I think what made them more evil is that fact that they couldn't know for sure if this was a legend or not. And just went with the killings because of some tell tale.
The doubters seem to be from those that married into the family, not the core family members. The core members know of other families being wiped out, and that family members who do not follow the ritual mysteriously die
There are some theory's that say that the game simply needs to resolve with the family killing the hider, or the hider surviving until sunrise. The domas family could have possibly survived if they followed the rules of the game to la baile's rules and not attacked grace after it had concluded.
It's interesting to note that the ambiguity of the rules beyond the recording of the phonograph are probably not written down anywhere as they serve as evidence for the sacrificial murders. As such, this turns the game itself into a generational time bomb, as the rules slowly get twisted and unnecessary restrictions are added accidentally as they are mistaken for a rule. This is most likely intentional design given the lengths of time between games of Hide-and-Seek- most Le Dumas family members typically only experience one death game per lifetime. This means that eventually, as the ruleset decays over time, the family winds up disadvantaging themselves to the point where they are all but guaranteed to lose, as we see happens in the film.
See that’s what I genuinely believe. I feel like if they would have burst immediately if it meant dying when they lose, but they only burst after they try to kill her. So that’s what I thought when I first saw it.
The rest of his family is super stupid and gullible for enabling him. Being so gullible may have made them deserve him. This should go into the analysis.
Perfect cast of characters from a masterpiece of a horror comedy movie to be reviewing on your channel. Plus Daniel is the only person in this family I felt sympathy for.
He's the only one that actually got character development in the movie. He actually told his wife about the game ahead of time and she still went through with it. Then she betrays him as well. Talk about greed
“The nature of psychological compulsion is such that those who act under constraint remain under the impression that they are acting on their own initiative. The victim of mind-manipulation does not know that he is a victim. To him the walls of his prison are invisible, and he believes himself to be free. That he is not free is apparent only to other people. His servitude is strictly objective.” -Aldous Huxley, Brave New World
I must say one of my favorite parts about these videos is the fact that he says “featuring” the evil that he is discussing, as if he is to bring them for a friendly guest interview.
I remember watching a review of this movie on the Dead Meat Channel and I agree wholeheartedly that it's extremely unwise to make a deal with the Devil. But it does give insight of some elite families that are willing to do anything for wealth and power.
That's a great comment, and truer than most people realize. It's extremely interesting in the movie how the dialogue differentiates Grace (a fitting name choice) as being too "red blooded" to be part of a "blue blooded" family. It makes me question just how exactly these old-money, "blue blooded" families obtained their wealth in the "real world."
Interesting how some elites/wealthy fail to see that, if you have to make a deal promising to give up something that was given to you to begin with (your soul) to get wealth/power, it’ll never truly be yours.
@pyropulse Hello! I believe the dialogue between Grace and Becky LeDomas has Becky stating that she was told she wouldn't be accepted in the family, and one of the reasons was because of her being too "red blooded."
One of the most satisfying endings I’ve seen in a movie. Some villains I’d love to see in future episodes: Adrian Griffin (The Invisible Man 2020) Billy Loomis (Scream) Gus Fring (Breaking Bad) Todd Alquist (Breaking Bad) Dane Vogel (Saints Row 2) Frank Tenpenny (Grand Theft Auto San Andreas) The Armitage Family (Get Out) Red (Us) Herbert West (Re-Animator)
I can't help but wonder how a member of the family could escape this curse other than through death. I get the impression that playing the game is the true induction into the curse, so could a family member perhaps escape by completely repudiating the games? I ask because I don't think that being born into the family is enough, demons often require their partner to have free will to reject the deal freely.
Not a Christian myself, but if the devil exists in the story, then God exists too. In both Christianity and Islam, if you assert your belief and allegiance to God and disavow evil then that should save you. However, if you are a truly good person, you would refuse regardless.
Ever thought of talking about Milo from "The Last Boy Scout"? He's a very interesting villain because on the surface he's well mannered and polite but underneath, he's psychotic with a morbid sense of humor. Can you do Homelander next? A man who has powers like a god, but has the mind of a devil while portraying himself like an angel. Would really love to see you cover him.
This was a great movie, and you made a good point in saying the devil always gets his due. People don't seem to realize that regardless of the wealth and power they get in making pacts with Satan, there is always hell to pay and eternity is a long time. Mark 8:36 'For what shall it profit a man, if he should gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?'
You'll only have a little to go off of since he gets redeemed pretty quickly, like he spends most of the comics as either just doing his own thing or being an ally to mark.
Please a must that needs to be done is Nina Myers from "24." She was an amazing villain who, as put by the show's hero, Jack Bauer, she's a traitor who believes in nothing. Her MO is unknown and will do business and kill anyone in order to preserve one thing....herself. She's someone who fits the definition of evil. This was a great video as well.
I also love the relationship between Daniel and Charity, because it shows just how messed up the deal with the devil has made the Le Domas family. Charity's primary reason for persuing Daniel was for his family's money and Daniel probably believed that with his family's fucked up traditions, she was the best he was ever going to get. And even then, it's subtly shown that he was still a much better person than Alex was, because he was forthcoming about the ritual and satanism with Charity and let her make an informed decision to go through with it or not. Also, for added sadness, while Charity may be a gold digger, there's some indication that while Daniel's money was her main reason for marrying him, she did genuinely care about him at the very least. Note her bursting into tears as she says "You don't care if I die" and the absolute look of horror on her face when she realizes she actually shot him. Daniel and Charity's relationship only forms a tiny fraction of the script and story, but man, we learn so much about the Le Domas family and their dealings from the few lines they get.

Hi vile eye. Love these videos and am always waiting on the next one. You would be great at doing this series as a university course. I would definitely come to class.
So sorry for your friend man. I hope he pulls through. One day I hope to write a script and have a movie made about a world where the god most commonly believed in our world is definitely 100% real. But all the cruel and unfair suffering that takes place still happens which makes the debate about why he allows it much more complicated. As an atheist, I’ve never had too make up an excuse for god causing/allowing innocents too live in pain and detrimental poverty, as I believe that it happens because he’s not real. But if I was given absolute, undeniable evidence that the all powerful, all loving, and all knowing being known as god is in fact real, I think you could make a brilliant Analysing Evil video about how he’s worshipped by those who have everything, whilst those who have nothing are left wondering why he would leave them too suffer
Episode suggestion: Megatron. He’s actually had more than a few incarnations, from the most well-known version of the animated series, to the IDW comics version of revolutionary to mass murderer to joining the Autobots to redeem himself.
This movie was pretty awesome, the family was a bit shallow though. Hopefully one day you'll cover bullseye from the daredevil Netflix series. He's a fantastically written character
I wonder if you’re gonna make a 2nd tier list ranking of all the villains you’ve covered once you hit the 90th or 100th episode of analyzing evil characters in fiction or when the channel hits 500k subscribers.
Excellent analysis, as always! 😃🙏 The religious subtext in this film is undeniable. I always saw Grace as protected by God. She has not sold herself like previous members of the family (like Charity) who married into it for wealth. Daniel even mentions his wife is a "gold digger" and Grace "has a soul". Grace truly loves Alex and was a foster child, so she always longed for a real family. Her name Grace has a religious connotation. She is dressed in her white wedding dress throughout the film, making her seem like an avenging angel. At one point she stabs her hand with a nail, resembling the stigmata. Daniel is another interesting character who atones for the sins of his childhood, sacrificing himself like a martyr to save Grace's life. Even Mr. Lebail is impressed with her strength and fortitude at the end. She was the one to finally break the curse. That's my take on it, anyway. Best wishes to your friend in his fight against cancer. 🥰
this was my first ever horror movie and I remember getting sick at that scene inside that well. My friend and I spent the next two weeks or so talking about that scene when we're eating just so we can immediately lose out appetite (:
When you make a deal with a demon or the devil himself. Eventually the bill comes due and in then Le Domas Family it came in the form of Grace and she collected it in badass fashion. Great pick from Walter King and I hope that he pulls through. Also evil can corrupt a single person or a whole family.
I think what made them more evil is that fact that they couldn't know for sure if this was a legend or not. And just went with the killings because of some tell tale.
right! they only fear losing not being wrong
The doubters seem to be from those that married into the family, not the core family members. The core members know of other families being wiped out, and that family members who do not follow the ritual mysteriously die

Also, if you can appreciate criminally underrated movies, I'll recommend Rick Masters from To Live And Die In LA.
An episode to be excited about.
This movie was pretty awesome, the family was a bit shallow though.
Hopefully one day you'll cover bullseye from the daredevil Netflix series. He's a fantastically written character
Love this movie.
Love this movie, what a pick! Excited to watch this.
I would like to see an episode on the Byrde family from Ozark.
Sort of unrelated, but i feel this actress would've made a perfect Harley Quinn. MR is meh, but this girl was born for it.
I wonder if you’re gonna make a 2nd tier list ranking of all the villains you’ve covered once you hit the 90th or 100th episode of analyzing evil characters in fiction or when the channel hits 500k subscribers.
Excellent analysis, as always! 😃🙏
The religious subtext in this film is undeniable.
Analyzing evil of Jason Voorhees?
I would love to hear your take on Henry and Otis from Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. A contrast between their two different types of evils.
Would love to see Blanche from Whatever Happened to Baby Jane and the wife from Presumed Innocent. Love your work!
Very good review of this dark comedy.
Do an analyzing evil on Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls.
this was my first ever horror movie and I remember getting sick at that scene inside that well. My friend and I spent the next two weeks or so talking about that scene when we're eating just so we can immediately lose out appetite (:
this was a nice surprise! i love this movie :)
When you make a deal with a demon or the devil himself. Eventually the bill comes due and in then Le Domas Family it came in the form of Grace and she collected it in badass fashion.
Great pick from Walter King and I hope that he pulls through. Also evil can corrupt a single person or a whole family.
Frank Underwood from House of Cards would be a fantastic episode.
Rick Masters from To Live and Die in LA
Bodhi from Point Break
Raymond from The Vanishing
I never noticed that Labeil was just an anagram for the demon Belial lol
