there was something about your playing that lead me to think about "flow" then I read your post about playing worship at church. great job dude. you have a great taste for delays absent how to use your pedal. thumbs up (coming from a bass player -also playing worship at church) blessings!
Hello Matthew, I just wanted to thank you for this video and your beautiful playing. I bought my Timeline because of this video 6 months ago and I still come back and give it a listen every now and again..
Dude, I totally agree about the digital delay "machine" being the potential underdog. I spent like three hours yesterday on that setting. There are just so many parameters to play with. It can be in your face - chunky and percussive, or it can be really subtle, spacious, and ethereal. Like you said - it's deep.
Boltguitar, funny you should post this comment last night! For no specific reason, when I got home last night I decided to work with the Dual Delay setting on Timeline thru my Mark V. I have the Mark V set up such that I have a really clean sound on Ch. 1, low-med dirt on 2 and even more gain on 3. In all cases the Strymon was magic. THEN I hooked up the outs from the Strymon in stereo, left to the Mark V and right to my Victoria 518 running through a Vox cab with 2 Celestion Blues. Bliss!
Hey Matt. I am really blown away with the tone you are getting. Can you tell me what kind of amp you are playing through and the guitar you are using? I play in worship bands and at church all the time and am amp shopping right now, looking into what kind of amp to be getting. Thanks.
As for dotted eighth stuff, you can't change the "time" knob to display time in notes like the timefactor? Really liking this delay but really want an easy on the fly way to get to dotted eighth. I play in a Christian Praise band and as you may know, dotted eighth is a big deal for some of those covers. Great sounds! Thanks. Also, what are you running this into? Have you used it through an amps effects loop?
Hey Matthew! Thanks for this! I cannot decide between the el cap and the timeline. I am trying to find a way to sustain my swells and blend them together more seamlessly and create a real layered atmosphere. You think the timeline is my guy? Anybody?
@Mastersonics I think you can definitely dial it back to get a more subtle sound. In most of my videos I probably have the mix turned up more than I would normally use it in an effort to show what the pedal sounds like. I'm really happy with this pedal. The sounds it makes are very musical and inspirational. Thanks for watching!
hi, wonderful demo! If I buy this unit, I guess I will not need to buy a Capistan or a Brigadier right? The functionalities are the same I guess... Thanks, LC.
How well does the timeline do a bright clean digital delay? I've heard tons of clips on RUclips of all the cool modulation and warm delays and such but none of just a straight up, clean, bright, digital delay. I like that sound for dotted eighths. What are your observations on that?
@lfrc2006 You definitely won't need the Brigadier. The TimeLine has some of the functionalities of the el Cap, but not all. The el Cap has three tape modes. The TimeLine only has one. Luckily it's the tape mode I used most on my el Cap before I sold it. I'm not missing it at all. From the TimeLine FAQ: "El Capistan is a dedicated tape echo experience, giving you more in-depth control over tape echo sounds, including the Multi-head modes, Fixed head modes, Sound on Sound, and spring reverb."
@hubar1565 You can definitely dial in a clean digital delay. You just need to turn the filter, grit and smear all the way down. Also, you can turn the high pass setting up a bit and it will roll off some of the bass frequencies. Those settings will get you there.
Timeline, El Capistain and Bluesky are very similar. It's hard to pick one. Great job and performance, very nice sound. I aways listen your job in youtube.
@Mastersonics There is not a spring reverb like on the el Capistan. But you can make some presets that sound pretty reverb-y. Check out my other video for a more reverb type sound. bit.ly / r5JGNl
@JayDeeSG I just save different presets with the dotted eight setting. In fact, most of my presets are dotted eighth. I only have a few that are quarter note tap. In this demo I ran the timeline stereo into a fender champ and a small tweed amp. Live I use a Vox AC30 and a fender blues jr. Neither one of my amps have an effects loop.
From my perspective any series of effects can suck volume and tone from your signal chain. The only way I have really been able to deal with this is with a signal buffer. I picked up an EBVPJr from JHS. They put a buffer into it so it winds up being a powered volume pedal. Totally fixed all my problems. Very strong tone through eight pedals and about 50ft of cable. Hope that helps...
@troswim MIJ Fender Strat into Timeline into Amps The left output of the TimeLine went into a 70's Fender Champ mic'd with a Sennheiser MD 421. The right output went direct into Logic's amp emulation using a small tweed amp. The audio interface I used was a MOTU 828. Hope this helps.
Hey Matt can you PLEASE upload a video on how to scroll through the presets and how to access them. I am seriously considering buying one of these and it would be a HUGE help!
***** yes for the most part. You can bank up and down through presets easy enough, and turn knobs for repeats and speed, some of the in depth settings wouldn't be adjustable on the fly, but versus something like the DL-4 the presets alone make it better
I really like this pedal, but the only thing I dislike about it is that (from what I've seen in your demo and other videos) the LCD only displays delay time and some options.. but why doesn't it show the values of other parameters like Grit / Mod Speed / Mod Depth.. ?? Did Strymon address this in a new firmware update? On the Eventide TimeFactor, when you load a preset you can see the current value of each knob, and that value# is locked until you turn the knob beyond that saved position.
I tend to use my timeline for synths, it sounds great, but it's not the only delay that turns in a good show. The Boss DD500 if your willing to spend a bit of time programming can sound amazing, but my absolute favourite for sound is the Pigtronix Echolution 2 which sounds sublime, but is a bit of a pain to program in a hurry, so setting up presets is essential.
Will the Strymon TimeLine work nicely with my old analog keyboards? I'm looking for a delay and this seems like the most flexible, easy to use and tonally pure thing out there right now.
Hey Mathew... I hear you have postings somewhere of how you got these great sounds... Where do I find that info as I would love to emulate some of these sounds? Thanks and great playing!
dBucket emulates analog delay pedals. dTape emulates the old tape echo boxes. In practice, dTape can get grittier and more spacious than the dBucket which is more smooth sounding.
I saw a comment on RUclips from someone saying that when in use, the Timeline sucked alot of volume from his signal chain - have you had any similar problems?
Honestly - and I'm not even trying to add to the circlejerk of Timeline-love I see so often - it's gotten a little unhealthy how much I've been reading Timeline reviews and watching videos about it. I just need $450 damn dollars.
@rpnnodak Thanks. I don't have an artist page, or any of my own music for that matter. I am currently playing worship at my church. I'm kicking around a couple of project ideas, but nothing solid yet.
@mutematt I absolutely love my BlueSky! I use it as a main effect for ambient stuff. For volume swells I am just using the BlueSky. It's a total ambient pedal to me, but I really like reverbs anyway, I have 3 on my board.
@hubar1565 Further to mutematt's reply, I use mine for clean delay as well, in fact the Time Line adds an amazing pristine clarity to your tone. I use mine with a number of amps but of late have been completely blown away by the Timeline/Boogie MkV pairing - either in front of the amp or through the effects loop.
@phintze For some reason I'm predisposed to want to like the dBucket and dTape more than the Digital machine. But sonically it definitely holds it own.
@agutierrez20 On this video I was. The right output went into a 70's Fender Champ. The left output went direct into my audio interface and Logic. In Logic I used a tweed amp emulation. Thanks for watching!
@TheDanmanguy In this video I'm running a stereo setup. On one side is an old Silverface Fender Champ. The TimeLine is actually sitting atop the champ. You can see it in the video. On the other side, I went direct out of the TimeLine into my audio interface. I used the amp modeling in Logic Pro for this side. I believe it was an AC30ish model. I wouldn't recommend the champ for a band setting. It doesn't have much clean headroom. Take a look at the Fender Blues or Pro Jr. Those are solid amps
@gman0999 The wait time for back ordering these off of Strymon's site is brutal but well worth it. People are asking over $700 for them on eBay. A $250 markup is a high price for impatience.
Great demo, thank you so much! Does anyone have any thoughts between a DD20 and the Strymon timeline? I cant decide which one to get. From what i've heard so far, the DD20 is really easy to tweak on the fly and also sounds more "organic" or natural as compared to Timeline which can sound a little too "digital" or pristine at times even in the dBucket/Tape modes.
there was something about your playing that lead me to think about "flow" then I read your post about playing worship at church. great job dude. you have a great taste for delays absent how to use your pedal. thumbs up (coming from a bass player -also playing worship at church) blessings!
Hello Matthew, I just wanted to thank you for this video and your beautiful playing. I bought my Timeline because of this video 6 months ago and I still come back and give it a listen every now and again..
this is a beautiful example of the timeline, a gorgeous musical phrase you are playing.
Dude, I totally agree about the digital delay "machine" being the potential underdog. I spent like three hours yesterday on that setting. There are just so many parameters to play with. It can be in your face - chunky and percussive, or it can be really subtle, spacious, and ethereal. Like you said - it's deep.
This pedal sounds like heaven! I think I'm in love!
Great video. I love your playing style and its fun to sit and listen and watch you play songs while playing with knobs. Fun
Even the fret noise sounds good with this thing...
@gman0999
That is pretty incredible! Speaks a lot for the day and age in which we live. Enjoy the TimeLine!!!
Yea! I love the Timeline! nice use of triad inversions also.
Hey Matt. I am really blown away with the tone you are getting. Can you tell me what kind of amp you are playing through and the guitar you are using? I play in worship bands and at church all the time and am amp shopping right now, looking into what kind of amp to be getting. Thanks.
Your Timeline vids are fantastic! I've held off this long, but I give up. I guess I have to sell off some pedals!
Omg, this is a soooo perfect delay! Do you use other effects.. or is it just the strymon delay ?
Awesome to hear that feedback from Mark V + Timeline, In my head this is a perfect combination, that I shall enjoy in the near future =)
As for dotted eighth stuff, you can't change the "time" knob to display time in notes like the timefactor? Really liking this delay but really want an easy on the fly way to get to dotted eighth. what guitar are you using, and are you running it through an amp or your computer? this is a great demo the pedal sounds amazing
Hey Matthew! Thanks for this! I cannot decide between the el cap and the timeline. I am trying to find a way to sustain my swells and blend them together more seamlessly and create a real layered atmosphere. You think the timeline is my guy? Anybody?
Can't wait to acquire this one day. Best delay ever.
@mutematt great sound and playing BTW, I'm waiting for my unit to arrive so i've just been salivating over your demos LOL.
Beautiful guitar playing
@Mastersonics

Yr vids look amazing. What is the camera that you use?
hi,
wonderful demo! If I buy this unit, I guess I will not need to buy a Capistan or a Brigadier right? The functionalities are the same I guess...
Thanks,
LC.
Great demo and playing man !
My question is: If I buy this thing, do I still need a chorus pedal...? 🤔
Man you should name your channel Strymon for Dummies. Thank you so much. Good stuff
thanks for the demo! some nice playing over here
.
How well does the timeline do a bright clean digital delay? I've heard tons of clips on RUclips of all the cool modulation and warm delays and such but none of just a straight up, clean, bright, digital delay. I like that sound for dotted eighths. What are your observations on that?
Very clean demo, congrats :)
@ryanstewartguitar No reverb, just the pedal. I am running it stereo. One side through a silver face champ and the other side direct into my computer.
Very nice demo, sounds amazing, I just wonder how many presets you can save it in this pedal and change instantly?
@smnewthtrblnmnd
Thanks man. How do you like that blueSky?
This is helpful to me too. I was curious how it would sound with the Mark V. Thanks!!
@lfrc2006

Great Demo! How did you record it? just the camera mic?
@hubar1565

Timeline, El Capistain and Bluesky are very similar. It's hard to pick one. Great job and performance, very nice sound. I aways listen your job in youtube.
@jackroylee, the timeline has 100 banks (including the 00 bank), each with two different presets. So you get 200 total presets that you can save
@Mastersonics
There is not a spring reverb like on the el Capistan. But you can make some presets that sound pretty reverb-y. Check out my other video for a more reverb type sound.

Are there two versions of TimeLine? 1 & 2 ? Great demo
VinceVega303 I think there’s only one version of the timeline. But I could be wrong.
brilliant sound. beautiful melodies. very good demo!
I wanna have a strymon timeline, but it's quite expensive...
@JayDeeSG

great video! do you think that timeline should work fine live on stage?
@777jordan
I'm not sure. I would think so, but I don't have a midi controller to test it with.
@troswim

Hope this helps.

@smnewthtrblnmnd
What are your other two verbs?
@pixelatedmoose
Thanks a lot. I use a Panasonic GF-2 with the 20mm lens.
Freaking awesome. Love it. Need one.
Fantastic!!! Thanks you.
Really great demo,so good infact I just ordered a Timeline,LOL!
@777jordan
I misread this when I answered the first time. You CAN can set the TimeLine to do dotted 8th when you use the built in tap tempo.
Yup! Me too! And then a few extra dozen grand for the other gear that I'm GASSING about!
Can the Timeline get realistic self oscillation in dBucket or dTape modes?
@rpnnodak
Thanks. I don't have an artist page, or any of my own music for that matter. I am currently playing worship at my church. I'm kicking around a couple of project ideas, but nothing solid yet.

All of my TimeLine videos are just the TimeLine. No other effects were used.
Can anyone tell me what chords/piece he plays at the beginning? Thanks!
What guitar and amp are you running here?
can you only do dotted eighth with midi?
What's your base tone (e.g., guitar/amp combination)?
What are the difference between dbucket and dtape?
I haven't seen or heard of that issue.
Is it hard to achieve those sounds?
What is the first song your playing?
@mutematt The Neunaber Technology WET reverb, and the Digitech Hardwire RV7 which I use only in reverse mode.
Can you have dual delays on?
Are you running it in stereo?
Do it man. I have the carbon and the RV-5. Don't get me wrong. I love my carbon copy but this thing is worth it!
@mutematt Thanks a lot for the reply and the link to the video. Roll on pay day :)
@maximperf
I'll get working on it! Thanks man.
I think it's pretty good.
@phintze
For some reason I'm predisposed to want to like the dBucket and dTape more than the Digital machine. But sonically it definitely holds it own.
@agutierrez20
On this video I was. The right output went into a 70's Fender Champ. The left output went direct into my audio interface and Logic. In Logic I used a tweed amp emulation.
Thanks for watching!
@Mastersonics
I sold my el Capistan to buy this. I'm elated with my decision. Couldn't be happier!
Guitar: Fender Strat
Amp: Silver face Fender Champ
Strat vinage? Standart?
80's Made In Japan. Think it's standard.
It loops the effected sound.
I have a timeline and haven't found it to suck volume.
@hubar1565 I can get really bright. Super bright for dotted eight.
@TheDanmanguy
In this video I'm running a stereo setup. On one side is an old Silverface Fender Champ. The TimeLine is actually sitting atop the champ. You can see it in the video.

Ahahahah =)
I´m waiting a video of yours showing this amaziness =)
oooo ok LIKE this one.....
I own the timeline, and I have to say that it sounds great except for the fact that its not very user friendly
Im thinking about selling my DD-20 and mxr carbon copy for one of these.
@cyyr1
Wow thanks. It'd be nice if Strymon started giving me kickbacks! :-D
Cuanto cuesta ese pedal ???!!!😭
J. Alexander García está como en 450 dólares (Americanos)
