That TSL is another great sleeper amp. As long as you take care of the PCB bias bleed, you are good to go. I also recently updated both power and output transformers and the amp came to life! I also just picked up the 800. Love it too. Simple. Thank you Euge for bringing life back into standard amps in a sea of modelers. I have a good modeler I like, but I am switching back to live amps. Nothing beats it!
Indeed. I’ve never used modelers. I’ve tried them a few times but they just don’t feel right to me. Just computer games to me compared to, lets say, driving with a real Mustang GT vs video game of that 😎.
Euge is spot on with this. Found a used TSL 100 in a local pawn shop, had some obvious bias drift issues as is common with these. Bought it anyway, cleaned it up, swapped out the main board for a rev20 and it is great working order now. Not sure why people sleep on these amps. The footswitch complaints are a fair criticism but not enough reason to steer clear of these amps in my opinion. They sound amazing.
Agreed Kellan707 I bought one about 8 years ago it needed tubes I bought it for 300 USA dollars with foot switch it’s been a killer amp so far after the retube.
I had the same luck. Craigslist, $100 (“needs tubes”), replaced board & tubes. Works like a champ for total of $430, 🤘🤘! Added a power soak &… f#$&*ng badass! Oh yea with pedal too👍

Good question! I filmed a bunch of videos before my vacation and one of them was about noise gates & how I use them (both of the gates you mentioned are included). I’ll most likely publish it next week so please be patient 🤟.
All your Amps sound great, particularly when you play them. What do you use when playing onstage? I imagine you use in ear monitors, or wedges, both? 🤷♀ With such great sounding Amps, are you able to hear, get, and enjoy that same kind of sound live?
Wow... It sounds so big. Usually I heard bad opinions about TSL series, but it sound great. I remember Satchel from Steel Panther used tsl 100 before EVH amps. I heard they have a factory fault with bias.
I've just bought TSL 122 combo and i'm watching all your videos. Is there any chance you'd post your amp settings as screenshots? It's hard for me to really see even when you highlight them in your vids.
Cool! Like I said in the video that I don’t have any settings; it depends what I’m looking for, what guitar / tuning I have etc. But I went through the settings I had on this video so please watch the full video. No idea anymore what they were 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V i was thinking more about your settings from 'TSL 100 - Metal' video. Anyway, i'm really enjoying your playing, i'm gonna figure this one out. :)
I always liked the TSL. I believe an issue might have been difficulty of repair. Someone told me it consisted of multiple circuit boards, hard to get at components etc. I'm not an expert by any means, but that could play a role in their apparent lack of popularity and collectability? Great tones and playing BTW!
@@EugeValovirta230V Cool. Thanks Euge. I might look at picking one up. I thought they were great. I have a new local amp tech and he doesn't seem intimidated by challenges. Great channel by the way
You’re welcome! I have this one for sale at Reverb if you’re interested: reverb.com/item/65804838-marshall-jcm2000-tsl100-triple-super-lead-100-watt-2005-black? It’s a great amp but I don’t really need it ’cos I mainly use my four JCM800s.
Hi Euge! I found a jcm 2000 dsl on sale for 6000 sek (537 usd) to me that looks like a steal, but what do you think? Idk if there's anything wrong with it and how much a checkup/repair would cost.
Yeah! I don’t know what a basic checkup costs in Sweden but it should be an hour job and if it needs repair then obviously the parts and how long it takes to fix it 😎. When I’ve bought used Marshalls usually I’ve changed all tubes, re-biased it and many times filters caps needs to be changed too. All of those are approx. 300-500 € depending the the tubes etc. But sometimes there’s no need to do anything. When I bought my TSL100 all it needed was fix the basic faults those amps usually have and it was about 150€.
Yeah you gotta be willing to pay for repairs & maintenance with tube amps. They’re like (old) cars that needs continuous maintenance. If it has an attenuator then sure.
@@EugeValovirta230V You spoke about the DSL in the end of the video but I'm a little bit confused if you meant the jcm 2000 dsl or the new dsl line. Did you try a 2000 dsl and if so, is it different tonally from the tsl? (Other than every amp being a little different but you know) sorry for bothering you so much. :D
I’ve done a video about if I remember correct but can’t remember now. I guess it was a bit different (other than power obviously); a bit ”weaker” if I remember correct.
I have a TSL602 combo that sounds fantastic, not as loud as the TSL100 but not weak sounding at all. It's not as tight sounding and not as bright(needs presence on 8 or more) with more bottom end and body. The clean channels sound exactly the same on both. I also brought a TSL60 head unheard and it sounds like shit, weak and fizzy even after a retube.
The low price of TSL100 in the used market has more to do with their quality control than their tonal quality. The initial run of TSL100 from 1998 to 2003 amps had faulty PCBs, it was fixed with the Revision 6 PCB introduced after 2003. The initial faulty production runs tarnished the image of this amp.
I can't believe that TSL100. Never had one but I have heard so much bad about TSLs that I always steered clear. That thing sounds amazing here though, and last I checked they were less expensive than just about any other Marshall tube head, including DSLs. I need to research this some more and possibly pick one up soon.
Yeah they’re great amps! 👌🤟And like with any other tube Marshall, it needs quite a bit of (master volume) cranking to open up and sound massive 💪. I guess those that haven’t liked them had probably never turned the master past 5 or something. It’s insaly loud theb but hey, it’s a 100 watt tube amp so that’s what you get 😊.
What I will give is some(learned) advice. Replacing the board is pretty easy to do yourself, just make sure yo take good picks of each step or you might be trying to get the wire plugs to the right spots for way too long like me😳
trading a Kemper toaster for a JMP mkii Master Model Lead 100 (plus $1500 Canadian). Kemper is redundant for me with TH-U, Helix, AT5, etc. I guess this should be fairly similar to early JCM 800 yeah?
@@EugeValovirta230V so picked it up. Perfect for classic rock, but for me to get to 80s hard rock and metal it will need a boost. I have OCD and BE-OD but might look at the SD-1. I guess I could set amp clean, use OCD for rhythm and then hit the BE-OD for leads.
If I had to choose just one amp it’d be JCM800 2203 💪. But I do love my old 5150 block letter too 😎. I recorded the rhythm guitars for the forthcoming Cyhra album with both; 800 boosted with SD-1 and 5150 with TS-808. Pretty classic and works like a charm 😎🤟.
Great Demo as always. The ESP: What Year? Full Thickness? I have a couple eclipse II from 2005 and 2008 that are amazing. I love my 2204s nothing like those. I will have to try the dsl100 again.
Thanks! ESP’s Japan Custom Shop made four of these to me when I got the endorsement deal in early 2000s. Can’t remember the exact years and can’t check since I’m on a vacation now 😎. I have 7 Custom Shops by them and in general the bodies & necks are quite a bit thicker than on your standard / basic ESPs. And yes full thickness 💪👌. All made according my exact wishes / specs 🙏.
nice tone! beats your ir impulses tones......mic,ed cab always sound better......maybe iso cab might be good too.....i also use impulses too because i live in apartment, i dont like it but i have no choice
The TSL100 sounds incredible, thank JCM800 purists for keeping them cheap! The amount of potential problems they have is a little scary though, they are complicated amps to fix.
I got my JCM 2000 TSL60 a few days ago that is a amazing amplifier 2002 model is really nice amplifier sounds killer the effects loop chain on it seems kind of noisy like hissy sounding I think it's probably typical though
I think the 2203 is hard to beat but entirely unuseable in most life settings (99% of the times i dont play huge stages) just because they sound tinny and brittle at sound guy friendly volumes. The tsl also sounds better when moving some air but imo you get away with much lower volumes.
You got the King of the Kings. I have the King of the King of the Kings.😂 It's an '83 2203. They are supposed to be a little less compressed and a little less aggressive. But you know that. The Master Volume behaves the same like yours, except they do not blow up. Funny how you've mistaken the amps. That happens a lot. I once thought the mic i was listening to is a 57, but it was a 421.😂 Mind making a comparison of the signal chain which you have right now with the 2203 vs NO St Rock in the signal chain at all, but with lower volume on the amp, so that you end having the same volume in the room as you have "right now".
I was looking for this in my country but there is only one or two in the internet... and the price is nearly same as a B-stock JVM410h..... maybe the seller watch your video that's why they raise the price hahahaha......😂
I’ve used od with ENGLs and with pretty much all amps just to make them tighter and I like the feel od (especially Boss SD-1) gives me. Just a matter of personal preference.
@@EugeValovirta230V my Engl has a 5 button footswitch, clean, crunch, high gain, contour/reverb and boost. My effects rack has no amp modulation or built in OD or distortion. I’m old and old school.

Thanks! My live amp is BluGuitar’s AMP1 Iridium. Here’s a gear run we did a while ago with Cyhra: ruclips.net/video/yIpef6mZFSc/видео.html
@@EugeValovirta230V Cool. It was very interesting and helpful to see a rundown of you and your Band's live rig. 🤘😎
Glad to hear!
Wow... It sounds so big. Usually I heard bad opinions about TSL series, but it sound great. I remember Satchel from Steel Panther used tsl 100 before EVH amps. I heard they have a factory fault with bias.
💪. Yeah they had some factory faults which are pretty easy to fix by a good amp tech 👌.
@@EugeValovirta230VNice! What wah pedal did you use? Sound awsome.
Dunlop John Petrucci 👌.
Thanks for the review ! 🤘
p.s. It was very useful to learn how the master volume knobs work on each of the Marshalls
Glad to hear! Thanks!

🙏👌
@@EugeValovirta230V i was thinking more about your settings from 'TSL 100 - Metal' video. Anyway, i'm really enjoying your playing, i'm gonna figure this one out. :)
Ah ok. No idea 😎. Thanks!
I always liked the TSL. I believe an issue might have been difficulty of repair. Someone told me it consisted of multiple circuit boards, hard to get at components etc. I'm not an expert by any means, but that could play a role in their apparent lack of popularity and collectability? Great tones and playing BTW!
Me too. Yeah it’s a bit more complicated but still pretty basic and easy to fix etc. At least according to my go to amp tech.
@@EugeValovirta230V Woah, that 300-500 looks scary haha. Do you think the two notes captor would work well as an attenuator for that amp?
Yeah you gotta be willing to pay for repairs & maintenance with tube amps. They’re like (old) cars that needs continuous maintenance. If it has an attenuator then sure.
@@EugeValovirta230V You spoke about the DSL in the end of the video but I'm a little bit confused if you meant the jcm 2000 dsl or the new dsl line.
Did you try a 2000 dsl and if so, is it different tonally from the tsl? (Other than every amp being a little different but you know) sorry for bothering you so much. :D
What do you think about the TSL60 compared to the 100?
I’ve done a video about if I remember correct but can’t remember now. I guess it was a bit different (other than power obviously); a bit ”weaker” if I remember correct.
I have a TSL602 combo that sounds fantastic, not as loud as the TSL100 but not weak sounding at all. It's not as tight sounding and not as bright(needs presence on 8 or more) with more bottom end and body. The clean channels sound exactly the same on both. I also brought a TSL60 head unheard and it sounds like shit, weak and fizzy even after a retube.
Sounds pretty good ,yeah!
Very good tones from that TSL. Your playing helps a lot too.
Thanks!
Yeah! Usually it does 😎🤟. Thanks!
True Marshall,Diggin that Riff!~ You could make a piece of crap guitar sound awesome.
I own a Marshall, SD-1…..thanks to Euge. I could only imagine what the Bad Boy sounds like in person. 🤘🤘
💪👌
how do these compare to the jvm410h
Can’t remember anymore but I did a comparison video a few years ago so please check out my Tube Amps - playlist 🤟.
Thanks for the info!
Heck yes with the middle channel on the TSL. It’s better than anything on the DSL. I find it strange that the DSL is more popular.
Yeah! 💪
Never understood why the TSL amps got such a bad rap. I have both the Marshall JCM2000 TSL100 & 122. Nice vid as always Euge.
Me neither. Thanks!
What I will give is some(learned) advice. Replacing the board is pretty easy to do yourself, just make sure yo take good picks of each step or you might be trying to get the wire plugs to the right spots for way too long like me😳
👌😎
I still maintain the stance the TSL100 is very underated compared to other amps. My main worry is you are going to push the price of these amps up :D
🤟. I guess one must act fast now 😎.
trading a Kemper toaster for a JMP mkii Master Model Lead 100 (plus $1500 Canadian). Kemper is redundant for me with TH-U, Helix, AT5, etc. I guess this should be fairly similar to early JCM 800 yeah?
Should be but one has to remember that all old Marshalls can be quite different from each other 👌🤟.
Yeah old Marshalls should come with SD-1 😎👌. My clean sound is that I just roll down the guitar’s volume.
Whoa , what's up with that hat ? As always, fantastic playing .. your demos are excellent.
Thanks!
That solo!
🤟
So I have used 5150 combos and split channel JCM 800 for years ..do you prefer 5150 to marshall?
Thanks! 🤟
Wich Wah ist that in Solo??
Can’t remember what I used on this one but most likely Dunlop Petrucci since it’s my main wah I use the most.
The TSL100 sounds incredible, thank JCM800 purists for keeping them cheap! The amount of potential problems they have is a little scary though, they are complicated amps to fix.
💪
I got my JCM 2000 TSL60 a few days ago that is a amazing amplifier 2002 model is really nice amplifier sounds killer the effects loop chain on it seems kind of noisy like hissy sounding I think it's probably typical though
🤟
The " Tone Vicking" 🤟🤟
😎🤟
I think the 2203 is hard to beat but entirely unuseable in most life settings (99% of the times i dont play huge stages) just because they sound tinny and brittle at sound guy friendly volumes. The tsl also sounds better when moving some air but imo you get away with much lower volumes.
Not bad for a hockey player, Euge. Not bad at all.. You should send that to Ozzy.
😎🤟🙏
It's cool tone. A bit muddy and less articulate than I prefer for me, but cool tone, just the same. You sound good with it as always though.
Thanks! 😎🤟
Fucking killer tone
This guy loves his MARSHALLS! GOOD EARS!
Marshall!!!!! 🤘😎cool vid
Yeah! 🤟😎. Thanks!
Cool!
Gold idea! Will add to my to do - list 👌.
@@EugeValovirta230V Great! Looking forward to it!
Jcm 800 aaaaalll the waaay...
🤟💪
I was looking for this in my country but there is only one or two in the internet... and the price is nearly same as a B-stock JVM410h..... maybe the seller watch your video that's why they raise the price hahahaha......😂
😎
As a no surprise to anyone, I'll probably add a TSL to my collection if I find one for the right price =). #BlameEuge
Good 😎👌.
Everybody that poo poo's the TSL100, I'm convinced, has never actually played one at volume.
Probably or then they just don’t know how to play. Or maybe they know but can’t 😁.
The TSL sounds more vintage/classic rock to me… The 800 is too dark for me
Only Marshall guys need OD, if your amp can’t drip OD all over you and the floor it’s time for an Engl.
Like I said; personal preferences. Whatever does the job 👌.
yea good one brother I am first to like 😜
