in certain schools of TKD the belts are different lengths, color belts for beginning is short, while the black belt is twice the size, requiring alot of twist and turns to make your knot perfect.
Thank you sir! I just earned my 1st degree today and I realy wanted to learn how to tie it. Now I just need to practice tying it so whenever my school has its next class my brand new belt will look nice.
hey mr. Mcnallan i'm kevin i'm a 2nd degree black belt and i have been looking for a video to me how to tie a color belt from the view of the instructor.... or in other words how does an instructor tie a belt on a student at testing..... would you know of a video or can you make a video to help me out?
A student usually learns how to tie when they receive their first belt so wouldn't a black belt student know how to tie his/her black belt? I am a 2nd degree black belt in TKD and I learned to tie on my first day training when I received the white belt.
Hi i'm Ms. McCullom. Thank you for this tutorial. I just earned my first degree and i needed to know how they tie black belts. This really helped! Thank you Mr. McNallan! - Ms. McCullom
Usually, students don't get to use their blackbelt before receiving it. The colored belts are shorter and require different folding methods. Plus, when receiving the blackbelt, the person presenting it usually ties it around you. I know your comment is really old, but I wanted to respond for anyone else seeing this.
Hello, I've never received a reply or comment on a comment posted over a 12 years ago lol. To your comment, yes black belts 1st dan and up are generally thicker (all of mine are). The belt is still tied the exact same was as a color belt, with the stripes or name ending up on the right side. I've been a black belt and and an instructor for many years, so I'm aware of all of this. My original comment 12 years ago was that a student at the black belt level should know by then how to properly tie a belt prior to receiving it. Thanks for the comment, and happy new year!
Thank you Mr. McNallan for tying a black belt! This video should help lots of black belts figure out how to tie their black belt!

Thank you! This is so much easier than the way they tied it
