Local restorer steps up to save Brantford’s Crystal Cottage

The Brant Historical Society says it found someone willing to restore one of its most expensive preservation projects to date.
Work to save the city’s “Crystal Cottage” hit a standstill last year after the developer who agreed to pay for the structure’s relocation went bankrupt.
The hiccup thrust the 19th century heritage-cottage into limbo as the conservation company struggled to afford its upkeep.
Recently however, a local restorer has agreed to take on the work that was needed to maintain the structure, breathing new life into the project.
On Tuesdays, the Brant Historical Society announced that Dan and Carol-Lyn Brown, two local restorers who are known for their preservation efforts, would be purchasing the project and partnering with the society to restore the cottage to its former glory.
Local Ward 3 Councillor Dan McCreary welcomed the move, calling it “good news.”
“The City of Brantford and the Brant Historical Society saved the Cottage from destruction and now Dan Brown can restore it to its original condition.”
