  • James Purefoy was already a prominent television and stage actor in the U.K. when he found fame in the U.S. with his role on HBO’s Rome. He went on to play the lead in the NBC summer series The Philanthropist, where he met Michael K. Williams of The Wire and Boardwalk Empire fame. Last year, fresh off his stint playing serial killer Joe Carroll in FOX’s The Following, Purefoy was back on set with Williams for Hap and Leonard. Nick Damici and Jim Mickle penned the six-part series for SundanceTV, based on the set of books by Joe R. Lansdale and sold internationally by Entertainment One Television. Purefoy tells TV Drama Weekly about the 1980s-set show, billed as a “darkly comic swamp noir” with two unlikely best friends, a get-rich-quick scheme and plenty of eccentric characters.

Beautiful interview! Love just to hear James Purefoy talk .. his voice is mesmerizing and sensual .. and what he has to say is intriguing and interesting ., this interview tugged hard at your heartstrings when James talked about the relationship between Hap and Leonard .. you could tell just from his voice and expression,, this relationship was awesome .. and this film well worth watching ..
James Purefoy is a brilliant actor ., he has an aura of mystery about him that draws you in to where he is .. and you are loathe to leave him ..
This is the kind of interview I most enjoy ., when the questions are posted.. and James is allowed to talk without interruption ..
James Purefoy is an amazing actor .. a brilliant speaker ., and an achingly beautiful man❣

He and Michael Williams became very close friends in real life. When Michael Williams died. He responded by saying something like.
    Rest now my beautiful prince.

I like how honest he is about the snobbishness that can create barriers. I like how tv has become filled with talented writers. And made it easier to get big stars to tv. It was stupid, really, to make it seem like films where the only A level situation. And showing that A level tv is a real thing. I never truly believed in that snobbishness.
I love all storytelling. The important thing is content and a good story. Some content makes me uncomfortable, but when the story is good I still watch it. But try to edit it out of my mind. Good content with a not so great storytelling, I like, but as I've finally grown older. I held on to my childhood longer. But I've noticed now bad storytelling or filming does feel a bit off. Yet I can still enjoy the good bits.
I liked the actors who were not afraid to go back to tv even after becoming famous, when it was not as well accepted. He's right, the famous actors who started to get back into tv after a time, opened the way.
And it's so true, tv writers who are good are famous and well known. I don't believe in calling humans, gods. All humans have frailties. Nobody is perfect. Just better at hiding it. I prefer humans who are not afraid to share honestly, but yet I understand the need for privacy. Because of bullies and trolls.

He's an incredibly prolific English actor. Watch HBO's Rome to see him play Marc Antony in one of the greatest performances of all time.

I’m from Alabama at first I was upset about their fake southern dialect but as I watched the show it grew on me. I do get upset about actors and actresses who use fake southern dialect but I’ll give this show a pass because it was a great show

Hi I need help finding a movie of James Purefoy, who played as a Russian Sniper or whatever, and he had an sniper fight with a another guy, which James got killed. He wore tennis shores and a track pants with hoodies in this fight. James were the bad guy (was a hired hit man),and this movie might have came out around late 90’s early 2000.ive looked everywhere but can’t find any leads

I know its fiction but being from East Texas i see alot of Vidor,Tx Jasper,Tx Tarkentan Tx in the show during the late 70s early 80s. Based on the highway signs 45 and 59 which just changed to 69 couple years back. As a kid i wasnt looking for the racism then but thinking back it was there in the adults.

An i know they said filmed in Baton Rouge La but the highway signs dont lie. Both areas are very simular in looks an attitudes.

"Hap & Leonard" is good, not great. Mr. Purefoy was great in "Rome". Mr. Williams was beyond great in "The Wire".

You come on too strong with that Florida woman. I didn't like that. would have run away. Only likes femme fatal women. Not a quiet girl like me.

Plenty of men go for quiet girls who aren't as extroverted! Just make sure you always be yourself and don't change for anyone!
Luckily Hap and Florida are a fictional character, so I feel like James might have different tastes and didn't come on to his wife too strong!
