Dick: Does the hurt ever go away? Bruce: I wish I could say yes. But it will get better in time, for YOU. That I promise. - Why do I bring this up? Because Implicitly Pretentious has a pretentious habit of excluding it. I wonder why.. - Well, let's see. In this very moment Bruce makes a promise to Dick, one that he aims to keep. He wants to bring Zucko to justice so that Dick doesn't suffer the same fate that he does, not being able to find justice for the murder of his parents. Bruce has always been seeking the man who killed his parents, he has dwelled on this his entire life. This desire to find justice for the murder of his parents isn't only his strength, but his weakness. He doesn't want Dick to dwell on Zucko, to seek him out and take vengeance upon him rather than justice, he wasn't just scared of Zucko taking him from him (as selfish as this sounds), he's worried about Zucko pushing him over the line, because in Batman's eyes, that would be "taking him from him". Dick is someone who Batman views as pure of heart, Dick murdering the man who killed his parents in an act of vengeance is in a lot of ways Batman's worst fear in that moment, I think Batman would be more horrified by the thought because he would see himself in Dick, because Batman knows that if he ever caught Joe Chill he'd be on the edge, and whether or not he'd go over is a toss of a coin. - Reality is that Bruce was right in the end. It did get better for Dick, in a lot of ways, he's the better Bat"MAN", but not the best BATMAN.
As someone who is named after this character, these episodes were by far my favorite, and really solidified him as my all time best boi in the bat family
Wow your line about how Dick has two conflicting self narratives-the boy who lost his parents, and the boy who found a father-and they both tie to Tony Zucco and collide in the present is SO GOOD. Gave me goosebumps, man!
One of my favorite takes on Batman is that he's using "Robin" to keep Dick from becoming as angry and bitter as Bruce himself is. So when he says "I thought he might take you, too", he may not just mean "your life" but "your soul" if Dick were indeed to attempt to kill Zuko.
Ohmygod, that stinger before the credits, I can't. 😂 Yeah, the DCAU did a lot of great things, but there were some choices that were just... why? And that was definitely one of them.

It was the beginning of Batman learning to be a part of a family again. That though he always had his father alfred, now he would have brothers, sisters, sons and daughters as part of the superhero community in due time too. Batman knew about what Zuccho did to Dick Grayson’s parents tragic at the circus and didn’t want to tell Robin in painful resason and went thru enough and also refuse to allow him to tag along in thats not particularly because he reacts in haste and wanted to dealt with out of reckless emotion drama which is why Bruce is being protective to Dick not only true friend but also father figure that never with before (til TNBA’s in the opposite path😏)
Does anyone else find it interesting how Zuko looks an awful lot like Bruce Wayne? Even down to the yellow shirt? It is almost a parallel to how Grayson's adoptive father is in a way the cause of his pain and while a lot of happiness came as a result of Bruce adopting Dick, there is still an ominous presence of the pain and anger connected to him. IDK
I think the whole "Bruce is Dick's dad" thing is overplayed. There's a reason Bruce never officially adopted Dick (until he was a grown man, symbolically). Bruce respected John and Mary Grayson too much to presume the role of Dick's father. Plus, in most versions, Bruce is only like 10 to 15 years older than Dick. Not quite old enough to be his father.
Thing is that is the relationship they have like it or not. Even if it's not part of the animated series, Teen Titans Robin basically confirms this with his line "I already have a father" to slade
Where Bruce embraced his loss as batman, Dick overcame his loss as Robin and then later Nightwing. That's why batman thinks of him as his greatest success, because Dick accomplished what Bruce failed to do.
Please do a Young Justice video on the complexities of the relationship between sisters Tigress and Cheshire…along with their parents Sportsmaster and Huntress. 🙏🏽
I mean, they obviously were at some point prior to the death of Joker. The miscarriage stuff added later is peak edgelord. As much as I hate it, the Cadmus reveal in Epilogue has a story and thematic point. Barbara having a miscarriage actually undermines Bruce's emotional detachment *that was the intended point of why he became the man in Beyond*.

Give this guy an award
I'm glad you told me it was sad. Or else I wouldn't have noticed
Fun fact: This is the first example of an animation doing the Akira motorcycle slide as homage to the movie, Akira.
I bursted out laughing when he said "it's crazy how this one rich guy is scaring this poor neighborhood🤣🤣..... and that end quote was hilarious too 😂
So uh...how much DC animated stuff have you watched in the last 3 months?
Feels like the answer is "all of it" XD
3:06 didn’t know that 💀💀
Does anyone else find it interesting how Zuko looks an awful lot like Bruce Wayne?
That ending gets you a like lol
Where Bruce embraced his loss as batman, Dick overcame his loss as Robin and then later Nightwing. That's why batman thinks of him as his greatest success, because Dick accomplished what Bruce failed to do.
Please do a Young Justice video on the complexities of the relationship between sisters Tigress and Cheshire…along with their parents Sportsmaster and Huntress. 🙏🏽
Yo that last line 😭
0:27- 0:31
You couldn't resist could you...?
I really miss a batman who could smile
I support the suggestion of a "MY Trauma" vid about Bruce x Babs
I love watching these even if I haven’t watched the DCAU
He didn’t just sleep with her. Remember, they added him knocking her up, and in the crippling attack by the Joker, she had a miscarriage.
Damn…
I’ve never personally considered Batman’s sexual relationship with Barbara Cannon
The way you keep bringing up the fact that in this universe, Batman sleeps with his girlfriend cracks me up😂
I love in these videos that you keep destroying the Batman batgirl thing😂
As it's only fair.
0:28 bro, who doesn't
wait
Why did you have to reminds me of the barbra/bruce thing man.
NOOO THE TWIST ENDING!!
"Since they've already seen him, he can't do a predator takedown" lmaoo
Nightwing is my favorite superhero of all time
The funnest voice is biff from back to the future
that first chapter can be taken way out of context
The first time I begin to love Batman
