That would be unironically useful for 4* (so long as the % is decent) 4* has no source of AOE RES reduction and it makes some maps like h7-4 a lot harder than they otherwise would be.
@qurt5101 plus the spin upon the doll spawning can also make up for some lost damage unlike bena or obviously verdant but then again bena has a more tanky doll. Kaze is probably the best dollkeeper outside of spalter if we are being honest, if only verdant took a page from any of the other dollkeeper's books on how to deal decent damage with doll or atleast not lose most of his damage when he changes
Verdant is here for husbando knights basically. It helps that he is as pretty as a doll too. One silver lining is as a constant arrow bait to tank as much as Gravel does.
Holy shit that s2 idea is really cool, would actually synergize with his kit. Ngl I’m surprised they didn’t make the doll like. Have block and 30% shelter or something. Every little part of his kit sounds like it’s trying to do different things, like Lowlight fired three separate interns whilst they were trying to make this operator. It’s a shame that his overall design sucks so much ass since he looks like a fun little goober. I think I like Humus and Totter more since they do something interesting niche-wise, and even if someone like Humus isn’t the best he’s still unique in how he achieves his goal (though I’ve been told Highmore is outright better, she at least functions differently than Humus). I think Verdant is disappointing because the past few 4*s of the Victoria arc have been treated as operators that fill a specific niche instead of purely a 4* of a given branch.
The free 5 stars for the victoria arc are concentrated ass too. Having talents that would potentially fix their kits but its locked into their own damned story chapter, in which there's not really ever a spot for them to be used in the first place. At least Heidi is cool for people who don't have a bard, and also has some cool +block -block gimmicks that I'm sure somebody out there has used for some hella stylish clears. But I feel so bad for Dagda and Morgan. It reminds me of Savage, if Savage were given a passive that only works for chapters 0-3, or only works during anniversary month.

I was unfortunately saw this coming. Dollkeeper are a tricky archaetype to be work around. Their sole purpose of being a meatshield already taken by gravel. I'm actually very surprised when they decide to released a dollkeeper out of anyother archaetype.

As a 4* only player, i can feel you pain. There is so many mechanics 4*s dont cover, and a fricking dollkeeper-tank is... I hoped that he will do some CC or smth. There is an interesting parallel to Gravel who is a 4* executor so they made her a defensive one, unlike the rest of her class, when designing a 4* dollkeeper it seems like they tried to follow the same logic.
Bena is already defensive with Sanctuary, with Kazimaru being her offensive side and specter being offensive/survival. That said, it seems like their is a bit of focus on tankyness, like the new 5* Pioneer Poncirus who's specializes in tankinis, but loses out on everything elses.
Gravel predates every executor other than red tho I don't think we can draw any conclusions from her design it is true that 4* has some archetypes that have a defensive variant while higher rarity have offensive ones but it's not universal. Part of why cutter is so imba is because she is a munchkin Her trust her module her pot all of these give ATK so she has almost as much attack as higher rarity variants at the cost of extremely poor defense.
I was ecstatic when I heard about a *4 Dollkeeper and keep thinking finally *4 roster will have some fun quirks from Dollkeeper, turns out the quirk he had is a discount Gravel maybe if he at least poison stacking like Puzzle or some sort of debuff/slow in his Doll state, even though its dogwater he would see some use, heck, even the ability to ignore the HP loss from S2 would be decent so he wont die before even spending the entire duration
Cmon more bad 4* means that one day you will finally be able to do nutty clears using a "ONLY bad 4*" squad, for now I think the niche only has Frostleaf, Chestnut, Quartz and Verdant tho. ...I think there are stages that could be cleared by that squad. You have a medic, two 'dps' one of which hits ranged and a 'staller'. You could try!

I think he can still be good for new players, I made heavy use of Gummy over Hoshi, Blemshine, Matterhorn, Utag, etc. just because her niche of melee 1/4 healer saved so many of my ranged units from the stray attack. Similarly I can imagine new players using Verdent as a frontliner while they set up Cardigan, Popukar etc. and his regen s1 can make him a pretty good backliner for Malenthia or a Frontliner for Deverman/Lords, strats I often used while playing the first 4~5 chapters.

Wow, a rant. That was rare that even quartz dont have one. But, y'know, i kinda saw this one coming. Dollkeepee archaetype are very tricky to work around and the dev didnt want to make somethjng unique out of them in fear that it might make them stronger than bena. It was a shamed that we get worse 4* when we rarely get one.
Bena is a dodge tank that can hit through some amount of DEF or shred some normal enemies. Verdant could've worked, as Silvergun said, like a health doll tank that does decent damage outside of it, and it would've worked fine.
I recently commented on the increasing trend of operators and modules with frustrating designs, particularly for 5*s and joked that the 4*s are fine as they have Dr Silvergun. Watching this video made me reconsider my joke a little. :D No thanks to this trend and a whole bunch of other reasons, I'm taking a step back from Arknights. Well he is decent and can do some random ass thing that other repears can't (doesn't get one shot by ch10/13 cannon) So there isn't much to rant about there. I find him boring cause I like extreme ops that do one thing well and suck at everything else while he is an all rounder, but that's personal preference

I was a bit hyped when I saw him because even though Humus is not exactly amazing he still very interesting and Chestnut was very important to me when I started playing and needed a Elemental healer. Shame they didn't put any thoughts on Verdant cause his character design is very cool and the streak on 4* was very good IMO
Chestnut is bad so he is more niche that he is suppose to be (massive healing advantage purestream has tends to edge him out, but module is a big factor in that) but it is clear when he is suppose to be used for.
Newer 4*s are so oddly variable man. Its so odd to think Totter and him are the same rarity. I use Totter a ton even in a full 6* squad. I am not using this guy ever lol
S1 allows her to phase through enemies and not get damaged while still tanking shots. Then regens to full. Faster doll basicallh and semi immortal sustain

Back when Quartz was released, I would argue she might have a niche for Arts tanking or Dreadnought but with 2 block to prevent leaks. But Verdant's kit even for Specialist only feels very confusing because Bena exists. S2 conflicts by seemingly trying to be DPS and Doll activation but ends up crippling each other. Bena's DR is not only universal, but is less likely to be affected by HP down. Bena will be a better on field aggro for Specialist which leaves Verdant with no proper niche at the moment aside from being cheaper in DP. Maybe pure crowd control like Binds to target specific enemies rather than Ethan covering multiple mobs awhile fitting the snake motif and a niche compared to the DPS Dollkeepers.

Man as a 4 star player when i heard we were getting a dollkeeper i was really really excited, and then i heard his attacks deal arts damage on skill and on doll, i was so i excited by the probability of deploying him way on the frontline dealing arts damage and then switching to doll, but then he damages himself by so much on s2 and most dolls dont get the offensive benefits of a skill activation or talent but they made him tank like we don't already have a ton of survivability and stall in this niche. Like i read the module right after i was hoping damage please damage, res increase? Wait thats matterhorns thing, regens hp? Like 5 other ops do that, needless to say i was dissapointed i can't even easily split box/block stall with him and beanstalks already much much better than him in that aspect, what a shame
The Utage-like S2 for Verdant sounds incredibly cool and would make a lot more sense. I don’t know why HG never thought about it, it feels like they’re trying too hard to tone down newer 4*s (barring Totter who is pretty good at his niche)
worst of all is that unlike other shit tier 4* like Frostleaf and Jackie and even Quartz is that they at least have the copium for a good module in the future. We know that their modules likely wont save them but at least dreaming about it is free. Verdant sure is a character that exist. Jokes aside another thing they could have done could be a stance skill, you activate it and he stays in doll mode, has increased aggro to justify the healt regen and maybe some other proprieties i dunno, maybe make that when he dies in doll form he goes back to standard mode an has go recharge the skill again but if you deactivate the skill he refound a portion of sp so it can be cycled. I really can't understand what they were thinking with him.
There are of course other options for these ideas, but here they are. Tank Faust shots? (FRD/cardigan/matoimaru exist) Stalling nourished reapers? (Gravel/Jaye exist)
he'd work fine for tanking faust but it's also trivial to do so outside of cc2 and i'm not sure he'd be usable there either (gravel + defender might be better
My biggest complaint is the talent 1. I get it that in the early phase of Arknight they dont have a lot ideas about designing characters yet, but at this stage, straight up stats buff with no interaction with the kits should not exist. If you want the character to have more health and res, JUST ADD IT. As dev you can just put said number into the game, there is nothing stopping you. Put something actually interesting in that slot
Welp….we had…the ENTIRE crusher archetype be a massive “Why do I exist” case until Hoederer (only barely) was able to overcome the overwhelming restrictions of the archetype. I guess this is Hypergryph’s new obsession. Units and archetypes that are almost never useful

A bit better than Silverash even for helidrop even as he could hold a lane for 60 seconds along with killing the boss as well. If he is one of the weakest 6* guard then only Surtr, Silverash and Mlynar could be considered 6* guard.

The weird thing is that his kit is basically Bena but with four star stats instead of five star stats and a worse talent. They both kill themselves on S2 and have a talent and module to make their doll more tanky. It makes no sense that they would just do the same kit again but worse when Bena is available for everyone forever through record restore.

Having only looked at Verdant from afar (as I don't have a CN account), he is underwhelming. From a dollkeeper perspective, Verdant just feels like a less interesting Bena that has Arts damage on skill rather than on doll. The +15 RES on Verdant S1 is at least mildly interesting, given that it's always active. Bena, Kazemaru, and Specter2 all have their own use cases, and that is magical to me. I'm still going to build Verdant, but I am struggling to see a distinct use case for him. I suppose time will tell. Can't be easy being green, yeah?
I like how they decided “oh wow this tanky dollkeeper kinda flopped but at least useful in certain situations” then makes better dollkeepers then decided “ u know what people *really* want, another tanky dollkeeper” (who also has res tanking like bena)”
Sounds like verdant needs at least vanguard def, and the module should buff his base hp as well. But that's still not really enough. Make skill 2 aoe? Give the doll def down or Arts Fragility?
2 Answers General use/metashit: Myrtle Jaye Utage Playing for lowest 4* op like I do: Jaye DC Cutter DC is very powerful like all summoners but her value is rarely relevant unless you want to optimize the operator count down. Myrtle is the opposite great for blind clearing maps cause of dp gen but largely irrelevant for optimizing maps Utage get's swapped for cutter in optimized runs because even though it is extremely strong you rarely need utage's particular skill set, while cutter is a super generalist that does a ton of damage in most circumstances. Jaye is just broken
Just the fact that her doll does arts is a massive improvement (switch wastes less dps) She is tankier than him too (not by much but I'd favor DR over healing because it amplifies healing from medics in a sense)
Anything that has offensive value would have made it more fun imo Tanks that just tank are extremely interchangeable so unless they do cool things like bubble they're not fun to use. Why Bubble is cool 3 Unique functions Reduces enemy atk which helps protects other ops vs AOE (rarely relevant but cool nonetheless) Has a taunt so can ignore deploy order Reflects dmg that is decent for trash clear (also it scales with DEF instead of ATK so it has a cool interaction on CM's with ATK reduction)

This is the problem with releasing new operators. They try to introduce origignal characters every banner, with insignificant gameplay and unimportant lore. The roster is so inflated that new characters without unique traits will just be placeholders. Take a look at Gravel. Her kit is "normal", but (1) she was new and (2) she is bound to an interesting plot. if she is released now, people would say she is boring too. HG should give more alters that flesh out the old character's stories instead of introducing fodders.
hmm can't really agree on either point You used gravel as example her kit is "normal" What does that mean There is no executor with a kit like hers There is no executor that absorbs damage like she does for such a low cost either. yeah she is not used super often because what she provides isn't needed often. But she is a specific defensive tool and every part of her kit (some parts do it badly) help with that role. If I didn't have gravel until now and I got her today I and other 4* players would be able to find many uses for her because it is something we have no great alternative for. She is even useful to normal players for cases where u need to bait something because she costs less than any other executor. Verdant's kit is all over the place and there is no clear use case. He has high ATK low def S1 is an incredibly weak defensive skill s2 is an offensive skill with a self harm gimmick, but the doll offers no value so the self harm is pointless. His talent is regen hp on a body that won't die anyway. If the doll is actually in danger of dying (taking over 3.8k dmg in less than 20 seconds) then 4% HP regen isn't something that will help all that much compared to alternative defensive stats like DR So it's a talent that is both useless 99% of the time and bad at it's job the 1% of the time that it's actually relevant. On the 2nd point I couldn't care less about AK lore and an operator's lore has no effect on how I judge them.

I think he can still be good for new players, I made heavy use of Gummy over Hoshi, Blemshine, Matterhorn, Utag, etc. just because her niche of melee 1/4 healer saved so many of my ranged units from the stray attack.
Similarly I can imagine new players using Verdent as a frontliner while they set up Cardigan, Popukar etc. and his regen s1 can make him a pretty good backliner for Malenthia or a Frontliner for Deverman/Lords, strats I often used while playing the first 4~5 chapters.

Wow, a rant. That was rare that even quartz dont have one. But, y'know, i kinda saw this one coming. Dollkeepee archaetype are very tricky to work around and the dev didnt want to make somethjng unique out of them in fear that it might make them stronger than bena. It was a shamed that we get worse 4* when we rarely get one.
Bena is a dodge tank that can hit through some amount of DEF or shred some normal enemies. Verdant could've worked, as Silvergun said, like a health doll tank that does decent damage outside of it, and it would've worked fine.
I recently commented on the increasing trend of operators and modules with frustrating designs, particularly for 5*s and joked that the 4*s are fine as they have Dr Silvergun. Watching this video made me reconsider my joke a little. :D
No thanks to this trend and a whole bunch of other reasons, I'm taking a step back from Arknights. It's been an absolute pleasure watching your clears and the skill that is put on display. Thank you!

I was a bit hyped when I saw him because even though Humus is not exactly amazing he still very interesting and Chestnut was very important to me when I started playing and needed a Elemental healer. Shame they didn't put any thoughts on Verdant cause his character design is very cool and the streak on 4* was very good IMO
Chestnut is bad so he is more niche that he is suppose to be (massive healing advantage purestream has tends to edge him out, but module is a big factor in that) but it is clear when he is suppose to be used for.
Kind of unrelated, but I really like the armored core 6 lobby music being used in the background, it’s a nice touch
Newer 4*s are so oddly variable man. Its so odd to think Totter and him are the same rarity. I use Totter a ton even in a full 6* squad. I am not using this guy ever lol

S1 has its uses but nowhere better than s2, the only strong helidrop option for 4 star.

Back when Quartz was released, I would argue she might have a niche for Arts tanking or Dreadnought but with 2 block to prevent leaks. But Verdant's kit even for Specialist only feels very confusing because Bena exists. S2 conflicts by seemingly trying to be DPS and Doll activation but ends up crippling each other. Bena's DR is not only universal, but is less likely to be affected by HP down.
Bena will be a better on field aggro for Specialist which leaves Verdant with no proper niche at the moment aside from being cheaper in DP. Maybe pure crowd control like Binds to target specific enemies rather than Ethan covering multiple mobs awhile fitting the snake motif and a niche compared to the DPS Dollkeepers.

I think your suggestion would straight up fix him, like make the skill like Utages, auto activation on deployment and when he resets from doll state. That'd make him relatively solid.
Man as a 4 star player when i heard we were getting a dollkeeper i was really really excited, and then i heard his attacks deal arts damage on skill and on doll, i was so i excited by the probability of deploying him way on the frontline dealing arts damage and then switching to doll, but then he damages himself by so much on s2 and most dolls dont get the offensive benefits of a skill activation or talent but they made him tank like we don't already have a ton of survivability and stall in this niche. Like i read the module right after i was hoping damage please damage, res increase? Wait thats matterhorns thing, regens hp? Like 5 other ops do that, needless to say i was dissapointed i can't even easily split box/block stall with him and beanstalks already much much better than him in that aspect, what a shame
So they made a 4☆ Dollkeeper that convinces you to use the other 3 dollkeepers due to how bad he is?

The Utage-like S2 for Verdant sounds incredibly cool and would make a lot more sense. I don’t know why HG never thought about it, it feels like they’re trying too hard to tone down newer 4*s (barring Totter who is pretty good at his niche)

Verdant sure is a character that exist. Jokes aside another thing they could have done could be a stance skill, you activate it and he stays in doll mode, has increased aggro to justify the healt regen and maybe some other proprieties i dunno, maybe make that when he dies in doll form he goes back to standard mode an has go recharge the skill again but if you deactivate the skill he refound a portion of sp so it can be cycled. I really can't understand what they were thinking with him.
i think a way they could've made s1 a bit better was to give him both the passive and an activatable skill that forces him into the doll state

My biggest complaint is the talent 1. I get it that in the early phase of Arknight they dont have a lot ideas about designing characters yet, but at this stage, straight up stats buff with no interaction with the kits should not exist. If you want the character to have more health and res, JUST ADD IT. As dev you can just put said number into the game, there is nothing stopping you. Put something actually interesting in that slot
Welp….we had…the ENTIRE crusher archetype be a massive “Why do I exist” case until Hoederer (only barely) was able to overcome the overwhelming restrictions of the archetype. I guess this is Hypergryph’s new obsession. Units and archetypes that are almost never useful

@@DrSilvergunAmongst the guard currently only Mlynar and Surtr is better than him dude. He is used like Surtr and is better than her in some case. A bit better than Silverash even for helidrop even as he could hold a lane for 60 seconds along with killing the boss as well. If he is one of the weakest 6* guard then only Surtr, Silverash and Mlynar could be considered 6* guard.

The weird thing is that his kit is basically Bena but with four star stats instead of five star stats and a worse talent. They both kill themselves on S2 and have a talent and module to make their doll more tanky. It makes no sense that they would just do the same kit again but worse when Bena is available for everyone forever through record restore.
They just copied his kit and downgraded it. Same with bagpipe using wild mane plus grani s kits

Having only looked at Verdant from afar (as I don't have a CN account), he is underwhelming. From a dollkeeper perspective, Verdant just feels like a less interesting Bena that has Arts damage on skill rather than on doll. The +15 RES on Verdant S1 is at least mildly interesting, given that it's always active.
Bena, Kazemaru, and Specter2 all have their own use cases, and that is magical to me. I'm still going to build Verdant, but I am struggling to see a distinct use case for him. I suppose time will tell. Can't be easy being green, yeah?
I like how they decided “oh wow this tanky dollkeeper kinda flopped but at least useful in certain situations” then makes better dollkeepers then decided “ u know what people *really* want, another tanky dollkeeper” (who also has res tanking like bena)”

General use/metashit: Myrtle Jaye Utage
Playing for lowest 4* op like I do: Jaye DC Cutter
DC is very powerful like all summoners but her value is rarely relevant unless you want to optimize the operator count down.
Myrtle is the opposite great for blind clearing maps cause of dp gen but largely irrelevant for optimizing maps
Utage get's swapped for cutter in optimized runs because even though it is extremely strong you rarely need utage's particular skill set, while cutter is a super generalist that does a ton of damage in most circumstances.
Jaye is just broken
HG just don't make men like Jaye anymore😔
Question how would you compare him to bena? I imagine bena’s a good deal tankier but haven’t compared their respective dps
Just the fact that her doll does arts is a massive improvement (switch wastes less dps)
She is tankier than him too (not by much but I'd favor DR over healing because it amplifies healing from medics in a sense)

Tanks that just tank are extremely interchangeable so unless they do cool things like bubble they're not fun to use.

This is the problem with releasing new operators. They try to introduce origignal characters every banner, with insignificant gameplay and unimportant lore. The roster is so inflated that new characters without unique traits will just be placeholders.
Take a look at Gravel. Her kit is "normal", but (1) she was new and (2) she is bound to an interesting plot. if she is released now, people would say she is boring too.
HG should give more alters that flesh out the old character's stories instead of introducing fodders.

There is no executor with a kit like hers
There is no executor that absorbs damage like she does for such a low cost either.
yeah she is not used super often because what she provides isn't needed often.
But she is a specific defensive tool and every part of her kit (some parts do it badly) help with that role.
If I didn't have gravel until now and I got her today I and other 4* players would be able to find many uses for her because it is something we have no great alternative for.
She is even useful to normal players for cases where u need to bait something because she costs less than any other executor.
Verdant's kit is all over the place and there is no clear use case.
He has high ATK low def
S1 is an incredibly weak defensive skill
s2 is an offensive skill with a self harm gimmick, but the doll offers no value so the self harm is pointless.
His talent is regen hp on a body that won't die anyway.
If the doll is actually in danger of dying (taking over 3.8k dmg in less than 20 seconds) then 4% HP regen isn't something that will help all that much compared to alternative defensive stats like DR
So it's a talent that is both useless 99% of the time and bad at it's job the 1% of the time that it's actually relevant.
On the 2nd point I couldn't care less about AK lore and an operator's lore has no effect on how I judge them.
