The way Dave “hides the seams” of the phrases and continues across the bar line is so incredibly hip. That’s the kind of thing I remember learning in jazz school. So cool to see it in this genre too.
David is my favorite current bluegrass guitar player, he holds the torch seamlessly with his own unique approach. His band also has the perfect dynamic. What a tasteful player!
Truly great, down home feel, so traditional and yet modern too. The violin tone and phrasing is beautiful, every instrument is perfect, and so is the mix.
Couple of "One & Onlies" in this band. Mr Grier always surprising, always involving.Too good to not comment on. Love Stu-Bob's insistent "Stoney Lonesome" quote.
Great tempo and feel...love the way David uses his mid and lower range. Most versions of this tune sound like a damn typewriter. Kids, ask grandpa what that is!! 😎
Kudos to the bassist in this group for keeping the soloists on track and in sync. It could have gotten out-of-control when the tempo picked up, but didn't. Nice job!
Seriously, though, I had my Bluetooth on listening, but not watching, during the first fiddle solo and it made me envision the underside of spruce limbs: kind of droopie. Stuart Duncan is a wizard, really .
Even the faster paced verses had a nice sort of dance cadence to it compared to the usual driving Salt Creek style. It lets the players add some character.
I think a lot of fiddle songs have great melodies that get a little lost at the super high tempos, and nobody can really creatively improvise around the melody at those paces; I think a lot of fiddle tunes in particular and bluegrass songs more generally benefit from a little pull back in tempo.
8:09 …. David got bored( again) and had to get into the minor pentatonics. I like how this whole jam is a fine demonstration of the ‘new grass’ revolution, where jazz and hippy influences bend the feel away from straight up bluegrass
We need more music like this.
Perfect to jam along with - until the faster part LOL.

He takes Clarence's treatment of syncopation to the next level. I guess that's what a lifetime of immersion will do for you. Well done sir.
Love the sound of that banjo
And Stuart's Fiddle

Yessir ... David Grier is like a continuation of Clarence White. Gives me chill bumps...

Five instruments, all absolutely top class. Don't get any better than this.
One of the most unique voices in the work of guitar
No doubt - Dave has a truly unique approach and way of thinking about the tune.

Phenomenal band and performance. The second banjo solo was really outstanding.
Wow, what a treat that was!! Played phenomenally!! For me, Mr. Duncan stole the show it sounded like he was channeling Vassar!! Amazing!
The one and only!
Smooth, fellas
From his new album Another Nashville Night... great!
Band sounds amazing. David is the master!!!
I had to say 1 more thing. Perfection in music is almost never reached. But you got there !!! And best version of Salt Creek in history !
That was fun! Thanks for playing!
I’m learning Cattle in the Cane right now. I don’t see how ppl can play that fast. I screw up almost every time. This is a great song.
Great music all around, and one of my favorite flatpicking tunes. Yay, David and Stuart, I miss the jams at the Fiddle House!
You’re amazing Muriel!
I have no words...
Nice break on the 5,tasty.1.15......woo hooo!
Much due applause!!!
A great accent when you speeded up the tune near the end. Wow! Fantastic playing!!!

Very good, these guys can play some music, they sounded great on every break, I could listen to this all day long, great musicians.
Seriously, though, I had my Bluetooth on listening, but not watching, during the first fiddle solo and it made me envision the underside of spruce limbs: kind of droopie. Stuart Duncan is a wizard, really .
Not usually a favorite tune of mine but wow, just....wow.
Wow superb job, all!! Enjoyable
2:38 to 2:50. A little reminder of why DG is most versatile in the pocket guitar picker. Freaking genius
Wow... That's some fresh interpretation.....

Just 👌perfection! Feelin’ it! 🎶♥️
David is such a fine player and has chosen wisely to have the fabulous Stuart Duncan on fiddle for this one!
Fantastic bass playing!

Yeaaaaaah….. so this is pretty filthy.
A bunch of bad to the bone pickers. Sounds so good ,and great creative guitar arranging.

Freaking ridiculous
