The Black Dalek Supreme self-destructs because it's mentally linked with the girl controller who has a big breakdown when the battle computer is destroyed, along with the Dalek Mothership, and Skaro! When the Black Dalek starts spinning out of control, that's when the girl is spinning and flailing in the living room having just threatened Ace. When she collapses, that's when the Dalek explodes..... It's all in the original novel, which is a great read, with loads more back-story than could be fitted into the TV show. Great novel, and one of the very best Dr Who shows... 🙂
I am glad they didn't blow up the supreme Dalek as one of my earliest Doctor Who memories is standing next to it outside a Welsh exhibition as a four year old :)
I personally like the bit where the Doctor talks the Supreme into self-destructing. It's cornered, alone, but could still kill a good handful of people before it dies. The Doctor talking it into a panic attack where it destroys itself to me is a lot better than what they originally planned to do, which was to have the Doctor blow it's head off with a rocket launcher, which really doesn't seem his style.
I actually managed to watch it all the way through when it was first uploaded. I clicked on it realised it was taken down and didn't click off til it was done. Had a funny comment I was gonna put, but ii can't remember it

I know you've kind of touched on it before, but I'd really like to see a Review of Death in which you, Billy and Kat review Torchwood. I have really gotten into it and am currently watching Miracle Day (which I don't really like). The best episodes in my opinion are Countrycide, Adrift and the entirety of Children of Earth. I'd be really interested in hearing your thoughts on it.
Two years late seeing this! But I was reminded the other day that the counter measures group are given their full title in the Remembrance of the Daleks novelisation after reading the Escape Into danger blog on the novel the other day.
Absolutely love these videos, would love to see you two review other McCoy stories like Survival, Greatest Show in the Galaxy, and Time and the Rani, because I'd like to listen to Johnathan talk about when he watched it live. I would also like to see some more Review of Death if you and Billy can get together again and talk about possibly Trial of a Timelord, or something else. Anyways love the videos Matt.
You should really read the novelisation of this story, it goes into detail about the groups relationships, the special weapons Dalek and why the Supreme Dalek died so easily. Also this is my first and favourite story of Doctor Who
Brilliant review! I actually quite like the destruction of the black Dalek. After the doctor destroys Skaro it's great to see him have one more trick up his sleeve and defeat it just with his words. It might have been better to have the little girl mentally overpower the Dalek and destroy it though, that would have made more sense. Incidentally, that clip was one of the first I ever saw of Sylvester, it was shown at the end of a documentary called Resistance is Useless which my dad showed me as a kid!
Best Doctor who story of all time. My favorite. My First Story and my Favorite Doctor. Amazing Explosions. I agree with your brother completely. They were soo strong in that yard scene the imperial Daleks melted!!! The pacings perfect. The music score is still some of the best of the show. And in the 25th Anniversary year, what more do you Want than Beating up a dalek with a baseball bat and Blowing them up with anti tank guns?Imperial Daleks are my favorite design. Wish they'd come back. Should have been the anniversary story in my eyes. What else can i say? Perfect story... Unlimited Rice Pudding!! :)
As a Dalek mad 60s kid who's watched Dr. who off and on since the very beginning, I had lost touch with the show by the 80s but often dipped back in if the Daleks were appearing. This was a great story in my opinion only let down slightly by being shot in high summer weather.....how much more atmospheric would it have been in Autumnal gloom and swirling fog instead of blue cloudless skies and bright sunlight? Oh and I'm with you on the dumb bit with the Supreme self destructing....ridiculous!
I'd love to see you and your brother review the Season 26 Boxset when it comes out, not necessarily the episodes themselves but maybe some of the special features that are on there. That being said, with this vid in mind, I wouldn't say no to a "revisit" where maybe your thoughts on say Ghostlight or Battlefield might have changed or are better (or worse) on the blu-ray.
If you dont review RotD at least once per year in a photocopied A5 fanzine that you send out to people for 50p and SAE you are not a true doctor who fan. Seriously it's the law

Saw it in 86 when broadcast and umpteen times since then and it never occurred to me that one lot of daleks were black and the other, white!
