I wish they would do a video on the trouble zookeepers go through to ensure the public don't stress our animals. This included knowing when not to interact with the animals, how when we say don't do that it doesn't mean we are here to spoil your day, and also why we at times care more about the animals health and welfare than if you and your family are having a good time.
The keepers usually rely on the volunteers to let people know not to do that. As a zoo volunteer myself, I've had to calm down a couple kids at the outdoor gorilla enclosure because they were banging on the glass. Usually what I do is tell them that while I do like their enthusiasm, this is also our animals' home and the gorilla consider it an act of aggression if you bang on the glass.
Powerranger6342 I understand that I too am a zoo volunteer, but to some people that's not enough to give authority if that makes sense. The enclosures I usually cover are walkthrough, and while the animals are small (say lemurs being on of them) they can still cause some damage to a human being, especially a child, when threatened.
@suiteangel45 you most probably have to pay them as they have to have some one keep and eye on you and make sure you are safe, its for the experience so you can see what it's really about.
Definitely a need for more help out there on how to get into this field!
