One other thing worth doing with these, I have a similar model from the same time period but it's the table fan, looks identical otherwise, is checking the worm gear housing for the oscillation pull, where it engages it, the grease in there after these 20 or so years gets so hard and adds a huge amount of resistance, I cleaned it out and packed it with some silicone grease, good for plastic parts, and it spins a lot faster and freely.
The recalled models are SR-18 or SP-18, something to do with a short in the control box, after the power cord is damaged by the oscillating motion of the fan inside.
I had these but like only 2 and in blue with a light as nightlight but they overheated so quick that we had to buy new once and when i was a kid i loved making windmills from them
Definitely something odd with those three fans compared to the one you serviced. I would say it may likely be the compasitor. I would start there like you mentioned and check them out. It also could be the grease in the gearbox for the oscillator in these fans if they have never been looked at and the grease changed. I know I have had one that had an issue with the grease going bad over the years. I would change the grease out at least every 10-15 years depending on usage. Hopefully your able to find the problem and get the fans running the way they are saposted to in the future.
Mabey they just need to be ran for awhile because the compositors may need to be woken up from not being used for a long time, ive had that happen with my amber bladed lasko desk fan when i first got it.
@@JordanU yeah thats probably true. My amber lasko doesn’t really have that problem anymore and hasnt had it since ever since i gave it a generous amount of oil, so that might have been the issue. What threw me off was it took a while to work into the barring properly, which made me think it was the capacitor

Those fans are definately good for cooling a big room.
I wouldn't use it for much beyond a medium sized room, they're not the most powerful of this form factor available.

I believe these models were affected by the recall, regardless I’d never run an SMC with oscillation.

I really don't understand why all the oscillating fans from the era weren't subject to the recall, they all seem to have the same design flaw.
