It's a plug in Hybrid. Plug-in is not required, but is recommend for maximum efficiency.
you kind of need to plug it in occasionally as the battery will only recharge it self half way. to get a full battery you need to plug it in.

Why are you driving a hybrid car without using the electric engine...? People don't buy a hybrid for that purpose. Might as well buy a petrol BMW instead...
No, in the Netherlands you buy this car for the costs per month because hybrid cars and electric cars are less less less costs per month for a fast car.
i have this same car and i only ever use hybrid mode when i am low on petrol or stuck in traffic. most of the times i leave it on auto mode and it switches between hybrid and petrol brilliantly.
i have a hybrid 335i and the electric motor does assist whilst cruising or accellerating. and at low speeds takes fully over the ice engine. But this guy needs to take it to germany and not eindhoven !

530e does… same engine/drive train but obviously bigger body shape & footprint :)
@twin scroll turbo B47 Have since found out you can get f30s with ambient lighting both OEM (usually individual spec) & retrofit! Who would have thought :)
