    I feel like teachers would be much happier if they got paid more. Yes it's not always about money, but when you are a working adult, you *need* money to sustain yourself. Especially when teachers spend so much time outside of school grading and planning, it's just unfair.

      You're right it's nit about the money but how can we expect teachers to be the best for the students when they are not at the best (financially) which can cause a lot of problems

    This was great. I recently aged out of the foster system and was a “troubled youth” if you know what I mean. I never cared about school and was generally very angry and mean. But it took one very special teacher to change my world! Now I’m entering college this fall (No saw it coming, lol) to become a teacher myself 🥰 teachers are THE most important people on the planet. Cannot wait until I can return the favor.

    All other careers I considered solely for the pay, but once I considered teaching, the pay meant nothing to me. I didn't care that I wouldn't make 6 figures. I found myself so excited about the thought of teaching and changing young lives for the better. I think I found my calling I haven't finished your vid yet but I know it will be helpful in seeing if this is right for me. ♡

    "You don't become a teacher for the money"
    So true!
    First yr is worse not only are you at the bottom of the pay scale, you have the most amount of work, the students know your new so give you a hard time, and if you didn't start at the beginning of the yr you actually don't get the full pay, to top it off some states make you do even more work having to go through an induction program. Best advice for someone thinking of going into teaching. Start as a teacher's aid or as a substitute.
    My first week and month I was cursed at, threatened, and had to deal with student drug use. Also I've been taking on a second and third job.

    I’m going to begin the journey of getting an elementary education degree this upcoming fall and I am so glad I stumbled upon this video! I had tossed around ideas for dozens of majors/careers over the past couple of years but none of them excited me as much as teaching, and I think it’s my calling!

    I genuinely thought I would be able to handle being a teacher. It really is a tough job. It can be rewarding, but the negative moments can crush you sometimes. It is very mentally taxing. It is also very mentally, physically, and emotionally demanding. I’m currently in my first placement, and it is soooo tough. You do not have a lot of time to yourself, and planning becomes your whole life. This video helped me realize that teaching is not for everyone, and I am part of that. It’s ok to change your mind.

    • @cosmist8207
      @cosmist8207 5 месяцев назад +5

      Ok I came back, I finished my first placement. I’m now in my second semester and here to say that a lot of things changed for me. I had to separate external factors from the actual job, and I’m glad I did. My supervisor was one of the major problems for my mental health during that time, but it wasn’t the job itself. I actually started to enjoy teaching from the halfway point towards the end. Seriously stick with the first placement and see it through to the end. It you give it a good try, you might find that your opinions and feelings change like mine did.

    I think every single program in school should include a placement aspect. It’s so important to be able to go in there and ask all these questions and figure all this stuff out prior to going through all the schooling and becoming fully invested. I know so many people who went through their entire programs and then hated their jobs when they started

      Another option is free/significantly cheaper education so that people don’t have to spend so much money just to realize it’s not for them. It creates situations where people literally cannot afford to go back to school in order to change their path

  • @johnlopez3996
    @johnlopez3996 3 года назад +57

    Yes, it is important to have a mental shut off valve to be able to step away. Find time for yourself and to find something that will help you to relax.Students do act differently when there is a full moon, so be prepared when the next one happens. It also helps when you have a supportive principal who never forgets how far he or she has come. A principal is a master teacher and not a master of teachers. Enjoy your week and take care.

    I am going to go into my first year of teaching here teaching sixth grade and this video has so many true and helpful talking points. My parent was initially not very supportive when I told them that I wanted to be a teacher and I was met with, “teachers don’t make that much” and “are you sure you would make a good teacher?” Well, that was nearly seven years ago and here I am now. I stuck with the plan and brushed off everyone who met me with reluctance. I’m very nervous for my first year and I know it’s going to be very hard, but I also know that I’m a strong person and I won’t back down no matter how challenging it gets. My biggest goal this year is that I can foster a warm and caring classroom environment where students and I alike will be able to grow from our mistakes

The idea of living below my means to serve in a less-than lucrative career field has been heavy on my heart recently. Specifically in underprivileged areas. Growing up, I went to a school that seemed to have had unlimited resources, and other schools that had very little of anything for teachers and students!! Seeing and experiencing the difference it can make on both sides of the spectrum gives me enough drive to make a difference. Thanks for your honesty! You provide lots of wisdom as a teacher here.

Your absolutely right that teaching is a rewarding feeling at the end of the day whenever we know that we did the best and all the students still have smiles on their faces. You have mentioned instructor who trains school teachers, who may I talk to in applying for that kind of position? Also, will the school district allow training instructors to have additional jobs else where such as in education? By the way, your dogs are very adorable. Yeah it's a profession where u do/think of school stuffs 24/7 even weekends and summer vacation. And still doesn't paid enough.
    In our country, govt school teacher (T1) gets paid more or less 500 usd per month. And non govt school teacher gets paid more or less 200 usd.
    Teachers often spend some of their salary to buy things for school and some rewards for the students if they did good in class. So teachers are very thankful if someone donates teaching materials to them.
    U really need to have a part time job besides teaching to support your living if u want to eat well everyday. What more if u have a family to support, right?
    Most places here doesn't even have teaching aid that helps them in preparing for school. So they doing all the works solo. It's not just about teaching but also the research and stuff. And now the govt starts to put mandatory masteral for the teachers (idk if it applies to all but I've read it on reliable source)
    My mom is a teacher. And yes, we're struggling especially rn but I think she loves her job so much and she's doing great at it.
    Being a child of a teacher isn't easy too, idk if it's just me and my sibs but we didn't get a helping hand from them when it comes to projects and assignments coz they're always busy. They're free time is just a part of summer (2 months of vacation but half a month of organizing students' records and 1 month for preparing for another school yr) so it's like 2 weeks vacation for them. They're really a busy bee. I hope they'll get paid enough so they don't need to get another job. It's so stressful.
    Edit: this is for an elementary school teacher (idk about junior and senior high teachers, I kinda know college teachers are paid higher than this coz I have an uncle teaching at a University)

      I've never read books. So not sure what to tell you, I always get complimented by other teacher of my classroom management but not by since I don't put up with kids mess. When my colleagues sub for me they see how good my class is. What works for one person doesn't work for another and what might work for you doesn't mean it for for your admin. If it's your first yr or two they know your knew and will rough you up, it's not your management style its the kids being kids.

    Hello Madison! I am a PSEO student and have committed to being a special education teacher. I was wondering if you could give me your book recommendations for behavior management as you mentioned in the video. I appreciate the things you have shared.

    Hate to tell you this, but MOST jobs take out taxes and benefit costs from the paycheck. It’s not just teachers.

    I don't know I've worked three cubical jobs and each of them I had supervisors breathing down my neck so bad I couldn't stop to breath at all.
    The last one I left back in november because my boss threatened to fire me over and over and also complained about me taking my breaks which I sorely needed.

    I am a new resident of Alberta, considering getting a job in teaching after setting down.
    Please can you help with where I can get information on the teacher's retirement or pension.

      Pretty much every major country pays their teacher better and treats them as professionals and society at large has more respect for them. Not the US sadly no surprise the US ranks the lowest among those countries when it comes to student results. We are backwards but not surprise since we still don't use the metric system.

    I’m in grad school to get my teaching license. It’s my first semester and I’m already looking these things up. I’m scared I’m not cut out for it. I struggle with depression, and I’m afraid I can’t be present every day like I should because I am low energy a lot of time. Im not always extroverted, and need time to not talk. I also want a job where I don’t have to put a smile on constantly and talk. Im studying to teach k-3. Anyone here able to tell me what to do? HELP.

      Maybe you should be a high school teacher instead. Older students don't expect teachers to be cheerful all the time, so maybe you won't have the pressure of putting on a smile.

    It’s just not fair after all what teachers been through to get a degree and they didn’t paid much. They should pay teachers that they deserved because they mold children’s mind and children is our future.
