Fire Service on a US Elevator. Very glitchy and unsafe by today's standards.

  • (11-29-2009) This is a fire service demonstration on a 1984 US elevator. Fire service on these older elevators is a lot different and arguable a lot less safer. First of all no call cancel except at the recall floor. Second: the elevator can be run from another floor while in fire service with no fire key which could in theory strand the fire fighters. Also when you are not at the recall floor and register a call, it will go to the first call you registered which could be lethal in the wrong situation. Anyway I am so happy that fire service has been standardized on newer elevators. It is a lot safer for the fire fighters that would need to use the elevator as a tool during an evacuation.

    Well, the in car signage may be wrong regarding “call canceling”. But the arrival lantern doesn’t “ring” when on Fire Recall. That red button “that does nothing”, isn’t a button. Read the writing on the button cap. This “non button” lights up during the recall itself. It illuminates during the recall function. This U.S. Elevator is early 1980’s vintage, like 1984 or thereabouts. Fire Service, apart from you believing it should or shouldn’t behave in a certain way, seemed to operate under the code that was in force 30 some years ago. Until the elevator is brought down to the main fire floor while on phase two (in the car), you can indeed turn phase two off inside the car and it will still run on phase two until it’s brought to the main fire floor, “1” in this case and the doors open fully and remain open. Then phase two is dropped out of the control circuitry. Then phase one can be turned off to return the car to automatic service, then the lantern will ding. It’s not unsafe as some understood your description to be.

    • @DieselDucy
      @DieselDucy  2 года назад

      it could potentially put firefighters at risk.

    • @SPUDWRENCH
      @SPUDWRENCH 2 года назад

      @@DieselDucy everything is “potentially” dangerous. But like I said, other than the improper signage, it does seem to work according to 30 year old code requirements. “In theory, ANYONE could come and do this”. Sure if they had the fire recall key to begin with, and I’m sure their aren’t to many people walking about with an old US 35 recall key.

    See, that thing at 3:30 where you didn't know where it was going, would be very unsafe in a real fire. Most elevators give you COMPLETE control, but this one seems to still do some *important* things on it's own. Not having a call cancel? Yeah. That could be deadly if you accidentally hit the button and can't get off.

    • @DieselDucy
      @DieselDucy  3 года назад +1

      This is off topic but I tried finding the interlock on my washer. I believe it is inside the hinge. Most of them are behind the lid but I can't find any interlock on the outside of the washer. Also that is my issue with this fire service. No way to cancel calls from upstairs. VERY dangerous for the fire fighters.

    • @isaac24
      @isaac24 6 месяцев назад

      This is a REALLY late reply, but I looked at some videos of washers like yours and similar. Unlike the older style of those machines which just have it under the lid, it looks like yours is mounted either under the control panel, or in the actual cabinet unfortunately. Which means that you would have to take either the control panel or the cabinet off (or both) to get to it. And yeah. This elevator would have been a liability during an actual fire. Although I would think that since it's a parking garage, they wouldn't have used it anyway.
