    For those that don't know on Android phones (I'd guess that Apple phones have similar functionality) you can connect to the WiFi of the restaurant and then turn hotspot on. The portal then connect to your phone hotspot and you phone is connected to the restaurant WiFi. So the portal will be using the restaurant WiFi via your phone.

    • @edulohay956
      @edulohay956 Месяц назад +10

    • @MrCode4money
      @MrCode4money Месяц назад +8

      @@edulohay956 yeah essentially. The phone acts as a relay / proxy. All traffic would be going through your phone. Deepening on your phone most modern phones have incredible range. So your phone probably has better hardware than the Portal does.
      The main advantage in this use case would be to avoid the pop up T&C's to use the network on the portal. You still have to accept the agreement on your phone but Portal can just "share" your connection via the hotspot.

    • @MrCode4money
      @MrCode4money Месяц назад +5

      Thing is, even if they wanted it to, they probably can't. If it's going to be a handheld, it would have to be a Switch like device and that would compete against their own PS5 or future PS6. Switch works because that is Nintendo's only offering - Sony would have to make the PS6 the Switch copycat with a dock that somehow enhances the graphics immensely.

      Because Sony and Nintendo both know that the market for making spinoffs on a separate handheld has died
      Your smartphone/tablet now has that market
      That's precisely why Nintendo left the market.
      Running PS5 games to console spec on a handheld is difficult, steamdeck can do it but the battery life is atrocious.
      Or do you go the Switch version and have low quality graphics for the sake of better battery life. It works for Nintendo because most of their first party games aren't graphic intensive. If you want to see a PS5 game ported to the switch, look at Mortal Kombat 1.

Handheld consoles and home consoles typically don’t compete with one another, but the Switch is the thin line between the two…AND it’s Nintendo’s only console in the market right now.

    i think this setup could work for some turn based games. Yu-Gi-Oh seems like a great option when your connection is that bad. Bloodborne and Returnal are super fast paced

    Man the PS Portal must suck bad based on your experience because I was literally just on vacation in El Paso TX and I live in San Antonio I left my PS5 at home was at my buddies house on his wifi and was able to easily remoteplay my PS5 on my S24 Ultra with my Backbone OneController perfectly with little to no issue at all. I was able to play GTAV online with my buddy while he was on his PS5 on the TV right next to him while my PS5 was miles away back at home. I was able to complete multiple missions and hold my own with no problem what so ever. So I ask again what is even the point of the PS Portal when it sounds like a Smartphone with the Backbone One controller works better in nearly every instance?

    Naaaaa Playing Video Games out in thr Public is thr Last Thing anyone of us should be doing right now.
    I swear, i brtter not hear a news report about how someone was killed because they got rolled up on while they were distracted playing video games.
    Find somewhere safe and do it there. We dont live in that kinda world for now.
    Awarenesses Is Everything right now.

    Fair testing but Vita did it 10+ years ago. It's not hard phone hotspot or whatever network jumping. Wii U it's local to the Gamepad but regardless of console network access. Public may not be recommended but it is possible.

    Eh wifi is very finicky if you’re doing it the way Mystic goes about here. The wireless signals are having to go through a few pretty thick obstacles (glass/brick etc). These obstacles will attenuate the signal so much that it will only make it harder for your device to provide any semblance of a decent experience. Also, depending on the wireless deployment that you’re connecting to, maybe the Access Points are an older technology that don’t support things like MU-MIMO or 802.11ax. Which adds another layer to an already rough connection.

    You dont need an internet connection at home to handshake, I think this is misunderstanding. Once u are paired with your ps5 its forever. You only need a non internet connected WIFI local network. There are videos showing this. Edit it seems an update may have disabled this.

    Did he really not go to a Walmart? I’m a long-haul truck driver so I know from experience Walmarts generally have great Wi-Fi. Most of these places he’s going to you need to go inside for the Wi-Fi to work properly and he’s trying to do it from his vehicle? Walmarts have those Wi-Fi connection points all around the outside of the building, which is why they have great Wi-Fi from the parking lot.

    I’ll try to make this brief. I hope it makes sense.
    My huge problem with SONY’s gaming “PlayStation Remote Play” APP for my wi-fi Apple iPad Pro, the SONY app (or the PS5 itself) can only connect to my high speed router wired connection over the internet, at a lower 50 Download, and 10 Upload. My home wired internet cable connection sends 400+ Download and 50 Upload. Both my WIRED PS4 and now my PS5, can only connect to the internet at a much lower speed, at all times. I can test my Cable’s Provider service internet router wired cable speed, and it is a steady 400+ Download, and a 50 Upload. I then test the PS5’s WIRED internet settings connection to my router, and the PS5 can only connect to my router (and the internet) at its much lower speed. Also, this iPad Pro “SONY app” is SONY’s most current updated gaming app.
    Note: my wi-fi Apple iPad Pro can connect to the internet at the highest cable speed. No issues.
    I use the SONY “PlayStation Remote Play” app on my “wi-fi Apple high speed iPad Pro” and the Bluetooth PS5 hand controller when I’m at home, and I’m sitting only 5 feet away from my PS5, and 7 feet away from my wired internet router, because the wife is using my high speed wired BIG screen High Resolution TV. It seems the “PlayStation Remote Play” app, first connects to the online Sony server’s, then returns their signal back to my PS5 over the internet. Something is causing HUGE LAG when trying to play games on my new wi-fi iPad Pro!! But, when using my PS5’s wired connection to the router, using my wired connected TV directly has an instant connection for gaming to my PS5, NO GAMING LAG! Or, is the PS5 converting SONY’s returning internet signal internally to a lower speed?
    I’ve read the wired “C” connected Bluetooth new PS5 hand controller could be the problem. But you can’t connect the Bluetooth controller to a iPad with a wire without issues. This doesn’t work. There’s a huge shutter play problem every 5 seconds with a “C” wired connection to the iPad. The PS5’s hand controller internal voice seems to be the problem. BUT, the PS4 wired Hand Controller to the PS5, converted PS4 connection works perfectly with its connection. But PS4 also connects at the much lower internet speed.
    I’ve searched the Internet for a solution to this problem.
    WHY… can’t my new wired PS5, connect with my home router wired network at this higher speed, that my router sends to the PS5!!! All my other wired, or wi-fi connected devices, always connects at the speed my router sends out. BUT, NEVER the PS5 for general gaming, or using the “PlayStation Remote Play” app with my iPad Pro.

    God, watching you play Bloodborne on the portal was like when I tried remote playing it on my Vita.
    This device is just overpriced for how limited it is. I think if it was $100 or $150 it would be more appropriately priced. I can do everything the portal does with my Steam Deck to the PS5 and then some. Sure it's double the price, but it offers everything the Portal does and more.
