Just some progress on the Spice Launch System mod for KSP. It now has a proper interstage with ullage motors for the EUS and sort of ok particles. spacedock.info/mod/434/Spice%...
Have you considered doing your own take on the Ares III mission from the movie/book The Martian? I could definitely see a successful KSP version of that being absolutely epic.
Crazy good! I wish most rocket mods would have this quality. Looks great, seems to fly right and the extra effort put into the separation motors etc. round it up nicely. I hope this will be up to date soon, I really long for well working rockets with realistic designs.
With such long-burning hydrolox stages, it might be better to have a steeper launch profile initially, and boost up to about 250/300km, before falling back down, burning all the while, and cancelling your vertical velocity at about 180km. That way, you could keep a pitch angle of no more than 15-20 degrees, reducing steering losses significantly. A lot of rockets with very low-TWR upper stages (Atlas V, Delta IV) use this technique.
On second thought, the SLS core stage has a fairly low TWR at SRB jettison, so I'm not sure how well this technique would work for the SLS. In the video, you seemed to be pitching to about 25-30 degrees in the first stage and barely maintaining altitude.
Hey, Maccollo! Really impressed with this mod! I'd like to try it out after a bit more research.I believe this is the Block 1B variant, so I was just wondering what the total mass (payload and upper stage) in orbit was for this launch. You put it into LEO at about 191km x 180km, quite similar to the altitude of old Saturn V parking orbits, so I got curious.Great work on this! I'll keep a lookout for updates.
+Alastair Haslam I just recently made some changes to the core to make it more accurate, so at the moment you can get about 120 metric tons (total mass) to LEO with a decent ascent profile. With the current EUS mass and payload adapter that gives about 41 metric tons to LEO. This may change as I find more information about the properties of SLS.
+giuliano tulerman I believe he's using RSS Visual Enhancements, along with a bare-bones Realism Overhaul install. The mods with buttons are Hyperedit, and Kerbal Engineer.
Macollo, have you considered creating a new texture for the SLS like the Nasa concept art (white with black stripes)? I think that it would look absolutely gorgeous with it. Great mod by the way ;)
+A Really Weird Velociraptor I'll be updating the booster textures once I'm done with all the other parts. That list got a bit bigger since I added Orion to it. I also have to give the Dark Knight it's own model.
+A Really Weird Velociraptor I just realized I misread your comment (I seem to do that a lot). I thought you were talking about the new look for the 5 segment boosters for some reason. At the moment I don't have any plan to texture it like in the earlier NASA concepts. Partially because probably wont ever look like that, and also because there's so many other parts that require proper modelling and texturing
***** Lol, thats cool to. I mean, considering its an STS derivative, it would indeed make sense if it went up on an orange tank. And the whole part of that much paint weights a million tons. I can't wait to see what you do with the mod!
thats because it burned RP-1. very dense kerosene. the SLS block II is going to be bigger than the Saturn V. the side booster alone is about almost the same size as the falcon 9. its GIANT!!! I never saw a saturn V myself. I wish I could. this I gotta see!
Lovley video, keep it up +maccollo :)

Someone's got a good video of the constellation program - thats what the martian book is based on
Im your 10.000th subcriber!!!

"sort of ok particles" still looked like popcorn and made me want popcorn. Kerbnammit I want popcorn now.
That ignition was epiccc
U r de best ksp guy!
Can't wait for 1.1 and to install ALL THE MODS.
nice shaders. nice rocket. Like

What specs do you have on your system since the video of the simulation goes so well?
Hi, can you post a list of the visual enhancement mods you actually use? Are you using any mod manager for stability? Looks very good.
MOAAAR !
Do the engine bells really slide down on the second stage after the fairing is deployed on the real SLS?
That bell is a nozzle extension, and it is a real part of the RL-10B2, the engine planned for usage on the EUS.
those plumes tho...
The spice must flow?
Can we get Block I and II too?
And hopefully a LRB Version and the Block 0 and J-2X IIB concepts?
Hey maccollo, can you say what mods did you have for visual of planet earth and the mods in the ksp stock window (at upper right of the screen)?
i believe hes usung astronomers visual pack
+FullOilBarrel but you know what mods did he have on the stock toolbar window (at upper right of screen)?
+giuliano tulerman i only recognize FAR (aerodynamics) and kerbodyne or something like that (redoute mod)
+giuliano tulerman Probably he's using Scatterer for atmosphere's visual effects.

Sir, are You still alive?

Have you installed the community resource pack that comes with real fuels?

Hi, How do you do to avoid lag with so many mods?
where did you get the idea for a four engine cluster second stage? I thought there were only the single engine, and the dual engine proposal...
EUS on sls block 2 will have 4 engines
Is the audio a mod or is it just cut from a shuttle launch?

Ooh, spice launch system? What does it use as fuel? Cayenne? ;)
It is worth noting that "Spice" is not a typo.
GregroxMun I was joking XD
Do a mission to Mars using SLS.
Wiktor Guzowski I agree.
Is this 1.1.?
were is the craft file????????/
please. tell me all your mods °^°
super tylko pokaż jak budujesz
Kerbal Stuff shutdown so you need to put it on a new website.
can we get a craft download? lol
lol, this is the Spice Launch System mod made by Macollo himself for RSS
lol lol lol it's very funny but me I want the rocket,
his mod I do not care
125 tons to orbit. this rocket is glorious. this is what is going to take us to mars. not spacex. (although they got a good shot too.)
Saturn V has 140 tons to LEO :).

SpaceX's rocket will take 236 tons to orbit.
+wiktor guzowski have you seen the payload bay of the SLS? its over 3 feet in diameter. you could fit a small 3 story house inside of it.
unknown cuyler What kind of house is 3 feet in diameter?
>Spice Launch System
Dat mistake
Spice Launch System is a mod. The name is correct.
I wonder if anyone from NASA has ever played this game
Build the largest rocket you can please.
Kerbal Stuff is DED
no epic music poop
