I am a commission artist of 6 years. I have major depressive disorder that makes life unbearable sometimes, here's how I manage to not be in this situation. Firstly, if you feel bad - don't take more comms. Easy as that. Tell your commissioners an estimated date when you will be able to start working again. It's that easy. Secondly. You can't just fucking keep taking comms if you can't handle what you already got in a month's time. Estimate the amount of work you think you can manage and reduce it by 20% for emergencies. That's the amount of work you can take on. Taking a 20 emote commission means you don't take any more comms this month and focus on this one. Even if it takes you a day to finish 1 emote (which is insane), you're still having 10-11 days for rest. And the commissioner gets what they purchased. Thirdly. If you draw slowly - that's on you. You can either up the prices so they reflect your workflow better and you don't end up working 8hrs a day for 40$ (for example) or work at a normal job untill you draw faster. Speed is a skill you can work on. Don't make it a commissioners problem, if you can't finish shit in a month - do commissions step by step - take 5 emotes a month instead of 20. In 4 months the commissioner will have all the emotes and nobody will be hurt and forgotten. It's really sad if shit happens to you, but it's not commissioners problem. If you can't provide the service anymore - refund them. If you can't make a living drawing the amount of art that is realistic for you - get another job in the meantime, art will not run away from you! You can improve while being fed and clothed. You need time to build both skills and the audience that will want to buy stuff for you. Why am I writing this? I think that they kept taking new comms because they needed more money for rent and stuff without having time and energy to complete the comms. The problems that are easily solvable by having a job before you get good, fast, and known to make more money easily.

At the moment I'm feeling pretty bad that it's taking me a couple months to finish a couple sets of commissioned pieces, but 3 years is pretty ridiculous. It's understandable to some extent if you have an injury or are experiencing artblock or burnout, I deal with the latter two every once in a while myself, but at some point you just have to refund and move on.
By this point, you should start being careful on what artist to commission. I mean, 2.5 years and 900 Euros wasted for emotes that probably won't come to fruition isn't exactly worth it. Then again, the client had the patience of a saint, that person I respect.

If you are unable to fulfill the decent thing is to refund them then and there say your sorry and move on. Instead of bragging about how much payouts ur getting from doing femdom nsfw on ur alt account. However, more people shouldn’t feel awkward or guilty over making callouts or psas (if it’s them truly being ignorant and brushing everything off still taking customers with a long due list ect) because it’s just shitty indecent behavior being excused under the guise of “i’m sorry ill get to it soon” and then another year passes. It’s why I always tell the artists I don’t care what update you have to bring me physical or text just tell me something to give me solace.
and i thought waiting 4 months whilst being ghosted and having to contact the artists friends just to get him to start drawing ALL FOR A $16 COMMISSION was bad
brO and here i am dying cuz i can't find anyone that i would gladly commission art to and here this person building more trust issues for people who just want their characters drawn.
I suffer from hand pain and wrist pain as an artist. When I take commissions I never ask to get paid if I don't have a draft that is to the liking of the customer. Also, even with my fucknig hand pain I have never been so shameless as to make the customers wait more than 1 or 2 days over the time limit. If the pain is really bad I wouldn't even think about taking a commission and sometimes I even say to the customer that for health reasons It could take me some extra time (but the goal is to finish it before the deadline). And if by some disaster I wasn't able to finish the drawing I charge them back all the money. I can never understand artists that get paid and never finish the commission.

Never pay in full up front!
and i thought waiting 4 months whilst being ghosted and having to contact the artists friends just to get him to start drawing ALL FOR A $16 COMMISSION was bad
Might as well refund you bruh that’s just a McDonald’s meal price 😭
@@UnderTheMoon3 right i dont even like the finished product either
brO and here i am dying cuz i can't find anyone that i would gladly commission art to and here this person building more trust issues for people who just want their characters drawn.
Just viewed her page. It looks like they worked out getting her refund!
she deleted her art acct 💀
Sheeshh
Nah more than the allotted time I'm requesting a refund. I need proof if there's none. get charge back. Sincerely an artist. lol
Lol I take one month MAX for a commission cuz I have irl work and uni. 3 Months is A LOT unless is some 7k x 7k canvas
Could go for a class action lawsuit :)
Are your thumbnails inspired by Mujin?

Artists are some of the biggest doormats I’ve met. And that is coming from an ex-professional graphic designer. My corporate ass would be coming for you the second you are past due, let alone YEARS. With every Tom Dick and Harry being an artist nowadays, I give zero second chances. 😂
FIRST?
I was stalking hihih 🤭
Congrats!
Can someone remind me to watch this later when there’s comments I love reading the comments 😣
