This happened to my dad. Not the hammer toe but he damn near took his big toe off with a chainsaw and they had to put a pin through it like the vid. Before they took it out a while later he actually broke a piece of the pin off in his toe and it’s still there today. He says if moves his toe just right the pin will get stuck on his bone in his toe preventing him from moving his toe at all and he has to manually stretch his toe out to get it unstuck.
