How to win an FTL run! Crystal A, no pause, hard mode edition!

- After a HORRIBLE day of bad RNG on the Fed A, we switch ships and get a much needed win on the Crystal A! Strangely, once we got a couple of Flak 1's, we got a win...imagine that! For every person who says Flak 1 is OP, I say...FTL's RNG needs to be nerfed, we need at least one OP weapon! GG cookie time! -- Watch live at / rand118

Can you do a new challenge? Be a really naive captain!
This means you have to intentionally help other ships even though you know the risks (different from you super hero challenge). Must do the giant alien spider quest, must shield your ship against asteroids for that poorly dmg ship, accept drinks from the slug sector, always let other ships surrender, etc.
You don't have to always save other ships from pirates (since you believe that pirate's words), you can choose to accept pirate's bribe at will; being a naive captain means you always believe in other people's words, that include always giving out scraps if able.
Quests do not have to be finished every single time.
Hah, that's a great suggestion, I like it! I'll have to give that a shot when I need a break from this "How to win..." series. Maybe I'll do that this Thursday or next week, thanks for the suggestion, Li Beidi!

I have know clue who you are or what game this is, but I respect you listening and replying to your fans.
Wanna thank you for this series. I've been playing FTL on and off casually for years and have STILL never beaten the flagship on hard mode with any ship (feels bad, man), but watching your play recently I've gotten extremely close twice. I know victory is coming.
Nice, Franciscus! That's exactly why I started this series, to help people get that first win, or first hard mode win, or, God forbid, their first hard mode, no pause win! This game is unforgiving, but gives one of the greatest feelings of accomplishment when you beat that flagship! Good luck on getting that hard mode win (I suggest Lanius B, it's super OP, lol).

Good run, flaks pulled it out of the bag.
In 70 hours of play I had one run with dual flak IIs and the pre-igniter. That run got me the first volley pre-igniter kill achievement. Fun stuff
Ironic that both rock dudes died in the very end.

I just found this game the other day bought it and now wish I had seen this video first the rng pain in the arse is really annoying.
Yeah, this game is super tough and punishing, especially to new players. Making the best decision is something you only learn from MANY runs and choosing the wrong decision a LOT! Keep at it though, the first win is super rewarding!

Did you ever do a boarding only challenge? And if so, how can I find it? (Weapons banned)
I did, but I can't find the video...I have WAY too many FTL videos and playlists, lol. I don't have time to track it down, but there's at least one video where we killed with only boarding and one video where we killed with only fire. Good luck finding them!

What does crystal dudes do exactly? New to FTL here
They can also lockdown a room by covering the walls with crystals. With a large boarding party, you could board the Medbay or a room you want to take out and lock it down and destroy it before enemies can defend it.
Crystal dudes have 125 Hp, take half damage from no Oxygen, and have a special ability called "Lockdown." This effectively keeps any crew (even your own) from moving in or out of the room, no matter how many times they shoot the door. This makes them extremely effective boarders because they can keep crew from going to heal or from stopping them doing damage to a system they're attacking.

FTL being frustrating? You should try darkest dungeon
Lol...not sure if that's a sarcastic comment or not...but Darkest Dungeon can be even WORSE than FTL when it comes to punishing enemies. Great game! But ever since the blood curse expansion, I've kinda been done with the trolliness of Darkest Dungeon.

Why are you not using the crystal power?
...what? Do you mean to keep boarders out of rooms? That is something I need to do more often. I usually only think of crystal lockdown when I'm boarding, so using it defensively is definitely something I should do more. This video is a little older, so hopefully I'm better at this now.
