    Appreciate this! With all the variances in filter options (hidden or otherwise), etc. a complete tuning video for INAV on a 7" quad could be great for the community..... but this is also a reason to join your Patreon.

  • @yuriy77

    This video just demonstrated how good betaflight is in terms of tuning process and how much effort and thought was put in it (rpm filter, sliders, filter setup to name some), and archaic approach of inav.
    Not saying inav is bad or anything, but this video made an impression - one step forward, 3 steps back.

    Great video! Trying out INAV made me appreciate all the work thats been done on betaflight like resource mapping, user friendly pid/filter tuning, flight performance, not bouncing on landing etc. Would love to see flight differences of a tuned bf vs inav setup 😮

    One thing to note for those coming to iNav from betaflight, is that rescue mode, aka return to home, may not be available for many people, as iNav requires a compass for any navigation features to work on a quad. This poses a problem as most BNF quads with a gps do not also have a compass.

    • @uavtech
      @uavtech  Год назад

      i don't think that is accurate. let me check.

    • @Drieeedger
      @Drieeedger Год назад +1

      @@uavtechI wish it were inaccurate, but it is not. There is an open, outstanding issue (#4999) on the project for years now regarding this, and iNav developers do not wish to add an 'inferior' and 'pointless' RTH mode to work without a compass. They specifically refer to the Betaflight implementation as 'rubbish' and refuse to take a step backwards. Its sad really, as most of gps in my fleet are bn220's that serve me well for basic rth in beatflight, as well as rth in iNav on the fixed wing configuration.

      @senseisecurityschool9337 11 месяцев назад

      On the other hand, INAV return to home works much, much better. You can get where you're going a lot better if you know which way you're heading. The compass tells you which way you're heading.

    • @senseisecurityschool9337
      @senseisecurityschool9337 11 месяцев назад

      That is something to note - and you can swap out your old GPS for a new, better, $10 M9 GPS that comes with a compass.

    Already sent to my INAV user friends. I would like to make a suggestion, what about a spreadsheet that help this conversion? I have a 10" that comes tuned from factory. I have the betaflight dump and would be nice to have a way to automate the conversion. I understand it is not a 1:1 but would be a better starting point as INAV's defaults won't work well for large quad like that. Thanks in advance.

    • @senseisecurityschool9337
      @senseisecurityschool9337 11 месяцев назад

      The big overall difference is right in the name - navigation. INAV is the way to go if you want to fly TO somewhere. You want to fly over this house and take video, and then go over there. Heck, if you want to, you can put the radio down, go inside and let INAV fly the preprogrammed mission to the locations you specified. Most people don't go that far, but you could.
      Betaflight is more focused on aerobatics, "flippity floppities". Betaflight if you are mainly interested in doing flips and stuff, not going anywhere.

    I faced with some problems when I tried to switch to inav:
    - There is no dynamic resource remapping. To remap resource you have to build custom firmware
    - Devs are not willing to add additional new targets even manufacture might want to. So some manufacturers just build custom firmware.
    - It's possible to arm from radio in configuration by accident, which is not safe for me.
    - inav devs complain about SpeedyBeeF405 v3 stack (FC+ESC) and don't want to add support dshot, so only multishot is supported and the ESC from the stack supports only dshot.
    So, maybe inav is good for navigation, but all these cons are stop factors from using inav

      also I couldn't find any asnwer how to migrate actual rates to inav rates.

    • @uavtech
      @uavtech  Год назад +1

      There is a motor remapping tool in 6.1.1.
      You can also go old school in the CLI and use the RESOURCE command.
      I don't think there is a direct converstion for rates.

      If you can find one single case where a manufacturer put in a feature request, with the very well documented procedures, and got turned down, I'd love to see it.
      If someone half asked for something, but didn't actually specify what they wanted, then completely ignored multiple requests for clarification, then yeah it would be impossible to fulfill whatever they were thinking they wanted, but refused to actually tell us.
      It's not that we don't WANT to rewire the SpeedyBee F405V3 to fix the board layout bugs. It's just that once you produce a printed circuit board, it's too late to redesign the circuit. We can't fix their hardware mistakes after the hardware has been manufactured.
      I have no idea what "you can accidentally arm" is supposed to mean, but are you the same person who was asking for a custom version with absolutely of the many safety checks removed, the checks that prevent arming when it would be unsafe?

    Sassy observation: how did you manage to talk about filters for 12 minutes when there's so much more to talk about and explore with iNAV? I realize filters are what you are passionate about, but c'mon they are not the be all and end all of tuning and iNAV offers so much more. I'll be looking for a 2nd installment of this video, covering the other stuff that iNAV has to offer.

      INAV dev here. No we don't say you need to calibrate for every flight.
      I calibrate mine when I install a new GPS/compass. Unless I forget to do it.
      If you travel to a new location, such as going up to Denver at 5,000 feet elevation from the coast, you may get better precision if you calibrate for the new environment. It's totally unnecessary to calibrate for every flight.
