnies: aviators. They never go out of style and so flattering. I have 2 Tom Ford pairs and eyeing one from Prada. Agree with Balmain blazer or alike. Classics.
The first time I knew the LUISAVIAROMA is from you...this is literally an amazing website..I found a red saint Laurent leather bag 50%off there several days ago...Thank you very much..
Chanel ballet flats are the best things ever. I bought mine last year and only took them out for the first time to wear last week! LOL Cos of the beige color i was really afraid of getting them dirty, but omg so COMFORTABLE!!!! And they're designer shoes. BUYING TIP TO NOTE: And if you have wide feet, buy them in asia, it comes in a C cut which is for wide foot. In europe or london, paris etc its B cut which is for slim feet.
I agree with you. I have the same Chanel sunglasses, a H belt, the Chanel slingbacks and the Chanel flap. I feel like I can dress up any simple outfits.
Yes!! Agree on all points. You only need a few luxe pieces to look stylish and timeless. I put my money towards classic bags and accessories like sunnies and belts. I also would include a watch. I think a beautiful watch elevates any outfit. Chanel, Dior and Prada are my favorite sunglasses.
Another on point video Sophie. I totally agree with your capsule picks - and endorse the H belt. I chose the tan (gold) with the black leather and bought the H in silver and gold tone which gives me lots of options and instantly elevates even jeans and simple shirt. These basic accessories once bought will never let you down! Always enjoy your content. Hugs!! Xxx
I like your list but what I’d change is, spending the $500-800 sunglass money on another pair of shoes or ready to wear (great black trousers, classic white blouse, etc).
Great review. I agree with the customer jewlery. Being from middle east where you just buy gold....real gold....I never understood why people waste money on fake jewlery that will tarnish. Save your pennies and buy timeless real jewlery.
Just discovered you, dear Sophie and I totally agree with every single sentence you told us! Great video and classy lady! Warmest greetings from Rome/Italy
Thanks Sophie for your suggestion on the Hermes Belt. Was really confused, I knew you would have a video to help. I hope your doing well. Sending you lots of love xxx
I have many designer bags but rarely use my LV bags. There are so many copies and they are worn by too many women. I do not feel special when I use my LV's.
When you’re in an airport you can really notice it. Seems like everyone has a LV Neverfull. I still like them but I think it’s funny how noticeable it is in an airport.
@@heyhey11793 I think it's because it is an easy travel bag. Throw everything in it and not too big to be an additional luggage to your carry on luggage 😉
Sunglasses UV deteriorate with time, so No need to worry about long time. Very good video, I agree with your advice. To add I would say designer scarf is also a good piece to have.
My list Gucci - Jackie hobo in brown or black leather and Longchamp Nylon Le Pliage Ray Ban - Jackie O frames in black with black lens Gucci Brixton loafers to match handbag Burberry Classic Trench Hermes scarves. I’m a casual dresser most of time
Thank you for posting this video! I appreciated the visual images of the opportunity cost for purchasing a desired item. I was always of the opinion that Christian Louboutin shoes were the most comfortable heels for a woman to wear. Thank you for posting & I cant wait for the next video! xoxo amrita
Great video Sophie! I would like to have that Balmain blazer and the Chanel classic flap one day! Also, I think that a good trench coat is a good investment in your wardrobe.
You’re absolutely right! I recognized and understood long ago about the bad quality way that custom jewelry was heading to that’s why at a very early age I started to collect mostly Vintage pieces not only because of its beauty but also because of it’s great solid quality and durability Mostly from Monet, Trifari, Napier, Sarah Coventry etc, even some Avon and Joan Rivers pieces and if I got lucky one in a blue any other designer VINTAGE custom jewelry pieces I came across like Givenchy, Graziano, etc still do to this day and it has not disappointed me yet. Excellent quality, color hardly almost never scratches or fade. I’m not talking about grandma’s old dated pieces, I mean classic timeless looking pieces that will never go out of style. Sorry about the rambling but I’m a very passionate collector so I love it when someone else really gets it! Great video as usual, TFS!
I love that you mentioned the ready to wear on one piece that we actually wearing almost every day. And for me, it's a jacket because of the climate where I live here is quite cold. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and recommendations Sophie 😊 God bless you and David
Since I've grown older I'll skip clothes because I'll outgrow them fast. Shoes I do keep Loboutin, Marmont and Chanel flats and are a great investment. As for purses I finally settled on a Chanel Mini since I can wear it daytime and nighttime all right. My second choice would be the Dior Promenade. I don't wear designer sunglasses, that one passed me by. Also great are the Chanel slingbacks, in black are a great option. Great video, most helpful!
My 5 designer staple pieces (that I also own) are: 1. Hermès belt 2. Chanel Espadrilles 3. Chanel mini rectangular 4. Hermès Birkin (or Kelly) 5. Gucci sneakers Fantastic video and solid advice as always, thank you for posting!
Totally agree with the jewelery and buying timeless over hyped stuff. For Sunglasses, I have had designer ones in the past (Chanel) and even when I was careful to make sure they're not just on trend I think they're a bit dated. So I only buy the classic sunglass brands now, Ray-ban and Persol. Aviators all the way!
Love this video. As for costume jewelry I think it depends on what you buy, why and what works for your lifestyle. I own some fine jewelry pieces that I wear, and for years was dying to get a few Chanel costume jewelry items. I always resisted because they are not made of precious materials, and are not cheap for what they are. Finally, I got one pair of earrings and a brooch. I think if you carefully select your pieces and buy what you use but not damage (like earrings for me) it will be worth it. The price of classic costume jewelry goes up, and I think it is easier to sell a pair of Chanel earrings than no name brand real gold ones. But don’t go overboard with anything. For me I don’t like belts, sunglasses or SLG’s, and can be happy with quality medium range ones.
If designers bothered to acknowledge that women can have long feet too (especially when we're tall) then I'd buy a designer shoe. So sad that they pretend like tall women don't exist off the runway. I wonder how the models fit the designer shoes - probably custom made for them b/c most brands do only size 10 or "11" which isn't a real 11 if you're lucky. Love this video!
Haha - I have the opposite problem with clothes - I am 5' tall and it seems that everything is designed for you taller ladies! It always amazes me that there are so many brands of clothing, bags, shoes out there but there are still glaring gaps that can be a real business opportunity for someone with the entrepreneurial spirit.
@@shopgirl6273 See, I'm not putting myself through that, LOL! Maybe I should get the men's Gucci loafers. There doesn't seem to be much difference b/w the two.
This is such a good advice. For the part of inserting the picture, it makes me see clearer. I totally agree with you that I should get a good pair of shoes rather than a pair of earrings. Thanks!
I just found your channel today and I love love your taste with a little exception, I don’t understand why you’d wear a huge channel (or any designers name) necklace or r bracelet advertising someone else’s goods. I don’t mind a tiny CC on the closure of a purse but I’d never wear CC’s or gigs or LVs all over my purse, sweater etc. Thanks for your video
Wow, totally agree with a lot of those luxury basic items you picked. I think a handbag is a must and shoes and sunglasses does help elevate your outfit. I always want to protect my luxury items so I find shoes so hard to purchase because they can get ruined so easily! I've recently been on an slg kick, but I definitely agree those aren't the most beneficial item for outfit since you don't see them. I do notice I use them a lot more than my designer shoes though!
I also wear these button pearl earrings. White pearls are always a good choice ... I prefer shell-pit-pearls (don't know the correct expression in English). They are bigger than normal pearls and cheaper. For sunglasses I would also choose the classic version. These can be worn year after. You cannot go wrong with it.
I´m all for the sunglasses cause in my experience (at least with Armani, Guess and Longchamp) they are really worth their money, durable and the classics don´t go out of style- plus the lenses I need for them are double the price of the glasses... so I don´t get new ones too often and they might as well be nice and worth getting then
Such good tips Sophie thank you. I would love a Chanel bag, but I really can’t justify that amount of money on a bag just yet. Maybe one day. Look forward to your next video xxx 😘
Where did you find the supplies for your necklace? like the pathers? It looks amazing on you! I think a video on how you make the jewelry, your inspiration for different pieces and what your planning to make, and where you find your supplies to make them. I think it would be fun to see.
Cool video! If I had the extra money, definitely would invest it in the Chanel Classic flap bag, pair of shoes (Chanel flats or boots), & a jacket (can use it through spring, fall & winter). Everything else is easily replaceable if it gets broken. And of course invest in real gold or silver jewelry since you can get your $ money back if needed
Love this video Sophie! I think most of your suggestions are great. Although you don't suggest costume jewellery for capsule collections, I don't like costume jewellery altogether because it's poor quality and screams 'I only brought it for the label, I don't care about quality because i just wanna be seen as wealthy' which isn't a look I'd want to have. I'd personally much rather buy jewellery that's real gold. You can get gold rings or earings that have an amazing cut from a South Asian jeweller for example. They tend to be really gold and have such intricate detail that actually scream old money because of the style they have (quite traditional). Obviously they wouldn't go with every outfit so this wouldn't be appropriate for a capsule wardrobe but I personally think it would add so much to a really feminine outfit, especially with outfits where brands have culturally appropriated the clothing, whether its Middle Eastern style or South Asian or native American etc. The colour of the jewellery and the cut must match the outfit of course. For outfits that would require western jewellery only, I'm sure you could get real gold earrings or rings with less traditional style. Or silver.. whatever you prefer. My point is, that real gold actually screams 'I have taste and I brought it for the style not for the label' provided you wear them within an appropriate setting.. that's just what I think anyway. Would love to hear your thoughts
Ooh love this video! I have the Hermes belt-this is SO worth the money! It’s the best belt I have owned. I got the brushed Gold H buckle which doesn’t show up scratches as easily. It’s expensive but reversible so really 2 belts in 1. I got the black shiny leather and gold/tan reversible in the 32mm width. The thickness and quality is so good. I know it’s going to last for years and years. Even comparing it to the Gucci belt side by side m, you can really tell the difference in quality and I love my Gucci belt too! Isabelle Ahn (my style experiment) did a great Hermes belt review 2018 and her video was what made me go out and buy one for Xmas in 2018 after her comparison belt video on Hermes! 😊 I have the Hermes clic bracelet and agree with what you said about the scratches, (wouldn’t buy the bracelet again) Loving the CD belt too now that you have shown it here! Might have to save up for this one now for Xmas! Thanks Sophie! I love your videos for style inspiration and you are so funny and down to earth that I look forward to getting notifications when your next video is out!

Thank you .. I too want to start my luxury collection and I didn’t know where to start yes my eyes was always looking at trendy but the reason I want luxury is for longevity and if need be I can sell
Another amazing video! This is so me! Having a few pieces of luxury because I just can't swallow the price point for something I can't/won't be used often enough. I like things to be practical, especially if I'm spending lots of money on it!
Buying vintage Chanel shoes is an easy way to get a luxury basic. I’ve bought pairs on eBay and had them resoled, the leather cleaned, and they’re great. If you have a particularly narrow foot you have to be careful they aren’t overly stretched out...but all things considered, I have 3 pairs of Chanel ballet flats that have cost me under $500 total.
I love these tips. Although I will probably never be able to buy designer clothes since I’m plus size. But I whole heartedly believe I can take a cute classic look from torrid and make it look really classy with a good pair of shoes and bag. One reason I fell in love with designer bags and shoes is because my dress size won’t matter Edit: what are suggestions for those who wear prescription glasses. Here in the US insurance covers most frames but designer frames typically aren’t covered.

Have been going back and forth about a purchase of these Alexander McQueen black flats for months--think your video really helped me to go over the edge :) No luxury friends to consult with--thanks for your video, love!
I like to watch your videos. Through you I learn more and more English🙈. Thank you for speaking so clearly👌. I also love your style❤
I just bought those Chanel Sunglasses yesterday as my first designer item and I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. 😍
I am a handbag lover, HOWEVER you can never go wrong with a pair of designer sunglasses ❤️
LOL
Cos of the beige color i was really afraid of getting them dirty, but omg so COMFORTABLE!!!! And they're designer shoes.
BUYING TIP TO NOTE:
And if you have wide feet, buy them in asia, it comes in a C cut which is for wide foot.
In europe or london, paris etc its B cut which is for slim feet.
Thanks for the tip, I was just wondering if my wide feet would work with the Chanel flats!
Just buy sun glasses on discount. Like Nordstrom rack or hautelook.
Yup!!!
Great review. I agree with the customer jewlery. Being from middle east where you just buy gold....real gold....I never understood why people waste money on fake jewlery that will tarnish. Save your pennies and buy timeless real jewlery.
I have that alma and I literally wear it every weekend. Still looks fresh too.
I’m so in love with the Alma BB in the Damier Ebene. That is definitely my next bag. Nothing will sway me.😊❤️
I have many designer bags but rarely use my LV bags. There are so many copies and they are worn by too many women. I do not feel special when I use my LV's.
True
same here
When you’re in an airport you can really notice it. Seems like everyone has a LV Neverfull. I still like them but I think it’s funny how noticeable it is in an airport.
Do you need a bag to feel special?
@@heyhey11793 I think it's because it is an easy travel bag. Throw everything in it and not too big to be an additional luggage to your carry on luggage 😉
Sunglasses UV deteriorate with time, so No need to worry about long time.
Very good video, I agree with your advice. To add I would say designer scarf is also a good piece to have.
As I am new to luxury, I really appreciate this sensible designer capsule
My list
Gucci - Jackie hobo in brown or black leather and Longchamp Nylon Le Pliage
Ray Ban - Jackie O frames in black with black lens
Gucci Brixton loafers to match handbag
Burberry Classic Trench
Hermes scarves.
I’m a casual dresser most of time
Miss you Sophie! Got neck-deep in work for months 🙌🏻 Got to binge watch now
Classics are always in, and combining them for everyday situations are always the way to go 🙂 thanks for another great vid and advice 😍😍
Love those Chanel flats...good choice for a capsule wardrobe. Also love those dior shoes too in your other videos x
Thank you for posting this video! I appreciated the visual images of the opportunity cost for purchasing a desired item. I was always of the opinion that Christian Louboutin shoes were the most comfortable heels for a woman to wear. Thank you for posting & I cant wait for the next video! xoxo amrita
I love the top, it’s so fun and the cropped style means your figure still looks fab
Great video Sophie! I would like to have that Balmain blazer and the Chanel classic flap one day! Also, I think that a good trench coat is a good investment in your wardrobe.
Great video as usual 💕. Excellent tips to getting the basics. I’am in love with the Lady Dior bag. Would this be a good starter bag?
My 5 designer staple pieces (that I also own) are:
1. Hermès belt
2. Chanel Espadrilles
3. Chanel mini rectangular
4. Hermès Birkin (or Kelly)
5. Gucci sneakers
Fantastic video and solid advice as always, thank you for posting!
@@littlemom2070Very interesting and very true! You'd think designers would realize the money they're losing but.....?!
I agree, I have 8 pairs of designer shoes 👠 the 2 pairs of Gucci are the only one I can ware and not want to cry after a couple of hours.
@@shopgirl6273 See, I'm not putting myself through that, LOL! Maybe I should get the men's Gucci loafers. There doesn't seem to be much difference b/w the two.
Chloe has European 41/ US size 11 in past. Never seen Chanel in real 41.
The Chanel espadrilles are also super comfortable. I have horrible feet and they are a dream to wear.
I love videos like this, sometimes I get distracted and end up buying stuff that I don’t need and then it’s dated. This helped me, thanks!
I love the Chanel ballet flats, I the costume jewelry isn't a great investment but that Chanel necklace is gorgeous.😍
How come no one ever mentions the Salvatore Ferragamo belt? Timeless and not flashy. Makes less expensive outfits look like a million bucks.
I love Ferragamo. Timeless!
Meredith Thompson not cute to me
Agreed. Understated and screams class and sophistication. And reversible so you get two belts in one. I hate the Gucci belt.
Shhhh it’s a hidden gem.. don’t want it to turn out like the Gucci belt totally played out
Ks is not expensive enough of a brand 😂
I´m all for the sunglasses cause in my experience (at least with Armani, Guess and Longchamp) they are really worth their money, durable and the classics don´t go out of style- plus the lenses I need for them are double the price of the glasses... so I don´t get new ones too often and they might as well be nice and worth getting then
Love this ! Good idea to have staple peaces that you can pull out every year.
At 8:10 that top is so flattering on you omg gorgeous
Such good tips Sophie thank you. I would love a Chanel bag, but I really can’t justify that amount of money on a bag just yet. Maybe one day. Look forward to your next video xxx 😘
Great points, i want to get either a ready to wear blazer or lbd once i lose weight. For now I should keep working out lol.
Love your video, good advice. Also, absolutely love your blouse!! Thanks Sophie.
That chanel classic flap colour wow
That blazer is ridiculously gorgeous. I think I’d also buy a nice watch
I have the Hermes clic bracelet and agree with what you said about the scratches, (wouldn’t buy the bracelet again)
Loving the CD belt too now that you have shown it here! Might have to save up for this one now for Xmas!
Thanks Sophie! I love your videos for style inspiration and you are so funny and down to earth that I look forward to getting notifications when your next video is out!
I only got 4 things left. I just bought my 1st gg aviator sunglasses. Its really true that if you really love something and you bought it you will never look for another. I just only need one sunglasses. 😊 I'm glad I'm practicing minimalism.
I totally agree with the bags you mentioned, I got my Chanel flap bag this year and I also got my alma bb they were both great purchases. I really love the alma bb and it does make your outfit look better!
Thank you .. I too want to start my luxury collection and I didn’t know where to start yes my eyes was always looking at trendy but the reason I want luxury is for longevity and if need be I can sell
Yes I agree to buy timeless pieces. And I agree with purchasing diamonds or pearls than luxury costumes jewelry. And also comfortable flats.
LOVED the comparison screens. Eye opener!! SLGs seem like a waste to me. Would’ve loved to see a pile of SLGs vs a classic piece!
where do you get your Chanel flats re soled/heeled?
Always love watching your videos. You have such great style!
Another amazing video! This is so me! Having a few pieces of luxury because I just can't swallow the price point for something I can't/won't be used often enough. I like things to be practical, especially if I'm spending lots of money on it!
i would recommend substituting the "ready to wear" with "classic accessories" e.g. Chanel brooch. It magically turns casual to classy.
I LOVE your style, personality, how real you come across on video - EVERYTHING! Love from Jamaica
This top you're wearing is so beautiful! 😍
I fucking love this woman. She really tells you what people are thinking about. Her honesty is amazing. Thank you for this channel.
Oh! Try the Dolce & Gabanna Baroque line~ it has a costume jewelry feel but real gold , sapphires, pearls, rubies etc~ so stunning~ just came out
My friend as always you mesmerize me with your fabulous tips and the outfit of the day your absolutely brilliant don’t forget how much I cherish you 💋
I love these tips. Although I will probably never be able to buy designer clothes since I’m plus size. But I whole heartedly believe I can take a cute classic look from torrid and make it look really classy with a good pair of shoes and bag. One reason I fell in love with designer bags and shoes is because my dress size won’t matter
Edit: what are suggestions for those who wear prescription glasses. Here in the US insurance covers most frames but designer frames typically aren’t covered.
