Thanks man that was a review that was an actual review and actually useful! A rare gem on modern youtube
Nice mixing too
thank you!
drums sound great, where they tracked through the GB4's preamps?
OMG, Ain't got a clue of how it works, but I wanna purchase one soon, and I can see I got a hefty task ahead of me😊
Great video though!👍
Nice video, Zed! The Soundcraft sounds much cleaner than your Behringer, which was a little warmer and rough sounding. You can hear reverbs easier and the soundstage is deeper, in my opinion. You made a great choice and I hope you have the best time mixing!
Thanks mate! Yes right, I think it has also a bit more headroom.
Thank you so much for the though tutorial. Most engineers are terrible at throughly explaining this well.
I like the sound of that board.
Nice sounding EQs on Soundcraft
Thanks for the great video. This is off topic, i know, but - how do you connect all of your outboard great (compressors, effects etc.)? Do you connect directly to channels and groups via inserts/AUX or do you use a patchbay? Thanks
Hello Zed! I know this is an old video, but GREAT Great JOB!!! I have just one question, I see you are able to playback all your tracks through the GB4's chanel strips, what kind of interface are you using that allows you to do this? I have the same Soundcraft GB4 in my studio but going into my (out dated) Presonus 18/18 VSL with a Digimax 8ch conected I am only able to play back through the virtual mixer in the daw master out through the 6 aux sends and 2 main outs of the interface ... I would be happier than a butcher's dog to be able to use the Soundcraft console in the final mixdown like what I see you doing in this video... Any advice on this is much appreciated... Kindest Regards DW
Hey! I use 3x Presonus Firestudio Projects in Cascade Mode - giving me 24 analog outputs in total. However, those are discontinued for quite some time. The new version is the Quantum 4848, which has even more outputs.
Happy 4th of July Zed, I recently purchased the 24 track version of the Soundcraft GB 4 as an addition to my home studio, I love the sound so far. I am wondering if you have any tips on a setup for monitoring while tracking. I am looking to use the group busses to combine signals from several mics to 2 tracks recording back to my DAW at a time (example: blending 3 mics on a guitar amp-and record a 2 track stereo mix of those mics back to the DAW). The problem I am running into is as I build arrangements in the studio, hearing the click and what I have already completed in the song, and be able to monitor the current instrument/voice I want to record (making eq adjustments) to record the desired signal. I guess this is mainly a routing question, I have been searching the net for over a week to find the answer to this problem. Thanks so much for your time. I am enjoying your channel.
Hi! You can use a split console layout. One half for recording and one half for monitoring. For example use Subgroup 1-2 as a recording bus to the DAW and route all recording channels to it. The other half of the console are the monitoring channels - drums, instruments, vocals and click. Route those to the L-R Mixbus for monitoring.
Thanks for the video. I'm looking to purchase this board, but, I have an unaswered question maybe you can answer. How do you manage the connections? Do you keep both mic ins and line ins connected simultaneously? How can you switch between both sources? Do you have to physically remove one or the other ?
I use it only for mixing so line inputs are always plugged in. There is no button to switch between mic and line inputs so you have to physically remove them. Another solution would be to split the board and use the left channels for mixing and the right side for recording, depending how many inputs you need.
I’m looking to get this same console. It will be my first one I’ve ever worked on . Any advice on set up ?
I love this console. Thank you for this informative video. Keep it up 👍🏻
What interface do u use for all these 24 tracks ???????
I need a good one that’s not too expensive i wish this console had one built in :/
Presonus Firestudio Project, three of them actually. But they are discontinued. I recommend Presonus Quantum 4848.
Hi which interface you have connected to the mixer? Does it have direct 32 direct outs? or what's the routing to connect the 32 channels to computer and vice versa. TIA
Second this question, wondering the same thing also.
EDIT: Found the answer!
He did an older video where he showed he has three Presonus Firestudio Project interfaces daisy-chained together for all the analog/digital I/O
Great video man very informative .. Looking even more forward to use my new GB4-16. But what do you use to get the separate tracks from logic to individual channels on desk?
Thank you! I use 3x Presonus Firestudio Projects to get 22 channels to the desk. 23 and 24 are for the 2-Track monitoring.
Zed Marty Production Thank you for that bro ... looking into the Presonus now. :)
Hi. Could we have a video on how you connected this to logic and Mac? That would be super handy.
I have a video series „Hybrid Mixing“ about that on my channel. In part 1 and 2 I show the connections and routings in Logic Pro.
Great! Now you use the same system as me (I'm A&H GL3800), how do you use all of its channels? After all, the audio card only has 24 tracks. I'm looking forward to your update.
Nice, the A&H is a great board! Yes, right the audio interface has only 24 outputs. I use the other tracks for external fx units returns and parallel compression. (direct output of one channel to line input of another channel with the comp inserted)
External fx units return is a good idea!So that you can avoid some signal loss (because, AUX channel has too many signaling pathways) and also can use EQ on FX, but I have to share with you the consequences of an I use parallel compression - before, when I use direct output to the compressor and back to the other channel, the signal has a little delay resulting in phase distortion, so I always use the old way, using the parallel compression on the marshalling channel
What model AD/DA convertor are you using to get in and out of the DAW on your Mac? Thanks and nice video.
Thank you! I have 3x Presonus Firestudio Project cascaded.
@@ZedMartyProduction I will have to check them out. I am currently using a stand alone digital 24 track recorder. When I start using a DAW, I will need a decent low latency AD/DA convertor(s).
Great Video, but i have a question. How did you get every track of the song from Computer in to one own channel in your Mixer? And whats the name of the program?
Thanks! I use Logic Pro X as my main software and 3x Presonus Firestudio Projects connected to the channels of the mixer. You basically just need an audio interface that has at least as many outputs as the mixer has inputs so you can route the tracks from the computer to each channel of the mixer.
@@ZedMartyProduction Thanks, you're the best
@@ZedMartyProduction It could work with a Allen & Heath GL2400?
Has your mixes improved with the sound craft vs behringer mixer...and what are the noticeable differences....
The first impressions are really promising so far. I find that the headroom of the groups & mixbus is much more forgiving in terms of distortion.
The EQ, especially the high frequency band (12kHz) sounds much more pleasing - even if you push it.
Mute groups are very handy. You can move much quicker when you want to focus on certain elements of the mix and mute multiple tracks.
Noise level seems to be quite a bit lower, even though the Behringer was actually quite okay if you used proper gain staging.
How do you get audio from a digital source to the analog console? With all those different channels like vocals and drums
With an audio interface that has many outputs - you basically need as much outputs as the console has channels. I have a video series on my channel about that - search for "Hybrid Mixing Setup".
@@ZedMartyProduction thank you
Hello there! Are the presonus FirewireStudio Project´s Analog Outputs balanced or unbalanced outputs?
Balanced
Thanks for this. Very good info, and I know it took you some time.
I'm looking for a high quality studio mixer - have you compared it to any of the Allen and heath mixers. I'm curious how it compares to the 'studio mixers' since this is a live sound mixer - such as the signature / mtk, zed, mixwiz etc. I notice you seem to boost the highs - do you think the mixer has a tendency to reduce high frequencies and dull the sound? How would you describe the sound of this mixer? Also why so many buttons near the faders - seems tricky for live use if anything. Thanks
Hi! Haven‘t compared it to other mixers like Allen Heath but I had a Behringer MX8000. I‘d describe the sound of the Soundcraft as neutral with quite low self noise. High frequencies don‘t get reduced or damped. The EQs are much better than on my old Behringer board and the preamps have more headroom. The buttons near the faders are for subgroups and mute groups, which I find very handy because you can mute multiple channels at once if you need to.
what ad/da converter did you use to connect to the cpu???
3x Presonus Firestudio Projects, however they are discontinued by now. The new version is the Quantum 4848.
Zed! That console works like an interface? Or u need to use an external one?
You need an external interface, with quite a lot of outputs to feed the channels of the mixer.
Zed Marty Production got my GB8. Love it. What are you using to output to daw? I notice the line outs from every track. Thanks for the videos.
I use 3x Presonus Firestudio Project interfaces giving me 24 analog outputs.
Zed Marty Production How do you record electric guitar? If you d I do you go into presonus? Or do you always mic an amp?
How did you route all your tracks from your DAW to Soundcraft mixer??
Several DA/AD converters. He has a playlist on his hybrid mixing procedure. I think he addresses this in the "routing" video.
Bello bello sonido cálido y muy dinámico como poco los hay BRAVO
HOW YOUR PATCH FROM THE RECORD MODE TO MIX THANKS
Can you use the same setup on live?
Very helpful videos!
You can't compare a Behringer mixer with this beauty!
Oh hell no!
คูณใช้ interface กี่ตัว
Very nice sound!
hey. each channel of that mixer have their own dbx or any brand of compressor limiter?
no, there‘s no compression on the channels. But you can insert them.
@@ZedMartyProduction really? but it's that ok if i install compressor in every channel of that mixer?
Sure!
@@ZedMartyProduction and also is that ok too if i put compressor in auxiliary like aux 1? then send to compressor and return to compressors respective channel? like example i have 32 channel. i connect the compressor to aux 1 and return to 32 channel mixer. is that okay too? i mean in every channel it will have a compressor and then in every channel also have auxiliary compressor?
Compressors should be inserted at the dedicated insert connections of each channel. Aux are only for FX units and headphone feeds.
Thanks for the video! What is the song?
Kirill PRTSK It‘s a cover of Heart Attack by Asteroids Galaxy Tour. I recorded that a couple of years ago together with a friend.
Whats the point of outputting to a live desk? The EQs sound like garbage and they're usually really noisey. Must cost you a fortune in converters and cables. Just stay in the DAW.
excellent
Love you bro good
Cool!!!
Rs .
niceeeee
Hey Marty, could you give me your email? I’m using the same console and DAW as you & would like to pick your brain a little on some things with how it’s setup.
