    10:45 this is incorrect, the back element has to be indexed. There’s one side of the back element that’s a little bit lower. If you don’t index correctly, the depth of field preview lever inside the lens mount of the camera will scrape against the lens.

      Can you advise on how to index it right?? Will marking the position help while dismantling?

    Thank you for a great video. How do you repair scuffs or tiny scratches on front or rear lens elements? Thank you for your prompt response.

      Hi, there is not really magic solution for that, repolishing is alway an option, but it will remove the coatings and change the geometry, so, if it does not really affect image quality, I'd say leave it. Best.

    Thanks for this video, do you think I can do the same to remove fungus or I have to unmount each glass?

    • @diyextravaganza
      @diyextravaganza  2 года назад

      Hi, it would really depend on where the fungus is located. If it is on the same region, you're good, If not, you'll have to disassemble further. Cheers.

    Why didn't you soften the glue with acetone first? Why take the chance of breaking the screws?

      Honestly, I did not think about it. I'll try that technique in the future. Thanks for the tip !

    I found your video here getting very good informations, but the specimen I would like to clean has the focus ring stuck so the first step of the disasembly is not possible for me. Any tip for it?

    • @diyextravaganza
      @diyextravaganza  4 года назад +1

      I does not move at all? I'll try to rotate it just enough to reach the screw. Otherwise, put a few drops of lighter fluid between the first ring you're supposed to remove and the focus ring, wait, repeat, wait, repeat, eventually grease will dissolve enough to let you move the focus ring. Had this with a 55 f/1.2, took some time until it moved but it did ruclips.net/video/mP3dq1R5y8s/видео.html

      @@diyextravaganza Thanks very much, i'll try that! btw, It would be very usefull in your videos to have the exact name of the products you are using, would be a usefull reference to start diy-ing whit. Cheers!

    Hi, I noticed that when the aperture blades on this lens are stopped down fully (f16) the opening is not symmetrical. Did you notice this? Is this normal for this lens? Thanks

    • @diyextravaganza
      @diyextravaganza  3 года назад

      Hello, to be honest I have never paid attention to that but now that you mention it. I just checked 2 lenses and they are not symmetrical. Best.

      @@diyextravaganza Thanks for the information. The blades are also asymmetrical on my lens. It is more obvious when looking through the rear element with a light. Curious why it was designed this way.

      @@shawnmilano223 Indeed, thanks for pointing that interesting fact out.

    Would you please help? Which of these material will remove the Leica m lens coating: 99% isopropyl, hydrogen peroxide and lighter fluid (Zippo). Thank

    • @diyextravaganza
      @diyextravaganza  10 месяцев назад

      Hi, I don't think any of those will remove the coating. Coatings are actually metallic deposits, so, you'll need something that eats metal, but that's stuff you cannot get easily if you're not a professional. Best.
